I thought both teams were quite evenly matched and nine points out of 12 is a decent haul going into the Cup game. It seemed obvious to me that the goals were going to come from mistakes. We were definately not a shower of shite. I thought Sam and O'Nien were both doing a decent job. I may have been watching another game to insightful club insider richmayes...
My turn. I think both Mawson and McCarthy are very good players. Defence/Midfield both got good feet and speed, which I endorse. One thing to remember the higher up the league pyramid, the less elbows and bad tackles they will come up against so their creativity will flourish unless, unfortunately they ply their trade in League 1 and 2.
As for potentially moving onto good and better things, I think McCarthy has the clear advantage of his parent club.
@RITM, I often question certain motives as I want to gauge other fans views and opinions, I read alot of richmayes999 comments with interest and guess what agree with most of them. One view is wtf is going on with Banton ? I have coached and managed u10 to u18 and have come up against strong personalities, but with my persona and diplomacy win people around by hook or crook, what ever has happened behind the scenes, he imo shouldn't be side lined till his end of his contract in my view.
Hand shake, chat and work together as a team, that's what I call leadership, noone left behind and noone over board. Why, because we are paying him to play football and Banton is an asset.
you've been spot on with your facts so far Richy, the playoff keeper we were definitely getting, this new striker JS, or was it BS?
Loanee keeper coming in.
who the hell cares about Banton at the moment? Genuine question.
I saw someone criticising Ainsworth saying a good manager wouldn't isolate someone over his own feelings. Did they miss the whole re-signing of Stewart, someone who we could easily have held a grudge over, bearing in mind he absolutely rucked us over?
Instead Ainsworth realised it was in our best interests, that;s the kind of man he is.
@Malone; I do, That maybe your interpretation. But In my opinion, two totally different scenarios. One refused the offered contract and left the Club, literally leaving the building and refused to return (eventhough we held his registration) and Yes, was resigned after not securing a contract at Crewe.
Banton was loaned out, returned and actually trains with the squad and has been recently on the bench and ofc unused.
Neverthless doesn't look likely to get any game time. This situation may change before June but I doubt it, loved to be proved wrong as I believe he's a talented football player as demonstrated in one of the play offs, plus he had a good game scoring our only goal, against his old side.
Hoped he would be Wycombized (aka time on the bench to learn our playstyle and ways) by now, considering Ugwu had a nice run of 5 games for his Wycombization. I too would be p!@#ed off, would you ?
Ugwu does actually try even though he won't score many goals, Banton is a lazy arse who does nothing and has in my opinion limited ability and if you won't work hard with limited ability (example bloomfield) you won't get anywhere.
Like Richy says, (occasional sensible post in amongst windupry), Ugwu does work hard, he just doesn't have very much quality.
Banton, I thought had a very weird running style and lack of control of the ball from the word go. Ainsworth has a pretty good record of signings, but I'm pretty sure from the things he's said, and the 1 year deal that this was to the "riskier" side of his dealings.
I don't find the Banton scenario odd at all. Just didn't work, doesn't suit us.
Rowe's situation on the other hand, I find very odd. But then I wouldn't ever start him unless we had severe injuries. Nothing against him, he's fairly solid, but not strong enough in the air for me at centre back, and hasn't got the attacking threat of either regular fullback.
And much better options in centre mid.
I wonder what Rowe thinks about things, as I can't overly see it changing, as all of his defensive rivals are signed up fairly mid term.
I think it's absolutely ridiculous that Banton hasn't been given a second chance in the team and - yes, without knowing the facts - also think it reflects very badly on Ainsworth.
Given how poor Sam Wood's form has been this season, the fact we've played him week in, week out, rather than giving Banton a second chance is, in my opinion, a dereliction of duty. Fine, Banton may not be the best at tracking back... but this season Wood has hardly been brilliant at getting crosses into the box. I would say the latter is a more important skill to have in a winger.
Ainsworth really shows no consistency when it comes to man management. On one hand he rehabilitates Stewart; plays Morgan despite the sulks and continues with Wood despite his awful form. On the other hand he sends Spring to Siberia; marginalises Murphy and banishes Banton. Ainsworth gets enormous credit from me for some aspects of his leadership - but I add man-management to making substitutions and rarely changing formation during matches to the areas where he could still improve.
I also recall both Joel Grant and Cowan-Hall had their detractors on the predecessor board when they signed - both went on to prove their critics very wrong. I would love Banton to be given the same chance but I don't imagine it'll be forthcoming.
Good post @malone, I too kind of agreed with @richmayes999 post and was feeling a bit faint as a result!
It's plain to see that there is a big problem with Banton if he can't make it onto the bench at the moment. GA has shown that he's happy to give people a fair crack of the whip if they knuckle down and show willing, so I don't think it's as simple as a handshake and a chat @ciderkid - quite a disrespectful comment really, implying that you think GA doesn't have the correct persona or diplomacy and doesn't show good leadership when these are plainly some of his best qualities.
Comments
cos most of the stuff posted here is absolute crap and I also don't spend my life checking it.
you best not be lumping me in with our frequent WUM friend Mooneyman.
Especially as I'm probably old enough to be your dad!
I am touched that you look on me as your friend! Best wishes for the New Year Mr Malone.
I was calling mateyboy our "WUM friend" to be fair, but of course we're all friends on here.
Here's to a great 2016 all round!
Could @richmayes999 really be @argylephil in disguise?

Hello I like to make things up.
edited.
An unbelievably insightful comment Rich, as always, you complete and utter cretin.
@richmayes999; are you sure as I am certain I saw a picture of Banton in the new Wycombe gym ? cycling away with a big smile on his face.
@Ciderk1d You did. I saw him walk into the gym with the rest of them.
Thank god for that edit function eh.. @richmayes999
Here's a pic...

@richmayes999; could be worse every Month, @micra has to tell me if we our home or away.
Oh I don't think he would have edited it by himself, so I did it for him.
@Chris Ah... that explains why he didn't delete it.
cup tied anyway, want to dispute that FACT ??
you've been spot on with your facts so far Richy, the playoff keeper we were definitely getting, this new striker JS, or was it BS?
Loanee keeper coming in.
100% record so far
He is indeed cup-tied. Nobody is going to dispute that because its the first thing you've said which isn't a load of old toss.

He also kept faith with Dean Morgan for so long despite his "idiosyncrasies"!
I think he learnt a lot about people and their characters in that time.
Probably number 1 being it doesn't matter how talented someone is if they have the attitude of a sulky kid.
I'd quite like to have Dean Morgan in the team at the moment to be honest.
