Agree with this - I can't see analytics pointing to the likes of Terry, Lampard, Rooney etc. Much more likely someone we have never heard of in Scandanavia than this type of manager.
Fans still get suckered by the "great player" vibes. Most Leicester fans were ecstatic to get RVN to replace Cooper because RVN was a great player. They are now finding out that great management is a different skillset entirely.
"The M-Dog" as you put it did say he fancied another go and wasn't done yet not too long ago, but it seems inconceivable that being a Wycombe legend is high on the list of requirements or that him and the board would get on in any possible way.
The younger O'Neill has done brilliantly for a couple of spells in the Prem although ultimately ending up with the sack, would be a remarkable coup ahead of champ sides but it's entirely possible we are offering decent money.
JT or similar could be awful, anyone unfortunate enough to remember Tony Adams spell can probably still remember the condescending Arsenal fans and press coverage which seemed to get more favourable to him as he got worse and worse.
@Shev is exactly right on Buckingham above. His record at PNL last season was actually very average having taken over in a strong position. They limped into the playoffs on the last day thanks to Pompey beating Lincoln and - despite a decent playoff campaign - nothing this season has suggested he's got the best out of that team.
Plus - imagine how annoying all the "Thanks Agent Des" comments are going to be from the PNL fans if it goes wrong. They're already smug enough as it is right now.
I do like the show of togetherness from the team following the win at Mansfield but there is a small part of me thinking that they were trying too hard with their posts? How come we haven't seen this outcry of support and togetherness before? Or am I just looking at this as a glass half full?

I hope it's not Whing, just for the endless 'Whinging it' puns when there is no Plan B.
He said 'I'm (cough) O'Neil' and the ownership got him confused with the M-Dog.

Isn’t Des Buckingham actually an Oxford fan? I’m not sure I could accept that!
Yeah - he's a liability in the technical area too, as he can only stand for three quarters of the match.
Amorim.
heard Wilshere has gone further but again dont know how far
There was such an impressive togetherness and continuity about the spirit and the performance on Saturday. It was remarkable.
I hope whoever does get the job doesn't try to fix what isn't broken.
This squad and remaining staff are so self-motivated that there's an argument to just let them get on with it internally.

Saturday was a huge win in the context of the season, and must have been incredibly cathartic.
The scenes weren't that different to a regulat away win anyway.

No new manager elected, got to wait for the smoke to turn white
The basis of this BFP insight appears to be Oddschecker's latest odds.
That fire is on Rutland Avenue, not that far from the ground... 😬
hey guys.....wouldn't it be funny if we got Schumacher in just in time for the visit of the Cobblers?........am I right?
One of those units had a fire in 2017, thankfully not when a game was being played tho
And when we play Salisbury in the FA Trophy
I would guess bookies "refresh" the favourites list once the 50p bets dry up, to try and get a bit more money in from the supposed movement.
Well we know that it won't be the bottom half of Andy Whing's face and body. It's just become manager of Barrow
That really is the full page view! 🤣 https://www.barrowafc.com/news/2025/january/20/welcome-andy-whing/
@Kim_il_Swan Do you think the top half of his face is available and will do a good job!
Whing at the Bluebirds.
Sadler at the Saddlers.
L2 is really on the nose this season, huh?
Now I am really worried about getting Des Buckingham!
Mind you, who ever saw a field blooming in Luton?
Nice conundrum @Shev !
Took a while for the penny to drop re the fields in Luton, for some reason - senility I suspect.
Thank goodness they managed to work out the fine print and get all of his face on board with the deal!
'Head' coach - I get their joke now.
John Hartson's brother?
Head coach not manager. Another team following the data?
