Have seen some say Cyrille Regis was bigger. Anyone old enough to remember agree? To me, given stage of career, this seems quite a bit bigger.
Cyrille Regis was a legendary game changing player who played all bar the last 3 years of his football I'm the top flight. He earned a number of international caps back in the days where they weren't handed out like sweets.
Vokes has played a good few seasons in the Premier league and scored some goals but not up there with Cyrille's standard.
However, as above 31 is wildly different to 36 in stage of career, so this one probably ranks higher.

Cyrille Regis was a legendary game changing top flight forward, whereas Vokes has played there and scored a handful but not the same league.
However,as above 31 is wildly different to 36 in stage of career, so this one probably ranks higher.
I’ll spin that around and say given how young we were as a league club I’d say signing Regis was a bigger impact signing. At the moment we have just come out of the Championship.
If I was honest I would rank the Ashford/Barrett signings as the most seismic, with notable mentions to Nicky Evans, Steve Thompson and the Mooney/Betsy period too.
Vokes is exactly the signing we need. A proper target man

Regis was five years older when we signed him but had scored 11 goals in the Premiership two seasons previously for Villa.
He scored 140 goals in the top division and to me is more of a marquee signing than Vokes, however Vokes has age on his side and the opportunity to gain legendary status over the next few seasons.
Two great interviews yesterday and I can already see he’s got the right attitude and ethos for the club.
@Right_in_the_Middle can't disagree with that. I can remember the Cyrille excitement as a kid.
I wsa lucky enough a few years later, to see him present awards to my footy team in a church in Wycombe.
I still treasure that photo with him.

Rather worrying to read the comments on the Stoke forum. Hopefully they are wrong and Vokes just didn't fit in with their style of play.
When did Stoke last have a hero they lauded. Pretty miserable bunch by all accounts and the poor sod only started 5 games last season so not got a whole lot to judge on.
Stoke, Sunderland etc etc all in the same camp in relation to fans, ex premiership club who still think the game owes them something. Vokes is just what we need something to prove as well as facing lower standard defences. Very surprised if he doesn’t score at least 15-20 goals with the attacking players we have now.
I'd say Cyrille just Pips it for the reasons given above, but the one thing Vokes does have in his favour is being younger, like someone said earlier, if it all goes well he could easily stay 4 or 5 seasons
As great a player as Cyrille Regis was, when we signed him, he was 36 and the general feeling was he had been in a slow decline after the last few years.
But Vokes signing has really put a buzz around the area, he is only 31, and is still a real handful.
And the fact its been a long time since a single signing has created so much excitement.
Sunderland don't really rate 09 and thought Scowen could not play. Judging by his career Vokes seems to have been signed just as another front two are coming into their own. He got a good run at Burnley when they sold Ings' strike partner or something. Whatever other clubs say he's a Chairboy now and a man with something to prove!
Stoke fans are pretty moody - I work with one and he agrees too. Straight onto anyone's back who's not straight on it. I know we've got a few here like that, but very much a minority.
Never ceases to amaze me what people will give away on Twitter. Chanced upon a head teacher who seemed obsessed with Vokes and posting far too much about how glad he was that we'd bought a mug. Probably delivering an assembly to his pupils about tolerance and respect as I type.
I'd add Derby County to @OX66's list of the entitled too.

Well Hearts fans were pretty wrong about Uche!
What did Hearts fans say about Uche?
I am a firm believer certain clubs fit certain players. Our recruitment seems to recognise that.
I also think you could find any view on any player if you search the social media cesspool enough.

There was a clip of him falling over they seemed to love sharing. They also said he looked great for a bit , got injured a lot and wasn't consistent which may have more basis in truth.
By and large, the Hearts fans I read liked Uche for his wholeheartedness and were sorry for his injuries and that it hadn't quite worked out for him there. No sense that he was an unpolished diamond but neither did they suggest he was a total dud. Quite a difference in attitude there to the many Stoke comments saying we'd done them a favour taking this useless (in some cases, lazy) player off their hands.

Richard Dobson has played a blinder in getting Sam Vokes, probably the most underrated member of staff at Wycombe Wanders of all time.
Not underrated by many on here I would have thought.
A dip into Twitter cesspool last night and it was a joy to read one Stoke fan describe Voles as their worst striker since Keith Scott. Let’s hope he also reaches legend status for us then.
Vokes top scorer to upset Stoke. Scowen to score a hat-trick in both Sunderland games. Bayo in double figures off the bench? Plenty to look forward to.
Where as Nicky Mohan just seemed to go through the motions after signing for us from Boro.
When he came back with Stoke to play against us, he looked every inch a quality central defender.

What an odd post, not only is Dobbo well loved by anyone who isn't an idiot but this seems to be inferring it had nothing to do with the manager.

A level-headed Stoke friend said to me, "He was dire for us but hopefully you play someone around him he can link with."
He hasn't come from Mars. Everyone knows what he can do.
Looking at Freeman, Kashket or even Samuel last night...if they play around him there will be chances. Gareth and Dobbo must think he will work for the way they want to play or they would not have coughed up.

I wonder if Vokes will get a runout at Hanwell Town on Friday night.

I'd also add that Regis was a household name.
Very happy with Vokes though, so hope he proves all the Stoke fans wrong !

Certainly puts the ‘poor little Wycombe’ narrative to bed

The thing I liked about Uche was that he looked quite crap and ungainly...easily upended but then unleashed a fantastic shot out of nothing.

@StrongestTeam, I think you're misreading that. Had @Wendoverman said "Underrated by many....", but he didn't.
Yeah, I was referring to the original post @Wendoverman is replying to. Not @Wendovermans post.
I'm happy just to be included...
