Could be more of an incentive to get promoted this year (or less of a disincentive I suppose) if the League One rules are moving closer to those in place in the Championship
My lose interpretation of ‘the plan’, such as it is, is that we would plough in the academy investment quickly in L1 to avoid these spending caps, then go on for a promotion push in full years 2 or 3.
If the restrictions are coming to L1, that might lead them to rush forward the spending to go for the Championship now.
Unlike a good chunk of our posters, I can’t claim any insider or industry knowledge.
I don’t think there is any proposed restriction on academy spending. In fact, the more you spend on the academy and associated infrastructure, the more you can spend on first team playing staff and wages.
Sounds more like they are limiting how much you can spend on transfers and wages.
This should help us in a couple of ways as it endures owners are also spending in the boring long term stuff like academies and roofs, potentially leaving something more permanent and sustainable behind if they do leave, and also hopefully turning the academy in to something that contributes to future income.
But also to discourage the worst examples of owners splashing the cash - as it needs to go in as equity & only 60% of that can be used for wages/transfer fees
Sadly I couldn't go to the Bolton game as it was my works Christmas do, (tbh I would rather have been at the match). A mate of mine used my season ticket and one of his post match comments was that the smell of weed was almost overpowering down Hillbottom Road! Apparently he was amazed he wasn't as high as a kite by the time he arrived at the match! 🙄
As I walked to the match a car drove past to park in the top car park and the smell of weed was incredible. I'm sure the driver was completely straight though, officer. As I work in that London, the number of people of all sorts who walk past reeking of soft drugs is quite alarming for a chap of my vintage. It's the way it it nowadays I suppose...
Yep, it's worrying how quickly you can identify that smell even if you've never come close to touching it either.
Although the Bolton game was a weird one. They'd replaced the usual "yellow" vest slightly higher authority steward in my block with some young girl "orange" vest. And she stood literally metres from a whole row of blokes not just smashing pints down, but had them all lined up on the wall in front of row 1. Obviously didn't know the rules and probably wouldn't have had a clue about how to deal with it either.
That and 2 blokes just wandering up the steps holding their pints, made me wonder if they'd changed the rules overnight!
Club have got to be really careful with that or they'll lose their licence, although I'm sure the woman sat next me at the Bolton game took one of those pre-mixed M&S cocktail cans out of her handbag. Quite classy tbf.
I was taken aback as in 15 or more years in the Frank Adams i've only ever once seen a coupe of blokes bring pints in. But they were almost instantly apprehended.
But there were a lot of clearly johnny come once a season types along for this game.
There were a lot of younglings in tabards there who would probably feel they were not being paid enough to face off with drunken adults. They do ensure an old git has taken the lid off his Coke Zero though. 😊
Are you sure it wasn't non alcohol? I've taken to drinking Guiness zero at my golf club. One day recently I had three pints and as I was leaving I heard someone say "he's over the limit to drive"

Maybe we can fix the roof if they have to spend some money on infrastructure!
Actually the new rules may not be too bad for us from an owner invest viewpoint, as ML has been investing millions in the academy.
Doesn’t the academy count towards football investment?
Yes exactly. From what I understand from the statement it seems that way.

There is currently no restrictions on what clubs at our level can spend on their academy.
Exactly, but there may now be next year.
That would be the death knell to ALL academies outside the Premier League so can't see it happening.

Absolutely, it appears to me to be designed to encourage:
net profit from player development & sales - i.e. a successful academy
increasing matchday revenues - bigger crowds, better facilities, better experience etc.
increasing sponsorship & advertising revenues
But also to discourage the worst examples of owners splashing the cash - as it needs to go in as equity & only 60% of that can be used for wages/transfer fees
Talking of roofs - several of us were dripped on in the Frank Adams stand last night - the first time this has happened in our area.
The problem is getting worse.
Definitely the roof, and not the strangely high amount of people flouting the no alcohol in sight of the pitch rule?
Anyone else notice that? Row 1 had about 6 blokes lining them up, yards from a marshal. Very odd.
As were a few lads wandering up the steps booze in hand.

I followed three stewards in to the ground at 5.30. They were all smoking weed
Didn't they offer you a joint! Obviously haven't got the festive spirit yet.
As high as (red) kites
Posted something else in this thread and have edited that but no idea how to delete the post completely. And I haven’t smoked anything.

Do they serve non-alcoholic pints in plastic glasses in the serving portals of the Frank Adams?
I didn't think you were even allowed to drink non-alc stuff in the stands over here?
OK, maybe you can, but can we all just take a moment to appreciate the main picture for the Wikipedia page 'Alcohol in association football'
I hate to imagine what the photo would be for the Wiki page 'cocaine in association football'
It's just the toilets at Adams Park
