As I've mentioned before I've seen many claims since GA days that we see losing fans in droves. I wondered if anyone knew if our average is down this season.
Midweek games however might be effected by the streaming service, in my own experience now that I’ve tried it it is a little tempting not to drive an hour down and back but instead break out the tea and biscuits and listen to Phil and jj.
It would be interesting to see how many fans are watching the games on Wanderers TV and does it compensate for what appears to be smaller crowds, especially midweek at home. However I am not certain I’ve ever seen the club release that information. Too financially sensitive?
The problem is most midweek games from postponements seem to fall in January or February when it's either freezing cold wet or both. As I get older I find it harder to sit in the freezing cold for 2 hours plus. On a Saturday it doesn't seem so bad in the afternoon. The fact I can watch at home on a Tuesday is a godsend plus the club gets an extra tenner out of me.
Live, under the under the lights, cold, mid week - proper footie, why we support our (local*) club not Man U on the tele every five minutes. Worlds gone soft.
*I live over an hour away these days, it’s a much easier drive home than on a Saturday.
I agree @eric_plant that it was a poor turnout and they probably counted ST holders not there, who may or may not have coughed up a tenner and been watching at home, but not sure with it being a rescheduled Tuesday night game on a cold wet night that I agree it illustrates we are shipping fans necessarily. I will be interested to find out what the average is at the end of the season and how it compares.
The Portsmouth and Charlton numbers will be much higher I’d have thought. Portsmouth are bound to sell out the away end, and so will Charlton if they still need a result by then.
@railwaysteve may have the home numbers only in his spreadsheets for the last few seasons. Appreciate it may take a little time to get the home only averages but wonder if that's available? No problems if not!
Certainly some changes possible to my figures but even if both games added a further 1000 each to the attendance that would only add a further 87 to our average, taking it up to 5114.
Our two highest gates this season when the away end all but sold out where 7073(Reading - 1849) and 6781(Oxford - 1752), both local games.
Just look at that playing surface compared to the pig pen we were playing in last Tuesday. While we get a lot of things wrong, we know how to maintain and look after our pitch!
Yep, block C row G seat 60 (next to the pillar so there is a bit of extra room + stand up in the back row when you feel like it & a shelf behind for the bovril. Cue ‘the view is better in the Frank Adams’ (half way to Handy across!)🙄
I am over 6’ the leg room is just fine, as per my pic the bit of the pitch you can’t fully see is through the ‘dug outs’ (so what). But, you can hear the bench instructions, smell the cut grass and stand on the rail right next to the action when it gets tense / tasty.
With poor attendances you can even change ends at half time for some Loakes Park nostalgia.
Well bugger me @perfidious_albion. We have been sat next to each other all these years and I never knew it. We have block C row G seats 61, 62 & 63 and have done for donkeys years. I normally have the seat the other side of the pillar. Started out when I had arthritic knees & needed the extra leg room as I couldn't bend my legs as much. Plus also I like the facility to stand as watching the game of footie for so long I can almost predict what's going to happen and tended to stand up before those behind me so they missed the goal! See you later. 😊

I don’t see much difference myself on Saturdays.

Having got in the habit of doing this for away games these days, I can definitely understand more distant fans taking this approach.
Midweek games can feel a strange sense of duty from a few miles away, let alone having to make a proper effort to get there.

Does that look over a 3rd full to you?
If anything, the terrace was even more sparsely populated and there was obviously hardly anyone in the away end
I'm not sure that there were many more than 2,000 in the ground on tuesday. I'm almost convinced there weren't 3,400

We have averaged 4860 over the 17 games we have had so far in League One.
We have the following to go and the attendances should be around
Sat - Barnsley 5000
Tue - Wigan 4000
Sat - Northampton 5000
Fri - Portsmouth 7000
Wed - Derby 6500
Sat - Charlton 5500
Add all that up and we get to an average of 5027. Last season was 5753.
@wwfcblue thanks for that. Gulp. We need the chairlift and the new road pronto.
This should cover it....

Portsmouth last season was 6306 on a Sunday
Charlton last season was 6139 on a Saturday

Home Crowd Averages
22/23 - 4790
23/24 - 4187 (17 Games)
Currently home crowds are down by around 12.6% but I suspect with the games we have left it will improve to around 12% by the end of the season.
Is that your own photo? If so I think we must sit virtually next to each other.

Sit? There's no leg room...we all stand and look at the real fans in the FA. 😊
(when there are any, of course)
We used to win awards for our pitch. Then Wasps happened.
Good to see it's back to being a strength again.

It’s the one stand I haven’t watched a game in - the view isn’t actually that bad based on your photo!
It's alright if you stand on the back row.
If you like sitting and are over 5ft 5, or you like to see the whole pitch, not so nice.

@EwanHoosaami my attendance is somewhat erratic due to lots of family commitments, won’t be at Barnsley game sadly😕
They must have sold your seat or you have passed it on to someone else?
