Sorry to hear that. I remember my first away trip as a kid. Colchester United on a Tuesday night. Got to the ground and it looked awfully quiet. Got told by a steward it was off. Headed back and filtered the news to fellow Wanderers at the services who were also unaware it had been postponed.
Noted a few posts saying that we needed to get the ball down and a few passes going. I have a feeling that playing the aerial ball was actually the tactic. The pitch looked to me very lumpy, so my 2nd guess was keeping it off the floor was exactly right. Back to pretty football Saturday?
I was being tongue in cheek overall, but as far as Rovers, I was referencing the rumour going around on that postponement thread:
"In fact they signed an U-21 lad from Liverpool on loan this morning, although yes, horse puncher mate says Joey didn’t want the game on or they could have sorted the pitch for tomorrow."
I think the implication was they wanted to strengthen as much as possible in January before having to play again.
What season was that I think I was on a supporters coach? If memory serves it was announced on the radio and the coach spun round at the next roundabout!
Not a hill to die on, and I am no groundsman, but Cheltenham, Taunton and Chippenham all managed to get home games on that day, so maybe Bristol Rovers can ask them how they did it.
I had almost exactly the same experience that night. Turned up literally as a board was being up saying ‘match postponed’. Just drove on, turned around and went home,
I also remember going to a game once, I want to say Chesterfield away, only to see the team coach on the motorway going the other direction. Evidently they had been told the game was off before we had heard the same news via the radio.
Not wanting to derail the tread, a very important 3 points tonight. Not sure we ever got out of second gear and towards the end it could have cost us but all in all a good away performance.
It was 7 degrees centigrade in Bristol that morning and they had about 5 defenders out injured. They were clearly trying to rearrange the fixture for after the January window once they’d brought players in. Not sure why I’m being challenged here.
What I've noticed a lot this season, is Ainsworth's willingness to learn and do things differently. He mentioned a few weeks ago that he and Dobbo had sat down prior to the Xmas period to work out why it had always gone so badly. They analysed when players were feeling leggy and knew they'd have to ring changes for the Plymouth game.
In the post-match tonight, he talks about how he knew he'd give the players a different gameplan after 60mins, even staying past HT to run it through with the subs. Perhaps I'm wildly reaching by presuming he didn't always do that, but I've never heard him explain it like that before.
Incredibly lucky to have a manager modest enough to still visibly be learning on the job.
It was a referee who called the game off as did the referee at Newport and Yeovil and a whole host of Western and Southern league games in the Bristol area. Let’s not get consumed by conspiracy theories.
Anyway great win today with two highly promising debuts to boot. Could be an exciting end to season

Not a comfortable watch, but a really good win. Defence outstanding again.
Think Bolton on Saturday come in the 'Big Game' category!
Must win
Thank you.

That was just before we left. She's been a couple of games this season, Burton at home and Barnsley away.
Anyways hope those involved in the crash are OK.

who knew? opposition non-bitterness…

Bit of a bizarre post. What exactly should they have done to get the game on?
Made this sun come out? Change the freezing point of water?
They did sort of game the system though.
How?
Any news regarding the Jordan Willis injury?
Are you new here?

The pitch was frozen and the ref called it off. More or less every game in the country without undersoil heating was called off that day.
Not entirely sure what that person is suggesting Bristol Rovers could have done differently

GA said he was cramping up in his interview with Phil.
That sounds like an absolute nightmare!

That is really tough! A great result hopefully cheers us all up.

Same here! That was Boxing Day one year wasn't it?
I'm guessing, but maybe their pitches weren't frozen?

I believe Phil often has that effect on people. Bit lèse majesté to have that effect on GA though.
Seriously, though, I noticed that Jordan Willis was grinning up at Grimmer just before he stood up. I think he’ll be fine.
I think some of Ainsworth’s best ever tactical approaches have come in the last 4-5 games. He’s nailed every single fixture recently.

Because you're talking nonsense
How did they manage to convince the referee the pitch was frozen if it wasn't? Scatter it with ice cubes perhaps?
It needs to be remembered that the referee calls it off, not the home team.
