Three things I particularly remember about Dom Gape.
Our amazement when he was signed permanently (and very unexpectedly) following a successful spell on loan from Southampton.
His goal away to Chesterfield that secured promotion to League One. We were having a family lunch in the Crown at Penn and I had to take sneaky looks/listens to events in Chesterfield. The crowd pitch invasion from the away end at the final whistle was a sight to behold.
His pre match visits to the Woodland Lounge when not playing. (Must have been in his early twenties but looked about 16.) His frequent laughter as he chatted to fans on the next table.
The goal he scored from the halfway line at home to ……,,,.HELP!!!
I absolutely love Dom Gape too, slotted in to the back four so often in the way Josh now gets a lot more credit for and not always spectacular or even really noticed but it was him rather than a defender who saved us often, not as good on the ball as Josh but the partnership with Curtis Thompson was superb and pretty rare in that division. Worked so hard.
Says all the Shrews need to know that he's reaching for him now, as he did when he was short at QPR, and says all you need to know about QPR that they mocked and sneered when he was effectively doing them a favour.
Hope his legs hold out. Deserves another few years, can see him running up and down for tears if he can stay fit.
Long story short @SHREWSBURYFan1886 ..... if he is injury free and on a run of gametime..... he may well still be with us.
We now have an embarrassment of riches in midfield..... but before recent signings he was extremely highly thought of by management and all us fans. Great player when in form.... just a bit fragile.
I sincerely hope you do sign him for his sake and yours.
A couple of good saves from Max in there. I am pretty sure that was his first game for us. Contrast that with his last minute fiasco at Barnsley the following season which effectively ended his career as our No 1 choice.
Bit of a sliding doors moment that, surely some refs would have given him a free kick generously and maybe some of the conversations afterwards don't take place, he takes his game a bit more seriously and progresses, or maybe it's just in his nature, football must be full of that kind of thing.
Cut and paste the comments for Gape. Good when fit, which sadly hasn't been anywhere near enough. Wrap him in bubble wrap and you might get 10 games out of him during the second half of the season

That’s four things. The guy was amazing.
The Chesterfield goal was amazing and capped a great day out.
The halfway-ish goal was at Oakwell, in that 3-0 win where all three goals (the other two from Freeman and Mehmeti) were bangers.
Nick Freeman.
Was that Nick’s volley from just outside the box?

Not a volley, but a beautiful shot nonetheless. Also one of the all-time greatest "how did that not go in?" moments before the minute mark.

Hinshelwood has reaffirmed himself to York. Says no contact from wycombe

That 0-3 was his debut wasn't it

Still makes me angry on many levels.
Dale Taylor scores for Wigan at Stevenage. 0-1.
Ofoborh scores for Swindon. Thrilled for him.
It’s Alfie Mawson’s birthday today. He’s 31.
Interesting article about Paul Lambert (did anyone realise he had won the Champions League?)

I'm having a hard time believing that Zidane spoke the words 'bloody hell'
Ryan Tafazolli linked with us. What's he like?

Speaking of Gape, he's officially left Eastleigh today, so must be signing for Shrews imminently.
He's kept the faith well, put the hard yards in and hopefully gets a deserved spell of luck now.
All we'll need really is 10 games from Tafazolli with Pierre being rotated.
Gape signing tomorrow as is Blackman is the word.
Proper reunion at Salop!
Was Blackman just on a trial then? Thought you already had him signed on?
I thought Blackman looked very solid the other night... I forgot how big he was as well !
Crikey you will have 4 ex-Wycombe players in - Pierre, Blackman, Gape and Taf.
Mind you we have 2 or 3 ex Salop players so good linkage between our clubs and there is Gaz and Dobbo as well.
Shrewsbury definitely my 2nd EFL club. 👍👍
Looking forward to the home fixture on the 1st April - won’t know who to cheer the most 👍👍.
if Tafazolli could stay fit he would be a Championship defender. So a great signing if you get enough games out of him!
He does have the turning circle of an oil tanker though
Has anyone trademarked this phrase yet? Riches await!
