In other other football, the Great Britain Women's American Football Team beat Canada this evening in the semi-final of the 2022 Women's American Football World Championships, currently in progress in Finland. That was a brilliant and unexpected result, guarantees them silver medals at least, and sets them up for a final against reigning world champions USA next Wednesday. They'll have to play the game of their lives to match the success of the association football Lionesses and win the tournament, but they've given themselves a chance.
I think it is possibly that in many cases they are taken out of (at least partly) the more typical family/school environment and treated like they are ‘special’ at a stupidly young age.
Although I do appreciate that is only a partial view to what is a much more complex and nuanced debate
Anyone else seen the video on the WanderersTV website of Wycombe Women’s goals against Portsmouth Development squad ? Certainly puts Mary Earps’ performances into perspective!
I’m no expert on Womens’ football but have watched (or part watched) maybe a couple of dozen previous international and WSL matches . Mary Earps is head and shoulders above any other goalkeepers I have seen (although not literally as, according to Wikipedia, she is only 5’7”). Makes that tip over the bar seem all the more remarkable.
To be fair goalkeeper is one of the harder technical roles in football and as discussed on the Nathan Bishop thread one of the toughest to get experience at.
On the upside the WSL turning professional has seen a vast improvement in goalkeepers in particular as they now get to train daily and have the benefit of a dedicated goalkeeping coach; thankfully the days of sticking the least athletic member of the squad in goal are long gone at senior level.
Mary Earp has taken her chance under the new coach having thought her England career was over 2 years ago after being dropped. After the Euros final the role is hers to lose.
Do you know, @Erroll_Sims, I was sure myself throughout the Women’s Euros that the England goalkeeper was called Mary Earp and, wag that I am (in the old-fashioned sense, of course), I started referring to her as Wyatt. Creased me but made no impact on mrs micra whatsoever and, must admit, I soon stopped. One knows one’s place, don’t one.

Wow what a pass from Keira Walsh & a superb chip over the keeper by Ella Toone
Oh dear - fair play to Germany, a really well worked goal with Magull getting the final touch
Damn extra time & perhaps the dreaded penalties
Amazing - super game management from England once they went ahead in the seconf period of extra time and a well deserved win.
So proud of them and the whole squad and Sarina Wiegman makes history winning the Euros with 2 different nations,
Brilliant.
It’s coming home.
May their glory never fade.
Sensational stuff. Brilliant use of the ball to the corner flag for the last 5 minutes. Toone’s goal was pure class.
Their "game management" put WWFC to shame!
Gotta say, I thought Germany’s tactics were cynical and pretty nasty. They deserved to lose just for that.
Quite enjoyed them objecting to perfectly standard throw in awards late on.
Well done to the lionesses anyway, great achievement. Bring on the chairgirls at AP.

An American World Championships that actually includes other countries?
Seriously wtf is going on in families & schools that this is now needed? https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/62418468

It's probably always been needed tbh, just more difficult for clubs to ignore or cover up.

As long as mrs @micra is not called Carol and you kept having to say 'Ok Carol, ok...'
(I'll get me coat...')
Anyone else got a migraine from the new Sky Sports score graphic? If it ain't broke...
??
Was having a pony when I suddenly fell in.
Wyatt Earp and the OK Corral.
You were right to get your coat 🧥!
If anyone wants to feel a bit better about today's game, watch Mohammed Salisu's own goal for Southampton
United's latest new era off to a flyer. That's for Bishop.
Long way to go yet but the Ducks might be getting their own home at last.
