Nothing wrong with the Mail sports pages, no hint of politics or any other issues not related to sport, just good quality writing like the article about Kone.
I think this is the case with a lot of papers. I think the Times is a rubbish paper but they've got Michael Atherton as their cricket correspondent and he's one of the finest writers around. Would never read anything published by the S*n though, no matter how good the writing is
That's just not true - of the Mail or any paper (especially those with incendiary columnists). There will always be political undertones - sport and politics go hand in hand whether people like it or not.
I agree that most often Sports pages in most papers are usually free of political opinion and most sports reporters hate it when there is 'a story' (England/Gazza/LGBTQ) that means the usual coke-fuelled, drunken hypocrites keen to suck up to their appalling owners or editors get to stick their oar in.
I think we have Kone for this season, but even the most optimistic fan must expect suitors to be lining up to buy him if we don't go up (and let's face it - even if we do!).
I am enjoying every moment as if time is running out, but there is that sneaking suspicion that somehow this season is going to be magical enough for him to want to stay in the Champo with us next term. Stranger things have happened!
Agree with this...I think if we go up or get close and he scores a hatful both King Kone and MB will have proved their worth and would garner more unwelcome attention. Then is the time to worry...I doubt our present purple period (long may it last!) is necessarily going to get anyone above us reaching for their pocketbooks. And as @Shev points out...if we do get up, there is something to be said for staying and enjoying the Champ with your 'band of brothers'!
(Yes, I realise that everyone and everything has it's price.)
For sure - and even if we can't get promoted he must be worth a lot even for the goalscorer's premium. If you think that Al-Hamadi went straight to the Champo for what was rumoured to be a decent fee having scored 23 in 42 league games at League Two level, Kone would attract serious interest and money given he is on a similar pace at L1 level!

“There’s no doubt this club is going in an exciting direction — and I think in one or two years it could be unrecognisable,” Grimmer said.
Bittersweet words
For some reason the term "waifs and strays" makes me laugh particularly when referring to Bayo!
The irony of the Daily Mail lauding someone of Kone's backstory is next level.
Dont worry next week they'll be warning their terrified readers he might be moving into their street...
I'm not fully convinced that those who buy the Daily Mail actually know how to read it

Like people reading Playboy for the articles!
I'd say it's especially the case in football at the moment, what with the whole Man City case.
The only 'political undertones' in the Kone article are the ones made up by Gasroomers.
I don't mean in every article, but there's no such thing as a politics-free sports section. That's not necessarily a good or bad thing.
I do remember one gasroomer going nuts because people had asked who Kone was with when introduced to the crowd.

The BFP sports pages almost caused a diplomatic crisis when they wrote that Ukraine had invaded Russia...
Though I voted for Bez's sublime free kick as goal of the round, I thought King Kone's goal was better.
I find Mr Ritchings style of saying how a team or player "would go on to (do whatever...) almost as bizarre as the constant spelz errorings.
I find a lot of their writing just very unnatural
There's none more political than Feargal Sharkey.
That’s very good.

If we can get up a division and he starts scoring there, the transfer fee would be a case of how many millions, wouldn't it.
Mustn't get carried away though
Depends if he has a specific release clause in his contract setting out the transfer fee.
Yeah, utterly ludicrous, What was all that shite about Carsley and the anthem, and the dark day when Tuchel was appointed.
The media behaved utterly embarrassingly at Tuchel's first press conference
Yeah, no politics here. Not only a foreigner, a GERMAN!
