Call me a cynic, but I don’t think Chris Forino hired a new agent to get a few more quid out of the Couhigs.
I always expect Taff to leave, and he hasn’t yet.
Low is the wildcard. No idea about his contract situation, but he’s the most likely to attract transfer attention, which we can’t really turn our nose up at.
This takes first prize as the most pessimistic, speculative and nonsensical summary I have read since someone predicted in January that we would be in the National League in two years.
Think the upshot of that is simply if everything goes the worst it possibly could, we lose all our best players and don't replace any of them we'll not be in a very good place. Whilst not adding much to the debate it's also highly unlikely and it surely applies to all of our rivals as much as it does to us.
@glasshalffull As Mark Twain once said: “The man who is a pessimist before 48 knows too much; if he is an optimist after it he knows too little.”
I'll begrudgingly accept your award for the pessimism and speculation but in what way is anything I wrote nonsensical? All of those things could quite easily happen. There's nowt fanciful there.
@Blue_since_1990 Oh I knew this was the nickname for me right from the start. Apologies for bringing you down, but setting a realistic expectation can also be a positive. I'd like to think those who know me personally would agree that I can sometimes be surprisingly full of gaiety, possess an irreverent sense of humour and am a fantastical dreamer despite my steadfast curmudgeonly pragmatism.
Very good @glasshalfempty - just a light hearted response from me really. We all approach things from different angles but your input is appreciated and adds balance.
Looks like it could be a chap called Dan Rice - ‘Everton’s Head of Emerging Talent, Dan Rice, who only joined the club last year from Southampton, is to leave the toffees at the end of the season’
I think that Rob is going to really go for it next season backed by our Georgian investor. I can see both Joe Low and Chris Forino being offered very good 2 year deals with a view to keeping them but with the guarantee that if a bigger club of their liking comes in for them, then we will not stand in their way.
As for other positions, Matt will be given the backing to bring in additional permanent signings and loan players to underpin the push for the Championship. Offers will be made for both Nigel Lonwijk and Dale Taylor which will include a decent sell on percentage for their current clubs.
I predict exciting times ahead which will also include ground improvements and a new training ground development at Little Marlow and further investment in AP and a new academy structure.
Well I may as well take the extreme optimistic view for next season. 👍
Bearing in mind Everton's performances over the last three seasons compared to the huge transfer fees paid out, I'm surprised "the talent spotter" still has a job!
Surely you are forgetting the billions of Georgian Lari we'll be able to squander on player wages, dugouts, carpets and (who knows) maybe even the Frank Adams roof again?
Either the department is expanding and he'll have a place, or this Everton chap is a direct replacement. I think the current bloke has done extremely well, so hopefully it is the former.

When you say "thick", we might not have a say with 2 out of contract and Longwijk not our player.
Low we assume is under contract, but it's 6 months on from us turning a bid down. So our power is reducing with him.
So to summarise, our best starting XI for next season might look like:
GK: A.N. Other
Back Four: Grimmer, any 2 from 3 of Low, Taff and Forino, plus A.N. Other at left back
Midfield: Scowen, Butcher, Leahy (+ A.N. Other as cover)
Front 3: Lubala, Kone, Sadlier (with McCleary and Wheeler used mainly as subs)
MB will need to keep his mobile phone fully charged ...

Have you ever tried optimism? It’s quite a nice feeling you know.

It certainly won’t help to sell season tickets 🤦
According to the Sun we are about to appoint a ‘Key talent spotter’ from Everton
Do you have an URL for that story?
According to The Sun, the Truss / Kwarteng budget would make ‘millions of Brits better off within weeks’.
I don’t as it’s on Patreon but journalist Alan Nixon posted the headline on his Twitter account @reluctantnicko
I wonder if this is to do with the launching of an academy.

Wonder if we'll bring Darren Currie back to link up with him?
Any chance? Probably naan

From what I’ve heard, this is a much more likely scenario than any of us could have anticipated twelve months ago.
Nonsensical because:
1) All or most of the players you have listed as likely to depart could stay.
2) All or most of the loanees we have could return or we could sign different loanees who might be an upgrade in quality.
3) GMac and Vokes may not retire and could still be with us next season.
4) Two keepers? We already have two.
A RB? See above (Grimmer, McCarthy).
Two LBs? We have Vincent Young who can also play RB.
Four CBs? Even if your forecast about the players you think will leave is correct, Grimmer and McCarthy are both competent in that position.
Two wingers? What about Sadlier, Hanlan and Lubala who can all play in that position?
Are you seriously suggesting that we might need to sign more than a dozen new players and how do you know that our wage bill will be reduced?
Don't think we're allowed to splurge even if we have found the money but if someone like Vokes or Taff goes that could free some space up.
Going to stick with the optimism and say it's all good opportunities at the moment.
Bearing in mind Everton's performances over the last three seasons compared to the huge transfer fees paid out, I'm surprised "the talent spotter" still has a job!
Yeah we can't just Pilau him to run the transfer policy
It depends if we plan to play a tikka-taka style.
Perhaps he will bring Darren Currie back?
Ask Su, she would know.
Surely you are forgetting the billions of Georgian Lari we'll be able to squander on player wages, dugouts, carpets and (who knows) maybe even the Frank Adams roof again?
I've always rated that chapati-pswich as well
Could he bhaji-s way into contention?

So what happens to the person Bloomfield brought in as Head of Recruitment, can’t remember his name?
Either the department is expanding and he'll have a place, or this Everton chap is a direct replacement. I think the current bloke has done extremely well, so hopefully it is the former.
