We are all assuming that the new owners and management are the ones edging MB to the door. Could be that Dan is clutching Matt's leg as he drags it out the building.
But it feels like a considerable career risk to me at a relatively early stage. He could easily be sacked before the season ends if they drop into the bottom 3.
Hopefully he's getting a huge pay deal (I'm sure he is) to compensate for the risk.
A 100k release clause in his contract would suggest they've put out a massive neon sign saying "COME GET HIM PLEASE". I think the chance that Rice would like him to stay is as close to zero as possible. If this fucks up our season, it's on him.
Could be a very short term job for Matt. Luton’s primary reason for changing manager is to avoid relegation. He will have virtually no grace period to get his feet under the table, he’ll have to hit the ground running. If the squad don’t buy into his methods, the board will hit the panic button again. Best of luck to the boy.
@drcongo agreed. But the question we are all struggling with is will he/they care? Interesting to see who does get appointed and how long it takes the Wycombe faithful to get behind them.
Fingers crossed we still go up, so the hard, hard work of the first half of the season is not thrown out with the management team!
Your last sentence is probably the whole show - risk v reward.
If he if offered a significantly higher salary and a two year contract it really doesn't matter if he gets the sack in three months time. He could get the sack from his current job, WWFC, in six months time anyway with much less compensation.
I like to think he didn't want to leave but, in one of his recent interviews when asked what motivated him to get up each day at 4:30am he said "Providing for his wife and daughters". He can do that more effectively at Luton than Wycombe.
Thanks for everything Matt, good luck with your next job. Maybe we'll meet again next season - hopefully in The Championship.
Signed a new long term contract at Walsall last week after being linked with Championship clubs. Seems similar to Bloomfield with the opposite conclusion...
You do wonder if the lined up manager is danish considering all the danish players he may or not be lining up ! In all seriousness that is a possibility that someone in the background is identifying players for us connected closely to the data analysis. Matt was unfortunately an inconvenience hoping he would move on with a very heavy hint of the escape clause leaked.
The problem I suppose is the risk your reputation takes such a beating, you end up back at a League Two club with another £100,000 release clause.
I hope he negotiates a good severance package (which I assume GA did) if it does not work out.
I should add, I think MB is a good manager, who deserves his chance and he should keep them up. Good signing for Luton, the jury is out for us...which is a crying shame given our position. I hope it's a Rob Edwards style promotion rather than a Wayne Rooney takeover style collapse!
Yes, exactly. Quite hard to go home and say that you've turned a job on 3 times the money (or whatever it is), a longer contract and an hour off the commute.

Should clarify that I hope it works out for him.

That's part of the problem for some of us I think...the silence is deafening.
I've already told people, here's our new manager
You missed off our historic mastery of the dark arts and s#*t housery.

I drove through Luton once.
Never again.
Mat Sadler is a good shout.
Er, no.

Rice out.
Is there any substance to this '100k release clause' or is that a completely made-up figure as per?
I think it was a 'Football League World understands...' quote.
Supposedly confirmed in that football insider article.

Probably as reliable as Morley being available for 400-500k.
Football League World was the source I think.

A contract (and therefore release clause) that was negotiated by Couhig btw.
That's the one, thanks.
So will it be chants of "Rice Rice Baby" from the terrace or "Ricey is a w*nker" ???? time will tell I guess.

Schumacher would be the smart play
But they got it from us!
That's true but in reality it only comes down to assessing the job offer you have against either your current job or waiting for a "better" job.
Football management is such a lottery anyway.
Anyway as with GA, it would appear, MB is no longer our manager so we move forward. Never too high and never too low.
As someone once said "Football, f**king hell".
Are you suggesting Matt didn't want to sign a new contract?
