If any manager really wants to go then it will happen subject to satisfactory compensation. No point keeping unhappy players or managers nowadays.
However I think (and hope) that Gareth will want to get a promotion on his CV. All he will get is a relegation battle at Barnsley with no opportunity to bring in new players.
We could easily be playing Barnsley next season - I could understand his head being turned if PNE or Blackburn came knocking, but don't see him going to Oakwell unless they're paying gaz-illions.
didn't walk around after the game ? lol thats got noting to do with it and I would be shocked if he chose to go now but if that's what he wants we would be in the shit cos dobbo would go aswell and we would have bloomers running the show.
This would actually be newsworthy if it said Ainsworth had turned down Barnsley. I'm not sure Howard turning them down adds anything at all to the issue and the article doesn't mention what Ainsworth is saying.
I still think the transfer window should apply to managers as well as players
@fame46 did not applaud the true fans who pay his wages? I bet that caused a storm on Twitter @rmjlondon it's your endless positivity about the club and Gareth that keeps us going.
my thoughts, for what it's worth, are that the club know that Ainsworth has no intention of leaving at this stage for that club and will be following up today's story with a "one Wycombe", "here to finish the job I've started", "got something really special here" type piece later in the week
If I was Barnsley I would certainly be looking at Gaz. If I was Gaz...I would not go with the chance of a promotion for my CV. Having said that I am not Barnsley or Gaz.
Maybe @eric_plant . Perhaps a better way would be to say the rejection would mean something if it came from the man himself rather than from Howard. Seems @DevC is sold on it though so maybe I am totally wrong. From his post he's already bought a flat cap and packed a suitcase.
Love the way @Chris places so much stock in the bookies. Wasn't Michael Harriman 4-1 to score the first goal last night at some bookmakers?
@DevC said:
Marginally interesting that the comment came from Howard rather than chairman Stroud.
no idea if the interest is serious. Feels like there is a better than 1 in 28 chance though.
Of course we don't know for sure that the interest is from Barnsley. Could QPR have sacked Holloway but not announced it yet?
Howard is the club's Sporting Director and therefore responsible for the playing side. Seems perfectly reasonable that he should be the spokesperson in this matter.
It seems a strange time to be looking to appoint a manager with minimal Championship experience given they're in a relegation fight. Credit to Barnsley for looking for a positive option but if I were their chairman I'd be looking at throwing money at Paul Clement until the end of the season. I wonder how many other lower league managers they've been looking to sound out. Just because an approach has been made to Wycombe it doesn't mean Ainsworth is their first choice. Let's hope not anyway!
Thank goodness we've seen this approach off. That'd have taken all the shine off the recent excellent wins in one moment!
A bit of a risk for Gaz, but he knows he has a safe job here, and won't want to walk away from our great chance of promotion after all his hard work.
I think people under value Barnsley again, as seen when Scowen went there. They're a hugely bigger club, and currently 2 divisions higher. Even if they were relegated, who is to say we'd be able to keep going so well without the man who'd put the team together?
If you look on Skybet Zavon Hines is 13/2 to be first goal scorer for Wycombe on Saturday!! A quick check on Wikipedia suggests he signed for Chesterfield in January!

doesn't mean they won't be back again
Garreth would have to be stark raving mad to go to Barnsley

See what I did there? ;-)

@Right_in_the_Middle a championship side approaches us to speak to our manager and you don't think it's newsworthy?

time will tell

ah that is bad news for WWFC if potentially good news for GA. bugger.
Ainsworth is still 28-1 with Sky Bet. Jack Ross looks fairly nailed on. https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/st-mirren-boss-jack-ross-12021732
Worth a small flutter surely at that price.
I don't think so, no
There’s no way the club would stand in his way. It’s GA that’s turned Barnsley down, not WWFC

Holloway is doing a fine job under very difficult circumstances, I would think it QPR came calling he would go immediately.
Howard is the club's Sporting Director and therefore responsible for the playing side. Seems perfectly reasonable that he should be the spokesperson in this matter.
Dev, bookies have it as a 1 in 29 chance, not 1 in 28
"pedantic"

"pedantic" and wrong, Eric.
you are forgetting their profit margin. if there was a race between two equal horses, they wouldn't offer evens on either.
...and the exchanges would offer better odds on both
Not quite sure why the Plymouth Herald are so interested - https://www.plymouthherald.co.uk/sport/wycombe-wanderers-turn-down-approach-1214887

not wrong at all
28/1 = 1 in 29
that's just maths

hopefully if he goes they'll get a manager that suits richie.
