  • Declan Link!

  • Tony Price who, in his second spell in 79-80 (2 previous sub games in 76-77), gave one of the finest performances I have seen in a Wycombe shirt. In the 5-0 home win over Harrow Borough, he scored a sublime hat-trick and was completely unplayable, even more remarkable given that he only came on in the 34th minute. I was so excited that I went round to Mike Keen's sports shop after the game and sang his praises over the counter to him!

  • Steve Perrin, He has the remarkable feat of leaving an Isthmian League winner in 74/75
and returning 17 years later in 82/82 to winner another league winners medal. Incidentally the first time Wanderers had won the league since 74/75 season.

  • Maths not your strong point, Chas?

Was the 82/82 season unusually short?

  • Good one Dev.

  • @Steve_Peart and @ChasHarps may be among the minority on here who are old enough to remember Derek Harris. I remember him returning from a spell elsewhere totally transformed in terms of technical ability and skill on the ball. He was also darkly handsome (according to MrsMicra).

  • I could have made it a 82-90 season, but that still wouldnt have been long enough
for Dev to see a game at Loakes Park.
He was well and truly on the Watford bandwagon in those days !!

  • Derek Harris used to teach me PE and physics at school. Everyone was terrified of him. Remember giving him plenty of grief when he played against us (for Hendon?), knowing we'd regret it on Monday morning.

  • Looking at old photos, he was bigger than I recalled.

  • Who can forget John Kerr's diving header against Kiddy on his return in 88-89, brief though it was.

  • Derek Harris played for Harrow after he left us, was part of the excellent Earlsmead side that won the league league title by 17 points in 83/84.
I could never quite fathom why we let Harris go, always thought he was a fine player
at Loakes Park, and even better when he came back playing at full back for Harrow.

  • I am absolutely certain he had two spells at Loakes Park.

  • One of them was probably "Expelliarmus" but cant for the life of me remember the other.

Oh no hang on, that was Richard not Derek Harris. Silly me.

  • He did in 75/76 and 77-79. I think we signed him from Maidenhead. I remember seeing him turn out for Slough in his twighlight years.

  • Is Expelliarmus related to @EwanHoosami?

  • Another one, was my old PE Teacher Bobby Davies !!

You were about 12 years old when the redoubtable Derek played for Wycombe. Can I go now, please. Rain is setting in and the dogs are getting restless.

  • There were quite a few players Brian Lee signed that would have second spells with the Wanderers. Too add to those previously mentioned. John Delaney,Peter Suddaby,Peter spittle,Ray Eaton, Alan Phillips.

  • Keith Searle too.

  • Previously mentioned, do keep up Devsy !!

  • Derek Harris taught me too, @MindlessDrugHoover . You were at Challoner's?...

  • I'd like to see Tony Sorrell back at the club. We didn't see the best of him...

  • Ironically, a lot of issues were caused when the other players saw Tony Sorrell's back at the club

  • @StrongestTeam - Troy Deeney?

  • I watched Roger Johnson on Soccer AM once and he didn't come across at all a bellend. He seemed quite articulate and embarrassed about the situation at Wolves, and was refreshingly honest by saying the club had given him a contract, then chosen not to play him, and if he gave it up he would lose a lot of money.

Yeah, i'm struggling a little to see where that incredible take on Johnson is coming from.

He had one incident of turning up a little boozy, was there much else?

He suited Birmingham really well and earnt rave reviews for them. He wasn't that good for a shockingly poor Wolves team.
I'd say it'd be idiotic to just walk away from that Wolves contract, knowing for absolute certain you'd never get anywhere near that again, with your playing powers fading.

  • @MindlessDrugHoover I left in '87. You?
