Being involved in transfers and player recruitment is far more nuanced that “The owners will try to sign anyone I ask for without question” or “I have to play who I’m told”. It may be Matt wanted the former and Rob gave him that and Luton will again and the Ricicles were more inclined to suggest the data indicated certain needs and they and Matt could not agree in more cases than either party could live with. Sonny may have been a good fit for both. Smiles all round. Danish lads less so. Or maybe the Ricicles are hellspawn?
I’ll have carked it before Blooms, my life in football is published so I guess, unlike our ITKs, I’ll never know.
Listened to the interview. What an amazing club to join for him. Sorry last sarcastic thing he has to say that I know.
He clearly enjoyed recruitment. And this function was taken away from him at Wycombe. We are undergoing a massive recruitment programme at the moment across the academy and off the field. The owners and management group had a different recruitment structure in mind to what Matt wanted. He didn’t like it. He left to join a club that allowed him more input. What did I miss? I would have preferred him to slot in as he’s a great guy. But he felt he couldn’t and that’s cool too.
Haven't seen any players making comments yet. Although my reach on socials doesn’t go much beyond the Highways Agency these days
Indeed. I have unfollowed the group. Can't be bothered with it anymore. The usual whining about no respect and loyalty despite that same group trashing Matt whenever we hadn't won for a couple of games. Loyalty and respect is only ever a one-way street for them. I know that's hardly unique for football fans. Every club has some like these, but I have run out of patience with ours.
Didn't post much so it's not like I'll be missed 😄
Whilst there's an element of truth in this, if the players are being signed without Matt signing them off and he's ultimately responsible for results then something has to give.
What makes Rice or the owner a better judge of a player than a guy who's played the profession for 20 years?
I’ve been meaning to ask, and sorry to derail the thread, but as someone is probably the youngest person on the gasroom, why is it called the gasroom? I assume there’s a very valid reason but I have no idea what it is…
My interpretation of the Bloomfield 3CR interview was that there is anger within him that he’s kept locked away from the public eye for a long time and it’s come out in the biggest outburst Bloomfield can conjure up - a modest one. He is an excellent professional. Seems like something has gone very awry behind the scenes.
Indeed at least two sides to every story. I fail to understand why you have little sympathy for Matt, not that I think he was asking for nor expecting any from Wycombe?
I see the Gasroom as David Attenborough, respected and classy, while the Facebook Group is Gregg Wallace, annoying and not somewhere you'd leave the wife/girlfriend unaccompanied.
Bloomfield's answer to the question of what he has to say to Wycombe Wanderers supporters on his departure is open to interpretation, though you'd have to be naive to think there wasn't a hint or two of frustration from him that the footballing side wasn't being run in the manner he wanted and that this was a key reason for moving.
I have plenty of criticisms of the Couhigs though if they were still here and letting their appointment get on with running the football side of the club, I don't see Matt being tempted away by Luton.
Despite the disappointment, we've all eaten our words many times on here.
I'm reserving judgement until the end of the season when we either:
(a) get promoted and everything will be forgotten (Rice = hero)
(b) we make the playoffs and lose on a whimper, or miss out on the playoffs altogether. (Rice out)
On another note, as one of the genuinely nice guys in football, and of course a Wycombe legend, I hope this move works out for MB so he can show that he's a good manager. I think it's risky for Luton. He's unproven and not actually got much experience at all at that level, as a player or manager. Good luck Matt.

Data.
Come on, do keep up.

Spot on mate! I hope you post on here more often. It's an intoxicating mix of homespun wisdom and quotable insight!
of course!data tells us how a player will settle in. Any chance we could use data to identify new potential partners?
Hot air
Gasworks end
I'm in that crowd ! Top right somewhere

And of course "to gas" meaning to chat informally about a subject
Quite clever really
Who's the away team? Altrincham?

Clearly very deliberate that he keeps saying he feels wanted at Luton.
There's mainly old farts posting on here.

The best reason yet
Not sure that top suits him
Paternal granddad was the night watchman at those gasworks - back in the day when it was "Town Gas" - lived on Wendover Street.
Stress of Luton has already sent him grey.
You can really feel the anger inside him. Imagine not feeling wanted after everything he’s done for this club.
That speaks volumes. Absolutely fuming.

Yes, Altrincham. 2nd leg of the FA Trophy semi-final 81/82 season. Lost 3-0 at home after a 1-1 draw away.
That was before my time as a fan (Leytonstone/Ilford in '85 was my first game). Still miss that old ground though. Loved that place.
