I'd question the sentimental appointment at most clubs, but we're not most clubs. I think this gives us the best chance of keeping the promotion push going this season. Longer term, I have my apprehensions, but we'll see. It's such an alien time, but I'm mostly excited.
I (quite rightly in retrospect) took a bit of stick on one of the other threads for being a bit uncharitable to Gaz and Dobbo on the day they left. Matt’s appointment has entirely lifted the gloom for me.
I think my frustration was really because this team is really flying at the minute. We’re racking up performances and points like an automatic promotion side (24 from the last 10 matches) and I really do think we could achievable something incredible in the next couple of months. Therefore losing our current manager and the main candidate to be our next manager at a stroke seemed to be the worst possible news at the worst possible time
But the club have acted really decisively to get the show back on the road and have done a fantastic job this week. I can’t wait for Saturday.
I think frustration is understandable as one of a range of emotions, @Theatre_of_Chairs. One of the many reasons I want GA to do well at QPR is so that it was not all for nothing from our perspective, though of course if MB takes off with us we may be fine anyway.
I've cycled through the five stages of grief so many times in the last few days that I'm now dizzy. However, I'm also really quite excited about Blooms. We might play two up front! We might get shoelaces that stay tied! The possibilities are endless!
I had, on many occasions suggested to my son that MB could do with attending the same drama class as him. Matt's telegraphed dives always looked like something straight from a Carry On film scene. My dialogue in the terrace went thus; " Matt's got the ball, he's heading for goal, he's going to go down, he's going, he's going. He's down."
Differing recollections I guess, I always think of him going over unconvincingly, the ref of the week waving it away, then MB waving his arms in mock outrage.
But I’m sure we’ll have watched different games and no-one has the same memories of the small stuff in any case.
I think Samuel got a better percentage of fouls given than MB, but that was because a lot of the time Alex actually was being fouled. His actual diving was not much better than MB's.
Later on in his career I think you're spot on. Started trying a few more, and certainly no master.
Samuel was absolutely superb at buying free kicks. In fairness, he was utterly shunted around, as you might expect with his fairly lightish build for the role he played.
There's been a lot said this week about how far we have come under Gaz and how many generally decent and often legendary players we've had over the last decade, I was looking at some pictures yesterday that I took at a game under Peter Taylor and I don't recognise most of the players.
Waddock constantly raiding Aldershot who were a league below us for players.
Taylor, half down to Hayes summer ultimatum, having to dip into the bottom of the bargain barrel for players, family members and pals.
We truly are blessed with who Gareth and Dobbo brought to our club.
MB coming in has allayed fears about the whole atmosphere and "Wycombeised" mentality disappearing overnight to quite a high extent. The huge question is how much of the recruitment magic he can replicate. The Couhig intentions in the summer clearly will have a key say in that too.

and hand on heart I can see a similar personality in the current bunch
Oooh, which one?
Naughty @drcongo !
The omission of ‘t can have serious consequences.
Of course it could be that rebellious Jack Young !
If I were Bloomfield the first thing I'd do is ask how long my contract is for.
Hear, hear to this. Excellent post Eric and I just hope that the majority of fans are of the same opinion.
The ones I've spoken to and who have posted on here seem to be

I meant CAN'T of course. Although.....
The gasroom are.
That’s easy to answer: undisclosed.
I’m definitely very excited.

I hope they've all been taught how to dive like Blooms
Blooms was the master of ‘inviting the foul’.
For a good 18 months our tactic was to hoof it up for Bloomfield or Samuel to get fouled, allowing JJ to use his magic wand at a set piece.
It wasn’t always pretty but it was hard to play against.
good god, I hope they haven't, Mr Wycombe has many obvious merits, but a convincing command of the diver's art was never one of them.
True - if diving is acting (which it is), Blooms and Alex Samuel were daytime soap stars rather than giants of Hollywood.
He seemed to get plenty of his decisions in his favour 🤷

Keith Scotts dive against Bromsgrove in the FA trophy that gained us a penalty, is arguably one of the most outrageous seen in a Wanderers shirt.
Not how I remember it. He hardly ever won a free kick with his dives, he was terrible at it
I can't remember a worse one. Absolutely diabolical
Scotty confesses: "what I'll do is fall over...".

Scott Kashket's at Southend in 2019 was pretty funny, sound effects and all

Not that anyone needs much of a reminder of how far we've come since those days, but describing Bromsgrove as a "powerful" opponent took a 2nd listen!
