  • I think that photo made it into the 2019/20 book

  • As sporting photos go this to me is iconic. There is so much in that story.

  • Agreed. I haven’t mentioned his name per when I stated it was my last post on that thread. That ship, sadly, has sailed.

  • Now we've got a "head coach", will he bring in an assistant coach or just a coach / coaches for his backroom team.

Or a mix of said terms.

  • I know these never get picked up but in honour of our new manager and perhaps our best midfielder, I offer you

Cam Humphreys, Cam Humphreys, the greatest gift that we possess

I thank the lord that we've been blessed

    By watching Cameron Humphreys

    (I'll get my coat)

  • We'll probably just adapt 'Dobbo, Dobbo' to 'Doddo, Doddo'

  • Is Mike Dodds an amalgamation of ‘MIKE Bassett’ & ‘ Dave DODDS’?

Hope that we don’t end up sticking to ‘Four, Four ‘fu&&in’ Two’ or we dip in the transfer market today for ‘Ron Benson & Tony Hedges.

  • According to the clubs final tweet tonight, Dodds starts tomorrow (not Thursday as previously stated).

  • I guess the starts tomorrow then takes training on Thursday (Wednesday is usually a day off).

  • Maybe this has been mentioned before but I’d be interested to know whether MD applied for the role or whether he was on a data list compiled by DR, if he applied for the role then to me that speaks volumes on his own confidence in his tactical and man management ability to take the club forward. If it is the latter then I do have slight concerns about his tactical ability, he obviously has an incredible talent for nurturing young players but that is a coaches job. I trust DR as so far everything they board have done has been nothing but positive but MD's lack of managerial experience is a slight concern, I wish him all the best and will back him to succeed for now.

I must admit to being a bit disappointed that our negotiations with the FA (reported by ITKs) did not result in Ashley Cole, Serina Weigman or Stuart Pearce's girlfriend bring appointed.

  • Mike Dodds has a brand new thousand-piece jigsaw but there is no picture on the box

  • Anyone know who this is? Looks like Michael Appleton.

  • looks like it

  • Darren Drysdale?

  • I've met Michael Appleton and he is absolutely huge. I don't think this is him.

  • The one thing that stands out from the video is that Mike loves a hug. Not sure of the current etiquette in football but personally I would have thought a new head coach meeting the players a hand shake (normal one not the ‘cool’ one) would have been more appropriate to set the tone of I’m in charge

  • Just watched Mike's first day at Harlington and noticed one he is not wearing his cap and two he has hair.

  • Just realised watching it, that he will know Bez from when they were both at Birmingham

  • Is this the Appleton side-on lookalike?

  • Here's hoping his name is a positive omen!

  • Oh, he joined in November. Evidently I have been living under a rock.

  • Just thought I could give you a Sunderland perspective on Dodds appointment.

in his time here he has been key to developing a lot of our young talent, Dan Neil, Jobe and Rigg to name three. He is very popular with the players none of them have a bad word to say against him.

when he has been asked to fill a gap between managers he has has to say the least mixed results.

The first time was just a couple of days after he was signed as head of player development when Al x Neal jumped ship for more money and being told we were not going to sign journeyman players ever again. Only a couple of games with players he had never met at a club he had just joined. So don’t read too much into that. He was at Tony Mowbray’s side as we got to the play offs. He will have learnt from that period.

The second short period was between Mowbray leaving and the appointment of Beale, in this short spell he managed two very good tactical wins against Leeds and WBA, out thinking both coaches. That left us in the top five.

His third and longest period came after Beale had totally destroyed the team shape and confidence, Beale has to be the worst appointment as Sunderland manager in my almost sixty years of attending games. So he took on a very young team, average age of the starting eleven was just over 21! The kids had just sufferrrd some of the most bizarre coaching and team selections by Beale and were totally shot. He keep the squad together and despite the poor finish to the season, none of our talented team wanted to leave in the summer, which says a lot about how they saw Dodds.

This season he has worked with the new set up playing another totally different style of play and retained the confidence of all of the squad, just look at the comments after last nights game for confirmation.

in short he is a very good coach whose win loss record doesn’t reflect his ability as a potential manager. Starting his first proper manager role at Wycombe might just be perfect for him.

You might just have a gem of a manager on your hands. Take care of him, he is one of the god guys.

  • No problems, I always had a warm welcome when I posted on here in our League 1 days. Good luck for the future.
