Thanks for posting the David Squires piece @Chris. I’m a slow reader, especially on the tiny screen of my iPhone, but the comments in particular were interesting and illuminating. I’m not a Grauniad reader (or a reader of any other newspaper) but it brought home to me how well educated and articulate yer average Guardian reader is.

Hopefully Bury have now learnt the lesson that spending money you don't have eventually catches up with you.
I always love the Squires cartoons but this has to be the best ever.
Could easily have been us after the Steve Hayes years though.
Just checking, but was this post made with a due sense of irony?
Steve Dale makes Steve Hayes look like a saint !!!

Sadly in the last few minutes, appears the proposed Bury takeover has fallen through.
There is still an hour or so and much can change, but looks extraordinarily grim for them.
Bolton perhaps a little more hopeful - often these things are done in the last 10 minutes.
Christ almighty! Up and down like a yo-yo...this is torture for the fans. Volunteers at Bury thought they were clearing up for Saturday's game!
