What should happen to this season?

  • Ah, the return of @micra. Was getting more than concerned about you. In particular as you only live round the corner from me, yet you know exactly where I live but I don't know precisely your location. How about you pm me your address and I can at least offer assistance if needed? No worries if you would rather not.

  • Before my contribution, welcome back @micra great to hear from you again...

    In the meantime...

Another setback for the EFL on resuming the season...

It's over, we all know it really. It's how they decide positions.

This bit was interesting though below.

"Ironically, any player whose contract expires on 30 June and has not signed for another club does receive a severance payment for July."

It sounds surprising that you have to still pay a player extra when you've released them, just because they hadn't found a new club.
    Only in football!

  • The return of @micra ! A sign that the good times may be returning. Glad to hear you’re OK.

  • Reeeturrrrn of the mac---ra

  • Fleetwood's chairman on the crisis: https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/52363030

He suggests going back to a regionalized L1 and L2. So basically the old third divisions North and South, I assume.

Thanks @Manboobs. I’d love to be a herald of better times but I fear the best I can be is philosophical. I’ve been pretty sedentary for three or four years now so not much has changed as a result of the lockdown. Our bungalow is split level and has five stairs (steps?). I go up and down them at least a dozen times daily and also walk behind a motor mower for an hour or so every week to ten days. In fact, after I sent my daughter the superb video of the Bowie inspired tribute to “captain Tom” Moore - wish I could put a link on here - she said she hoped I’d been inspired. I told her that I’d walked back and forth 82 times this afternoon, mowing, but not a penny was forthcoming so far.

Time I had an early night, I think, but not before thanking @EwanHoosaami for his kind offer of help (I’ve sent a PM separately) and asking @Malone what he meant by the ‘grandma’ reference- surely not alluding to correction of mrs micra. More than my life’s worth!

I liked @mooneyman’s reference to distribution of sweets. The irony is that none of the three ladies who’ve been doing shopping for us goes to Morrisons and I am currently sweetless.

  • Sorry @micra but nothing yet in my inbox?

  • @micra...the classic asking for correct spelling (spellz) and grammar (grandma)

  • Gotcha @Malone !

@EwanHoosaami: It appears i sent the DM to someone known as @ewanoctavium2th - clearly an easy mistake to make when DM refused many times to accept my carefully keyed @EwanHoosaami. I’ll give it another whirl!

  • now with all due respect to @EwanHoosaami @ewanoctavium2th just from the name sounds like a much more interesting person...

  • Still no joy @micra . I will dm/pm you and perhaps you can reply to that?

There's only one Ewan Octavium 2th, one Ewan Octavium 2th....

  • I know. I tried to edit yesterday’s message- well the recipient bit - but that appears to be impossible. It wasn’t the shortest of messages (no surprise there!) so a bit frustrating.
@Wendoverman: have a look at the other guy’s profile picture and you will see someone who may well be “interesting” but I don’t recall ever seeing a post from him.

PS just looked at it again and it has transformed into a morbidly obese naked piano player. Wasn’t it once one of Richie’s profile pictures? Extraordinary.

  • 2th sounds canine rather than numerical.

  • One Ewan and one Evan @Shev ?

  • Richie in the nude, the Gasroom is plummeting to new depths!

  • Correction. Not a piano player. A 20nd century computer operative, hopefully working at home.

  • I deleted that account (it was some sort of spam bot) so that there was no way they could access the mis-addressed message - which is why the profile photo has changed.

  • Cheers @Chris. Much appreciated. Also, @EwanHoosaami and I have just exchanged messages.

Fixed, thanks @micra. We all know there are three Evan Octavium 2ths, so that would have been rather inaccurate to say the least...

  • @micra I never look at pictures on the internet.

  • Very wise @Wendoverman, especially on this occasion.

  • It was mentioned on here a few times. I think I pointed out both he and Gareth certainly do not share the "finish this season however far into the future it takes" option many favoured.

  • Much as I would prefer the season to be played out - our best chance of promotion for years I suspect - it's not looking likely as this disaster continues to unfold.

  • I think Rob is being overly optimistic thinking we will all be at Adams Park watching the Blues in mid August. If the season starts on time, I think it will initially be behind closed doors.

We are so lucky to now have him in control though.

Being on furlough right now, I've had all manner of time to trudge through all manner of ideas.

The one I simply don't get, is the one where top 2 (or 3 in league 2) are promoted as they stand, but no relegations take place.

The twisted and out of balance logic that those at the top have "earnt" their right to go up, yet it's "harsh" to punish relegation on 3/4 of the season!

Plus no extra promotion place for who would have won the players - so we wouldn't sneak up as 3rd

Anything decided surely has to be applied equally to all?

Having 22 in the Premier league for example would be a strange idea, when there will surely be limited time next season as it is.

    either
    1) Play it out BCD
    2)Award everything on average points
    3)Void everything.

Obviously, with no precedent, and nothing in the rules to cover it, anything they do is making it up on the spot.

  • The various options really are the definition of a rock and a hard place. Making a fresh start for next season would be the obvious option, if it were not for the very pertinent fact that there are no guarantees it can finish either. Though I have my own opinions, I do not think there is any truly satisfactory outcome.
