If I remember correctly, it was our fault that Peterborough only got £5M. Something to do with PPG and random excel formulas prevented the Posh from claiming their rightful promotion and then selling Toney for £100M once they'd reached the Champions League!
Also Toney was 23 years old and on penalties all season - and he got a lot of them in his last few years from memory. I seem to remember him starting pretty much every game.
Kone is 21 years old. He ‘only’ started eighteen from 24 so far. Was subbed off on 60 mins in a handful of those.
Add some inflation. Consider the fact we’re in an automatic promotion spot. It’s disruptive to sell in January.
Yeah okay he’s got less ‘track record’, but United spent £80m on a teenage centre back in summer.
Arrogantly, it’s £5m or more for me. The more I think about it, the more I think he’s the best young striker I’ve seen since Toney at this level. The only one that got close to Toney was Ross Stewart and he was much older, injury prone and still went for nearly £10m!!
I think it's 3 or 4 million minimum for Kone, seeing what others have gone for in the past. But that should be a starting point, and see if we can drive up from there
Sell Kone for 5m, give half to MB as a bonus and a precursor to his new shiny extension.
Whatever happens with MB, I feel like he should not leave Wycombe, a club he has given most of his adult life to, without his family being financially set up for life.
Surely, our new moneyball obsessed evil controllers would have put a decent clause in Kone's contract extension even if they don't want promotion or our present manager?
(Though I do think comparing him with Ivan Toney is a bit premature myself)
Comparing the lad with Ivan Toney is an absolute joke. Kone is 21 and still learning. Richard has a bright future but there are many things in his game that need improvement at this stage of his development.
The season Ivan Toney turned 21, he scored 14 goals in 43 games across two loan spells at league one level - 6 in 19 for a poor Shrewsbury side in the first half of the season and then 6 in 15 for a good Scunthorpe side in the second half of the season in the league, plus a goal in the EFL trophy and a goal in the play offs. He scored a goal every 230 minutes that season, across all competitions.
The season Richard Kone turned 21 (he turned 21 in July so I am counting this season) he has scored 16 goals in 33 games across all competitions - 13 in the league, 1 in the FA Cup and 2 in the EFL cup. He is scoring a goal every 120 minutes or so across all competitions.
We have no idea what the future might hold for Richard, but at this stage, he is actually a better player (statistically) than Ivan Toney was at the same age.
In fact, the last season that Ivan Toney played for Peterborough before his move to Brentford, he turned 24, and scored 26 in 39 in all competitions. His minutes per goal was 127 (so slightly worse than Kone this season), but he did actually only score 2 penalties in those 26 (one of which was against us) compared to the 3 Kone already has this season. Either way, Kone's stats are comparable - not saying his all round game is, but the stats are.
Toney was bought by a premier league club at 19. He was on a different level from Kone.
We mustn't overrate players., but instead be very happy Kone has improved immensely from when he arrived, very raw, not great at holding it, controlling it, simple passes etc, to what he's become now.
I'm not suggesting that they are the same player. I have simply pointed out that statistically, Toney at 21 was worse than Kone is now, and even Toney's best league one season is similar to the output Kone is producing this season, in terms of goals. I don't think there is anything that shows that a 21 year old Ivan Toney is a different level to a 21 year old Richard Kone at all. Toney's development through the years was phenomenal and it will be incredibly impressive if Kone can match that, of course. In their age 20 seasons, for example, Toney scored 1 in 15 in league one (788 minutes) whilst Kone scored 3 in 17 (643 minutes). I don't think the young Ivan Toney was really as good as you think.
@manchesterchairboy , maybe I owe you an apology as I didn’t realise that you and others were comparing Kone to a young 21 year old Toney. I wrongly assumed Richard was being compared to the present day Ivan Toney. 👍
Oh yeah that is absolutely no comparison! Toney's growth from ~22-26 was incredible - even when he was at Peterborough I never would've guessed he would score 20 goals in a PL season and play for England. Let's hope Richard can grow like that too!

That's your mistake, he not going to a Championship side. It's straight to a Premier League side for our "King Richard".
Everton need someone who can score a goal!
Depends on the release clause figure in his contract.
Initial fee for AAH was around 1m, but I'm sure there were add-ons
Assuming he has one!
(He will - he signed an extension)
Also Ivan Toney from 3rd division Posh to 2nd division Brentford for £5m + add-ons.
This one is the benchmark we should be waiting for with Kone IMO. He has the potential to be just as good as Toney.
We need to get him to sign another extension. I think he only triggered a further year last time?
honestly, if Al Hamadi went for a million then Kone is nearer 10 than 5

When Kone goes for 400k because we put that clause in his deal, I will lead the gnashing on here.

For 2.5 million he can probably get an extension that will have his house almost in Bucks
It will be £100k plus add ons when he makes his debut for England. Just like the Matt Phillips sale.
Haha, yes and then Phillips went and played for Scotland!

Yep, it's a strange comparison in all ways.
Will be delighted if he emerges to become a premier league player, but I've seen people suggest he's already a "complete" championship striker!

Incomparable today as Kone is playing at a higher level...
Wonder if we would reinvest the Low money in Morley
Plymouth 😂
