They’ve always had support massively disproportionate to their league status. Something to do with half price season tickets, I seem to recall.
A message for our owners?
Almost certainly not as simple as that. And given that, on the face of it (I’ve not been to Adam’s Park for four seasons), we have very few Asian supporters despite High Wycombe having (reportedly) the second or third largest Asian population (in percentage terms) in the country.
I may have read/listened to the wrong sources and be totally misguided in that respect but it would be interesting to know if Bradford have been more successful in appealing to Asian folk.
I think there were initiatives locally a few years ago to encourage a more diverse supporter base but I’ve not been aware of anything more recently.
It was interesting and most encouraging to see that the home support yesterday was up by around 20% (?) compared with the match against Peterborough.
The good times are back, it seems, and long may it continue.
Apart from Andy Cook apparently being suspended for next Wednesday’s match - are we sure about that, given this is not a league match - they lost their goalkeeper to Carlisle last month.
Sounds encouraging. I didn’t know for sure if it was in the EFL trophy. Only fear would be the unlikely possibility that he was able to serve the suspension in a league game and I’m too tired now to check the intervening results when, in any case, his absence could have been for other reasons.
Was it you that made the original comment about Cook’s suspension? I couldn’t find it subsequently. Definitely not on this thread.
I apologise to you and all downthumbers for the enormous length of the article by Jason Mckeown for which I posted a link at 12.45.
I personally thought it included some fascinating insights into the current world of Bradford City - insights which tell me that we will have to be at the peak of competitiveness on a pitch described in the article as having recently been a quagmire and (by my Wimbledon mate) as grassless. They’ve just had a run of clean sheets and rely very much on catching pressing teams on the break. I don’t think there’ll be much pretty football.
There will be over 20,000 home fans roaring Bradford on - a twelfth man, in effect - and it’s going to be mighty tough.
I’m pretty sure I know who it was. If only people who mark others down because they don’t like the cut of their jib (or whatever) would just occasionally deign to support their anonymous disapproval of what’s been said with a counter argument it would make a lot more sense.
But at the end of the day, life’s too short (and I say that with mixed emotions !)
It would seem Bradford have a goalkeeper issue for the game on Wednesday night.
They sold their first choice keeper to Carlisle in the transfer window.
The replacement is cup tied in the EFL Trophy having already played for Charlton on 21st November in the same competition.
The back up keeper is a player-coach and has not played a league game for nearly three years.
They do have a just turned 20 youth keeper but he's never played in any senior competition.
As discussed the focal point of their attack is suspended too (Andy Cook) who scored 31 goals last season and has 15 this season. They do have midfielder Jake Young back from his Swindon loan, he scored 16 goals for Swindon before his recall and has not scored for three months.
The Bradford pitch is very poor and if it rains it will be very difficult to play it on the floor.
Thanks for this information, really interesting. Incidentally, according to my weather app there’s a 90 per cent chance of rain in Bradford on Wednesday.
I do try to but I reckon my comments are usually pretty innocuous and I always try to be thoughtful and constructive, never personal unless in jest, and it baffles me that I cannot say anything without at least one disapproving response.
Serious health issues prevent me from participating in the vast majority of activities, social and physical, that I used to enjoy so the Gasroom is very important to me and gives me the chance to continue to interact on a daily basis with so many people who share the same passion.
@micra Your weather forecasting is going to come in useful on the day. There’s a big lump of blue on the weather chart for the week ahead, which looks to be sailing right over Yorkshire on Wednesday.
As for their keeper problems, I’ve been keeping my eyes on “Ceefax”, in case Bradford put out a late plea for an out-of-contract goalie who’s not cup tied...! 🤡
That’s really cheered me up. Don’t know why I’m sobbing!
Just looked at a couple of forecasts. Looks like a good few hours of heavy rain on Wednesday morning in Bradford. Let’s hope not of quagmire proportions.
Tbh, I thought it was just a given that if you mention thumbs down you get them, I have jokingly done this myself in the past but havnt meant anything by it. Like @eric_plant said, don't worry about it and let it get to you as most are probably in jest anyway. You keep going @micra, your doing fine.

I see that Bradford had 16,600 or so watching them yesterday against Sutton.
Great support.

It was a self-addressed comment you dumb downthumber ! Self-deprecation.
Self-deprecation society
Bradford’s recent improvement mirrors our own. Beware.

As Andy Cook was sent off in their QF match, I would assume he's suspended for the semi final. Don't know for sure though.

NURSE !!
League suspensions don't apply in the pizza trophy, so I'm assuming the same is true vice versa.
Cheers @flymofrank.

It wasn't me!

I think you'd enjoy it a lot more here of you just ignored them, they really don't mean a thing

Maybe Doc should just get rid of them. It's really not worth getting upset about
I value your contribution @micra usually constructive now and again a tangential take on things.
Don’t ever change, after all who else could be such a diligent officer of the punctuation police!
Here here. You carry on @micra, the Gasroom wouldn’t be the same without your weather updates or your late night musings.
On another forum I’m on individuals can select whether or not they want to see thumbs which seems to work quite well.

My experience.
Thumbs up:
-Somebody liked/agreed with my post
Thumbs down:
-Somebody disliked/disagreed with my post
-Use of rude words
-Making fun of
Bargepoleanother poster-failure to detect irony
-mentioning religion
-saying something positive about the Middle East
-saying something negative but factual about the UK
-Liking Ainsworth too much
-Making fun of Ainsworth
-Correctly naming a Hollywood actor
-I could go on
Conclusion:
Cherish the thumbs up and take the thumbs down with a pinch of salt.
Thanks for the kind words, everyone.

Hopefully the Ceefax keeper is the antithesis of Essandoh and scores a late worldie O.G
On your latter point I see that their goalkeeper coach has played in all 5 ties in this competition so he’s not without recent first team experience.

I've done myself there havnt I !
Exactly right with your reasoning.
I thought it was basic gasroom knowledge.
Let’s hope he’s not Jimmy Glass!
Team for the Bradford game:-
Max
Grimmer, Low, Taf, Kane VY,
Potts Scowen Taylor
GMac Kone Sadlier
That’d be my pick.
Forecast for tomorrow looking even worse than it looked yesterday. Grimmer, in fact !
Kone will be more familiar than anyone tomorrow with the kind of playing surface it looks like being.
