I'm up in Manchester for work and the rearranged Halifax v York game from yesterday is being played tonight. I thought I would make the 40 mile trip for my second visit.
I know I have been to The Shay when it had the huge bank behind the goal but I can't remember us playing Halifax at The Shay since my formative Wycombe supporting days in 89/90.
When we came up in 1993 they were relegated and when they got back in to the League we were in Tier 3. They went out of the league again before we were relegated in 2004 back to Tier 4.
Have we played Halifax at The Shay since 1989 and I've just missed it?
A game that featured Sido Jombati's first Wycombe goal (a good left footed strike if I remember right), and one Kieran Sadlier came off the bench for Halifax!
Completely forgotten about that game but I didn't go to that one and the big bank (North Side) was replaced in around 1998 I've just found out, which means I must have been to The Shay between 89-97. Probably with a mate who was up at Uni in Lancs or Yorkshire between 91-95.
People talk about Luton's rise, but imagine being a Brighton fan whose club almost went out of the league, had to play at an athletics stadium when they lost their own, and were passing around buckets for continued existence...and now are one of the best run clubs on earth, with a new(ish) stadium and a development pipeline that is basically the English Dortmund?
I had two teachers at my school who were fans of Brighton and Bournemouth respectively. The numerous Arsenal and Spurs fans used to have a good laugh at them...no-one is laughing any more!
Very subjective view, he's obviously a fan and put a lot of money in with little expectation of seeing much of it ever again but still runs a sensible and progressive club doing great scouting rather than hoovering up big names. Chelsea's Brighton fetish doesn't explain all the profit as they did pretty well before transfers but if you can buy at £10m and sell at £120m a few times you will do alright.
Interestingly I'm starting to hear their fans and Apparently the manager talk about ambition and next level, smells of Charlton and being careful what you wish for.
He did, if they'd had a poor year he'd have written another cheque it's probably not entirely unfair for him to take some back when they've smashed it.
If it was , and still is very unlikely he'll get the money back it's pretty much a gift. The aim is probably to get somewhere in-between so he can walk away at some point with the club valuable and profitable enough to be worth someone paying a lot for it.
Might not look great on paper but it's a long way from the withdean
Kidlington is near enough part of Oxford these days - since the opening of the Oxford Parkway station, the expansion of the airport and the building of new science and business parks, property prices have skyrocketed. Once the stadium is built, along with the 1,000s of new houses and myriad new business parks, there be no effective gap between Kidlington and the city.
Ebsfleet United are playing two games in two days - a rescheduled league game followed by the Kent Senior Cup final. They have released this statement:
The dates we were offered other than 17th April were well into May, as much as 18 days after the last match of our league season. National League contracts usually expire seven days following the end of a season, particularly those on yearly contracts, so it just wasn't practical for either club to play the Final in May. We also suggested playing the Final in July during the Club’s pre-season which was unfortunately rejected. As a result, we had no choice after that but to play on the 17th April. Given how fantastic your support has been across all competitions this season, we hope you will support the team in the Final against Maidstone.
To make things even more interesting, Gillingham’s Priestfield was scheduled to host the final however it has since been moved to Hayes Lane, home of Bromley, on “safety advice”.

They've literally got one shape to avoid.
Well, two. But it would be a lot harder to accidentally do the other one.
Reminds me of the banned Fiorentina shirt

We won 4-0 there in the FA Cup in 2015
I’ve definitely watched a comfortable victory there in the FA Cup. Feels not too long ago but that could mean any time since about 2010.

Hadn't Sido scored a couple of his special move free kicks from the edge of the area by that point?

Thanks for the input everyone.
Brighton just announced a profit of £122.8m for the 2022/23 financial year. It can be done.
How much of that came direct from Chelsea?
Lol
You need to delve a bit further.
Even with this huge profit they still owe £468M to creditors falling within one year.
Its a paper profit when in fact the club is insolvent and would be finished if TB decided to walk.

In 22/23 he took about £33M out of the club, though the club still owe him about £350M
presumably, though a chunk of that debt is on account of the stadium cost? Which is also looking like money well spent.

I agree, though they would need to smash it for another 11 seasons for him to get his loans back. This is not gifts but interest free loans.
The stadium cost just under £100M. Oxfords new ground at half the size has reported to have spiralled to £150M.

150 million!? For a league 1 outfit? That's utterly ridiculous.
Seems like a crazy amount but then land prices in Oxford are crazy.
The land would be leased from the council.
The £150M is cost to build stadium, hotel and infrastructure.

£50 million per stand seems a little pricey
That’s why it’s called the triangle.
I thought it was going to be in Kidlington, not Poxford?

Oxford City boundary doesn't extend to Kidlington. They are just another franchise like MK.
