If I remember correctly, something not dissimilar was keeping Ainsworth in place during that ill-fated 2013/14, WWST were reportedly negotiating selling to someone doing little more than kicking our metaphorical tyres. Another former contributor to this forum used the term "dodge pot" for the prospective buyer.
By the time that deal was completely off the table 1) it made little sense sacking Ainsworth with barely a few games left, 2) we didn't have a pot to piss in so couldn't pay him off anyway.
Dean Morgan was a bad apple, he never tracked back and it was rumoured that he was putting bad ideas into the heads of Antony Stewart among others. He also bad mouthed the club at the end of his contract.
Imagine the horror of being owned by a consortium that ensures we get the Cowleys for an extended period? Good job those subscription season tickets are cancellable at any time.
Personally I found him pretty odious. Spent more time sulking and berating his team mates while standing offside than he did anything else. Like Leon Knight with less goal threat.
When we played Leyton Orient in the summer, I thought D Taylor played really well partnering Vokes upfront. If Vokes is the lone striker, why not see if Taylor can play just behind him?
Except he scored more goals and more goals per game
Maybe his xG was lower?
I was in the family stand during Dean's spell at the club. He would without fail stay to sign every autograph being asked for long after his team mates had left the pitch
I will allow Lyle Taylor all the attitude he wants if he bangs in a goal, or has a shot. A player with arrogant swagger when they are scoring goals gives them an edge. A whinger moaning at the world when they are contributing nothing is less of an attractive addition.
If people dislike Lyle Taylor for whining to the ref then said people must bloody hate 90% of the footballers who have worn the quarters! Thierry Henry use to spend the entire game in the refs ear. So did Alan Shearer. It's common and it often gets you decisions, I don't have the slightest problem with it. I see Lyle edging out Dale over the coming weeks and that will be a good thing.
Speaking of centre forwards we could've been playing now - let's not forget Ali Al-Hamadi who literally would've been our player if Gareth Ainsworth, in one of his last decisions at the club, hadn't decided that Tjay De Barr was a better option to keep. When we talk about Matt Bloomfield inheriting a squad that was flying, let's not forget he inherited a squad that had just lost Mehmeti and Al-Hamadi. And for those who are calling for Gareth to be brought back - some of his decision-making on personnel could also be called into question (c.f. Josh Parker).
How we could do with a Scott Mcgleish, Stuart Beavon or Marcello Trotta. Those guys , particularly Mcgleish made scoring goals look easy. Just give them the ball and they’d do the rest.
Surely there’s a 2024 version of Mcgleish out there somewhere.
The Georgian tech bro, obviously. I'm not sure on the exact details but I'm guessing that he somehow met the Couhigs when he was buying studying for his MBA at Harvard. They told him they had a 'Wrexham-style' soccer team to sell in Outer London and he said he'd take it on the condition that the Cowleys became the managers as their 50% win rate at Lincoln was amongst the highest in European football. That and he had a shitload of money to launder wanted to diversify his business interests. Rob's going to announce this after the game on Monday and do a mic-drop just as the fireworks kick in.
Went to watch Hitchin Town v Berkhamsted today at Top Field. Berkhamsted have been on an appalling run after promotion last season to the Southern League Premier Central division. Their last & only win was 2-1 over Nuneaton Borough on the first day of the season (Aug 5th).
Since then they have gone 22 games without a win. Their 2 most recent results were 0-6 & 0-4, culminating in the manager resigning last week.
Hitchin are in the top half of the table so a home win was almost inevitable. After Hitchin took the lead on 29 minutes with a great strike into the top corner it appeared over for Berkhamsted. However, they showed great character and renewed energy after the break and equalised on the hour. Unbelievably the visitors took the lead with just over 10 minutes to go and added a third in injury time following a catastrophic mistake by former Wanderer Charlie Horlock.
So the manager Steve Heath left this week & Berkhamsted recorded their first win in 23 games and first away win of the season. It’s amazing what can happen under such circumstances. Football can sometimes be brutal but that is the nature of the beast.

Actually, wasn’t Dean Morgan one of your favourite players? Maybe you have stropblindness.
Dean Morgan was the main reason to turn up to watch Wycombe for a very long time
Exceptional talent
What we would give for a Dean Morgan to lead the line now.

Putting bad ideas into heads?
Fucking hell

He could put the ball in the net though. He certainly had his problems but when he was on it he was really good.

And he was our best player by miles
They both had a 1 in 4 strike rate.
My team to beat Bristol Rovers would be ;-
Max
Grimmer - Taf - Forino - Leahy.
Potts - Scowen.
McCleary - Phillips.
Vokes - D. Taylor.
Probably the most skillful player excluding loans that we've ever had. However his terrible attitude and disclipine nullified all his talent.

Do we not have to score to win or are we relying on O.G's?
What would we give for a Keith Scott or Steve Thompson? Players who would give blood for the cause.
I don't even think you need to go that far back. Even the playoff winning and losing teams of late were miles ahead of this bunch.
You have to pick a team from the players we have.

Clearly there’s rumours about the Cowleys but surely they haven’t got the money. Who are the consortium behind them?

Fair points @aloysius
We got promoted to the championship with Josh Parker in the squad

So very surprising that ‘some’ of his signings didn’t work out having been manager for ten years.
