Can't remember the season but I remember the event. Got to the outskirts of Colchester, stopped for a pint in the local and heard the news then. Think I uttered the words "oh sphericals", downed my pint and drove back! 🙄
I did Accrington away last season and, despite losing, I really enjoyed it. Bizarre ground for a League 1 side. Awful pitch. Hilarious tiny bar opposite the ground. It’s charmingly shit.
My youngest son went to the match last night with two non-Wycombe supporting mates. They loved it and said the atmosphere was great! Were there really three drummers on show??!!
Mind you the other two lads questioned Vokesy's contribution, so far from fully 'Wycombised' yet.
I watched the game and am surprised where Accy are in the table. I thought their performance was that of a mid table side, a little toothless upfront but certainly better defensively and creatively than some of the sides surrounding them at the bottom:
Looking at the highlights again, that second goal is sneakily good - Freeman's perfectly weighted pass to Tjay under pressure, who does so well to set it into the path of GMac, with the nutmegged finish. Great stuff - for a team with a (less than just) reputation for being awful on the eye, we score so many beautiful goals!
This is what does my head in with oppo fans, I know I shouldn't let it get to me, but I do !
To pretty much all of them, 98% ? we are just a hoof it team... but we score so many quality goals, passing one touch football, team work, and long range efforts. Ah well, the haters just got to hate I guess
I have said it before, once you have a reputation in football it is so hard to lose it and the lazy cliches about how we play won’t go away until we start emulating vintage Barcelona. According to the label we are simply hoofball, physical, diving, cheating time wasters. I could write the script after every game we win: ‘You know what to expect from Wycombe and why would anyone want to watch that every week.’
I love hearing “why would anyone want to watch that every week” because I genuinely do love watching that every week. We’re a total joy to watch at our best. Every man on the pitch giving their max effort every game. I’d take that with a sprinkle of time-wasting every time over a side which doesn’t put in max effort.
After Derby a man next to the gates actually said 'How can you watch that every week'. I wasn't sure if he was being serious or was in on the joke we think it is.
Our reputation confuses and amuses me in equal measure. I mean, I can understand fans having a preconception of how we might play, but then seeing us and still coming out with the "wouldn't want to watch that every week" rubbish is often laughable. The reactions from the Derby fans I think were the most extreme version of that I've ever seen. We outplayed Derby for long spells and thoroughly deserved the win and yet a huge number of comments seemed to suggest we'd just got lucky and hoofed and time wasted our way to victory, despite the clear evidence to the contrary.

Good to see you @Commoner today. We've definitely met before down the years but good to put a face to a gasroom name haha
@micra 'There's only one Alfie Mawson' was sung loudly more than once
50 points. That's 'avoid relegation ' done.

Thank you @floyd
Indeed. Always good to meet fellow gasroomers!
brilliant performance, terrace was tropical and looking forward to Saturday.
enjoyed your middle of the night new threads 😂😂😂
Yes! I wasn’t 100% confident on that detail but am now.
Was that you in the Mexican wrestler get up?
Haha! Not me. I’m not that brave.
Our paths have crossed! I’ll say hello next time I see you at AP or away from home. We’ve got a mutual marathon runner friend residing in New York!
Accrington on a Tuesday night was on my bucket list. Now, I don't have to do it again :-)
To be fair, it's a nice ground, good atmosphere and the pies are only 3 quid. Good job it wasn't raining though.
The lad in the Mexican wrestler's mask is why Accrington away is up there as one of the best. There is nothing like it anywhere else in the world

It was like a drumming festival. I only counted two but may have been 9
Just watched the highlights, Josh's goal was incredible, what a strike! More of the same Saturday please...

Always had a soft spot for Accrington. Get the vibe of them being a club that's just happy to be here, punching well above their weight.
Bloody hell, I found an opposition fan with functioning eyes https://twitter.com/ASeed01/status/1625613255207952493
I think we had two drummers and Accrington had one so maybe that explains the three. Some of the time they were all drumming simultaneously.

I wonder if the false image puts potential fans in our area from coming to watch.
If so I am sure some clever people have already spotted marketing opportunities
It really doesn’t help the reputation when our home end fans sing ‘time wasting _______s, we know what we are’.
It's good to be self-aware!
Hear, hear.
