Could be more of an incentive to get promoted this year (or less of a disincentive I suppose) if the League One rules are moving closer to those in place in the Championship
My lose interpretation of ‘the plan’, such as it is, is that we would plough in the academy investment quickly in L1 to avoid these spending caps, then go on for a promotion push in full years 2 or 3.
If the restrictions are coming to L1, that might lead them to rush forward the spending to go for the Championship now.
Unlike a good chunk of our posters, I can’t claim any insider or industry knowledge.
I don’t think there is any proposed restriction on academy spending. In fact, the more you spend on the academy and associated infrastructure, the more you can spend on first team playing staff and wages.
Sounds more like they are limiting how much you can spend on transfers and wages.
This should help us in a couple of ways as it endures owners are also spending in the boring long term stuff like academies and roofs, potentially leaving something more permanent and sustainable behind if they do leave, and also hopefully turning the academy in to something that contributes to future income.
But also to discourage the worst examples of owners splashing the cash - as it needs to go in as equity & only 60% of that can be used for wages/transfer fees

Maybe we can fix the roof if they have to spend some money on infrastructure!
Actually the new rules may not be too bad for us from an owner invest viewpoint, as ML has been investing millions in the academy.
Doesn’t the academy count towards football investment?
Yes exactly. From what I understand from the statement it seems that way.

There is currently no restrictions on what clubs at our level can spend on their academy.
Exactly, but there may now be next year.
That would be the death knell to ALL academies outside the Premier League so can't see it happening.

Absolutely, it appears to me to be designed to encourage:
net profit from player development & sales - i.e. a successful academy
increasing matchday revenues - bigger crowds, better facilities, better experience etc.
increasing sponsorship & advertising revenues
But also to discourage the worst examples of owners splashing the cash - as it needs to go in as equity & only 60% of that can be used for wages/transfer fees
Talking of roofs - several of us were dripped on in the Frank Adams stand last night - the first time this has happened in our area.
The problem is getting worse.
Definitely the roof, and not the strangely high amount of people flouting the no alcohol in sight of the pitch rule?
Anyone else notice that? Row 1 had about 6 blokes lining them up, yards from a marshal. Very odd.
As were a few lads wandering up the steps booze in hand.
