Gareth Ainsworth

  • On the Neville/Lampard/Terry route - I remember the last time we went down that route and, if memory serves, it didn't end well.

  • @LX1 , you might find yourself surprised shortly... and Hayes is clearly being groomed for the next manager here, I just didn't think it'd be this early!

Still hope we stay as we are for a while yet, the job here isn't finished, and I look forward to who is brought in this summer. If Ainsworth suddenly goes, we might struggle with recruitment.

  • @aloysius ideas so wacky, they have to be borderline wind up material.

  • Eddie Howe is a young manager with no experience when he took over Bournemouth the first time. I could be wrong but they nearly went out of business when he took over look where they are now!!

  • Holloway, no thanks

  • Agreed

    Ditto Martin Allen

  • Ian Holloway for me tbh.

  • I'm not sure that Blackburn will come in for him. Even if I found the below from 2012 going along with his aspiration to manage them -

    http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/10011305.Managing_Blackburn_Rovers_is_long_term_aim_for_Ainsworth/

It might well be a sensible appointment for Blackburn, but I don't think Venkys have been or, will be sensible. I also had a little look on a Blackburn forum (roverstalk) Gareth's isn't a name that has really been discussed.

  • Who do you want at Everton Clive?

  • Based on this thread and my long term desire to manage my home town team I suppose I just have to sit back and wait for the call once the seemingly inevitable move to Blackburn for Gareth. Anyone fancy being assistant manager?

I don't think I've ever seen a thread with an assumption being used as truth to this level without DevC being involved.

  • @eric_plant Clive Everton? (in the spirit of Wolfgang Wolf becoming Wolfsburg manager)

  • I thought he might go for Gary Mills

  • Shock horror and disaster all round as the manager who has not yet gone is replaced by people other people on Gasroom don't rate. It's a going to be a long summer.

  • Very hard to tell what is truth and what is a load of old bollocks when it comes to the bookies' new managers odds.

Warnock is the odds-on favourite at the moment for the Blackburn job. However, reports say if Rafa leaves Newcastle, then Mike Ashley will look to hire Warnock.

If that was to happen, Ainsworth would actually be the second-favourite based on the current odds on both BetVictor and SkyBet, after Craig Hignett, who would be a crazy appointment, his whole managerial career consisting of 20 games at Hartlepool this season.

  • Keith Scott will be the next manager with Dobbo as his assistant. He should have been given the job last time.
It is the perfect opportunity to make the change, and receive a substantial compensation payment from Blackburn at the same time ! COYB

  • Keith Scott will never manage WWFC, I would stake everything I own on it !

  • No chance @lordmelchester , Paul Hayes is clearly being groomed for the job.

But it would be too early for both him and Gaz this summer I suspect.

The Venkys lot seem pretty clueless about football, so to appoint a guy who isn't a huge name (in their eyes) would seem strange.
But then they did appoint that bizarre guy whose name I can't even remember he was such an out of his depth no mark.

  • What is it with you guys wanting Keith Scott as manager, what do you know that I don't. Keith is a really nice guy, but apart from managing non league for a relatively short time I don't see his CV as very impressive. I am not convinced he has a great network of contacts to find players. Please tell what am I missing?

I don't think it's clear at all that Hayes is being groomed for the job. Neither do I think Keith Scott would be a good appointment.

On the other hand I think Gareth Ainsworth would be a great fit for Blackburn. But luckily for us we've got him on a long contract.

  • Keith Scott manages Hughenden under 16's at the moment. Would be quite a step up.

  • Keith Scott has the club in his soul - not only has he been a great player for the club but also he is one of us - supporting the club from the stands.
Need a fresh approach from a new manager to bring our supporters back.

  • He is a legend for certain, from a time we had so many likeable players, inextricably linked with the best time in our history.

But mere passion can't be enough. We've had It rammed down our throats about the lack of funds. To expect a novice to come in from the cold, deal with that, and achieve anything would be an insane risk.

That'd be the one thing Hayes would at least have over Scott. He's right amongst the set up, and is a huge influence by all accounts. Can't imagine he doesn't get well involved in key decisions, and training.

If I was a betting man, I'd certainly see Hayes taking over. But not for a minimum of 12-18months. Ainsworth going now would be a real blow, despite what the moaners would say about our end of season and some of the football

@Chris Do you really think that long contract is much more than a show of loyalty between the owner and Ainsworth? A bit of a political stance? It's not like it'd up the compensation from say 50k to 500k or anything!

  • I don't think who's the manager at AP, makes any difference tbfh, until we pay off our debits. We are going to be last in the queue for decent players regardless.

Having a good relationship with clubs and a very good scouting network is the key to bring in rough diamonds to the club and "playing them" and staying mid table. All this manager nonsense merry go round, Ainsworth is going nowhere. 3 years left on his contract and is technicaly (needs to address alternative approaches to beating teams) wet behind the ears and learning his trade.

I'll say it again Ainsworth ain't going anywhere despite the bookies odds.

  • It would be insane to appoint Hayes as manager - clearly a clone of Ainsworth and " the old pals act"
Do you really think that he earned another contract [ 2 years! ! ] based on his performance this season?

  • How long until the new season...?

I can't see Blackburn taking a chance on GA but I can imagine he'd find it hard to say no.

Keith Scott is wishful thinking for a few nostalgic types and much as I admire Hayes as a player and captain that doesn't mean he'd necessarily be a good manager.

I also can't really think of any of the out of work managers I'd particularly want so hopefully this thread will wither on the vine

  • Ainsworth moves to odds-on for the first time - he was 4/1 this morning. Not saying it's based on anything concrete, but the bookies must be going on something...

  • Keith Scott - your time has come.
We need you now , Keith
    COYB

  • Keith Scott may have had the qualities to one day be a great manager for WWFC,but, he's shown no commitment to pursuing a career in professional football management. If he was now managing a conference club then maybe , but he's not and has never moved on from whatever level Windsor were at.

@lordmelchester - "It would be insane to appoint Hayes as manager"
Why would it be insane? (Assuming Gaz were to leave).

  • Everyone has gone crazy.
