Not sure what his scenario was there but if he took over after they were promoted with a squad that was never going to be up to task it might explain that somewhat.
Quick scan of Wikipedia suggests he got manager of the year when he took Wigan up, did a few firefighting jobs elsewhere and even saved a players life giving CPR.
With no input on player recruitment and a squad that seems to know what to do without help from anyone else, it looks like the next manager will just have to take attendance and lead the team out at the start of the game. And a few interviews.
I'll stick 50 quid on myself and apply for the job tomorrow, pointing out that I have no experience but am the bookies favourite.
As much as he did wonderfully yesterday (and this week in general), he seems a reluctant manager and I think giving him the no 1 role would be a very bad move indeed.
Realistically Sam Grace won’t be in the mix at all and probably doesn’t want to be. As Flymo says let him crack on with what he’s good at as we kick on with the development teams and academy.
Apart from Schumacher though the other names mentioned all feel quite meh. The Buckingham rumour probably true, he would likely apply for the job. Brentford bloke seems plausible as that would seem to fit our strategy. I imagine the Holden rumour was made up by his agent thankfully and I just can’t see the owners going for a non league manager.
Yup. We really don't want another Neil Smillie situation on our hands (as a fan, I'm sure Sam Grace will be alive to the parallels and risks to his long term career).
Thought we've had someone lined up for ages, isn't it strange that a lot of rumours aren't true.
Anyway for me, I'd happily take the Brentford guy or Schumacher, tbh all the others just don't feel right, or set the pulse racing. Can't believe Whing is current favourite, underwhelmed would be an understatement.
It does make you wonder if Matty didn’t feel wanted at the club as suggested that they would have have had someone lined up , think it’s not so much about him not being wanted more the fact he didn’t like losing control like many other managers would.
All BS? Targets might not want to come? Bad timing? Not everyone in-house having same opinion? All possible, SG doing great, I'm sure they'll let us know when they get someone else in.
I think we need a manager who will let the players carry on doing exactly what they've been doing and just keep the team's morale up with a few pizza nights, or something. Probably an Italian.
The fact that this regime would have a specific target or targets in mind should Blooms leave (however you feel about the circumstances around his departure) should be something we all agree on. We may not agree on whether they were going to hook Blooms after the first bad run, but we never had the chance to find out.
Not giving a rising manager an extension and then being caught cold with no idea of who you want to take over the position when he leaves would be the height of incompetency. I don't think the new regime are incompetent, and I don't think anyone else does either. If we want to be the new Brentford or Brighton, we are surely thinking in the terms they do, and they always have targets in mind for every position, including manager.
As per some of @StrongestTeam's great post above, having a target does not mean they are still available, or that the club would not interview other prospects who have shaken loose in the meantime.
The reality is that Blooms made himself unsackable with his results up to his departure, so we have no idea how much that messed up any other plans too.
I kinda feel like a drumbeater to maintain morale would probably be good enough for the promotion push, but we should be looking longer term for someone who can make a decent fist of the Championship.
I do wonder what size of bet it takes to impact the bookies for this? They're pretty reactive seeeing as there is always people in the know and betting is so prevalent in the game.
Shev is spot on. One potential replacement I know of was sounded out WELL before Blooms left for Luton but the timing of Blooms’ departure didn’t work for that individual. Whether or not he was ‘first choice’ I don’t know.
I understand that a number of potential candidates have been invited to interview for the post, which could explain the story that Des Buckingham was at Adams Park.
I don’t think we need to rush as it is more important we get the right person in to take us to the next level.
With Sam Grace, Sam Vokes et al more than capable of holding the fort and our squad being so tight and focussed, we seem fine to just make sure we go through the process thoroughly.
Whoever changed the narrative from we've lost Matty ' Mr. Wycombe' to Sam " One of Our One" Grace needs to head up the P.R. department better than folk who thought the yeah, Cheers Blooms thanks for kipping on the sofa and getting up at 04.45 for 20 years, Bye, bye now communique.

I wouldn’t have considered it until yesterday, but hopefully Sam Grace is in the mix somewhere. If he’s interested.
Obviously promotion form this league a huge ask for a first time manager, but he wouldn’t have to spend time winning EJ players over.

I think we've got to go external for someone with experience. Let Sam G get on with what he's good at.
It sounds brilliant.
Just the sort of possible snippets of hand me down in the know stuff.

Are you Dave Carroll in disguise?
I'd be delighted with Buckingham and especially delighted with Schumacher
I’m sure there was something like that in my 11 plus exam in 1949. Not sure what the question would be though.
Yep go all out for Schumacher.
Buckingham not so sure, got quite lucky getting Oxford up and the same squad he had is now winning games in the Championship.
I head someone mention John Terry yesterday, pure speculation I expect.

I think you’re probably right. Particularly your last sentence.
So we're advertising now are we ?

I panicked then when I started reading your post and it pretty much started "we need a drum beater" !

Who was that potential replacement?

Can’t say, but he has been mentioned a few times on here.
Ashley Cole?
