I think you're talking about two different games here - the 4-1 was the FA trophy final v Runcorn in the previous season (imagine winning at Wembley in consecutive years nowadays, scoring 4 both times. No wonder everyone loves MON so much)
Ah yes. That would explain it. Actually for me the Runcorn game was the least euphoric of the O’Neill Wembley visits. Loved the Kiddie win and, obviously, the play-off win. The Runcorn game was good, but we were overwhelming favourites and was icing on the promotion cake.
My memory of the Kettering away game (the game that @arnos_grove was referring to) was that it was a foggy September day and as a result we had a slow, tedious journey. We got in the ground 10 minutes late, just as the fog was clearing - no big deal, normally, except that we were already 2-0 up...! Thankfully we didn't used to sit on our leads back then - we were in permanent attack mode.
We need 2/3 good quality recruits. We won’t be in trouble at the bottom and will probably finish circa 10th to 15th but our squad is pretty thin right now.
You’d start Luke there over Harvie? He had a good game today I thought. And if Blooms is determined to play our midfield three out of position they need more time to get used to it!
He was definitely at fault for a goal last week, the first and third goals today won’t make the training manual on tight marking. So three errors 2 games that led to goals.
He’s clearly be identified as a talent to improve the squad. He needs to show it.
Today’s first goal was a mess and wasn’t it Grimmer who got beat for the initial cross? The third was a rebound from a save which started when Jasper was beaten by his man. There’s room for improvement, but you’re being a bit harsh.
Without doubt a good few defensive issues to fix then.
But midfield is equally challenging.
I'm not sure we can play a 3 of Leahy, Scowen and Butcher.
The thinking from Bloomfield seems to be that Scowen is the most mobile, so he should be the furthest forward, whereas Leahy's strengths are playing from deeper.
Instead all it seems to do is reduce Scowen's influence and put him in positions that aren't his strength, like the two examples late on of the ball falling to him outside the box. One he for some reason tried a wildly optimistic half volley instead of crossing it in, and the second he was right to shoot, but arguably the last player in the attacking 6 you'd want it to fall to.
I wonder if the imbalance in the midfield is the reason we look sub-par in defence. I think we all saw the signings and wondered how that many players were going to fit together in those positions along with the wide players.
All the right notes but not necessarily in the right order.

Definitely 4-1
Is this some kind of weird gaslighting? Watch the highlights again - we’re good

Nonetheless, it was the one I was talking about 😉

Agreed. I was wrong. Apologies
I thought it was 4-2 against PNE if that’s what we’re talking about.
Cam humphreys corrrrr been close a few times, hopefully we get the final bits wrapped up
I hope you mean the centre half!
Which one?
Ipswich cm,AMC,lb proper talented boy

We don’t have a thin squad at all. It’s a very competitive squad. We don’t have enough quality in our starting eleven, that’s the concern.
Lovely stuff. Thanks for sharing
That’s a good point. And if Taff is out for any length of time we really need another body at CB. And a proper number 10.
We have a thin squad when you looked at the bench today . My opinion obviously. You seem think differently, that is your prerogative.
No Wheeler, Hanlan, Lubala and Hartridge hence why it was thinner. But I still think the bench looked pretty good even without them
If Taff is gonna have a Taff season we will need another centre half. Whether that is a first choice or cover will depend on budget.
I assume Leahy is cover left back and would be tempted to put him there next week. Harvie not showing his best defensive qualities yet.

I've got to be honest... I'm still a little unconvinced by Harvie

So where’s he gonna play and instead of who?

Would have to watch the 3rd goal again but surely Pattenden being turned like an absolute kipper was what set it in motion?
Pattenden was left for dead for the 3rd

I think Blooms sees Josh in the same role he filled for so long. Maybe he just doesn’t see LL as a ten and it’s a stopgap until we sign someone.
He probably needs to stop doing so, as their strengths are quite different and Scowen is superb at his more familiar role.
I think you probably have to play Scowen and one of Butcher/Leahy. With either a second striker or an attacking mid.
Which is tough because Leahy was a fairly decent priced signing on a 3 year deal, and Butcher hasn't dropped a league to be a squaddie either.
I wonder if the imbalance in the midfield is the reason we look sub-par in defence. I think we all saw the signings and wondered how that many players were going to fit together in those positions along with the wide players.
