I thought Kone's hold up play was fantastic last night. He's really developed over the course of this season. I recall the first game away at Wrexham, wondering if he was really capable of leading the line on his own. Now he's able to consistently make the ball stick at his feet.
There's also great variety to his game. Enough speed and strength to carry the ball when required. Good feet in tight spaces. Plus some lovely touches and vision to link-up with other players, even in situations where he looks isolated.
It must be such a handful for defenders as he offers a variety of different threats.
Remarkably for someone with so many goals already this season I think he's still got a bit of work to do on his finishing, however.
As for the rest of the game, we did pretty well and probably should have picked up a 1-0 win. Bakinson's header or the chance Humphrey's passed to Lubala in the first half could easily have led to a goal. Likewise, inn the second half we had quite a few decent chances from the edge of the box, or shots from balls that came across the goal quickly.
I was quite impressed with our high line. Bolton looked to have some decent pace and movement up front. Once or twice it looked like we could get caught out by a quick ball hooked over the top. Taylor and Low are just so dominant physically that they're able to tidy up almost all of those balls, while still holding a line high up the pitch. Provides a brilliant platform for the rest of the team when we have such a reliable pair who can repeatedly snuff out attacks and turn them into possession, rather than just clearing out of play or lumping it back down the pitch.
Nonetheless, it is hard to escape the feeling the form has just come off the boil slightly I think. Scowen's absence is clearly a huge factor. With a run of difficult fixtures coming up in a very short space of time we could really do with him back ASAP.
Some harsh criticism, we have a good squad but Scowen, Harvie and Morley are arguably our best 3 players, most teams miss that , and even so we were the better team.
As much as anything else we need to be more ruthless up front to take advantage of numerous chances. I wonder if there are any finishers on blooms January wish list. I'm sure Bez, Fred and the king can deliver as well and that will be needed.
That Humphreys pass btw had a bit of Sherringham Euro 96 about it. He's very special, let's get people round him and let him shine. Wish him a great career wherever he plays.
Yep, utterly hilarious arrogance to think he can make an opinion on "management style" from 1 game, for a team top of the league, leading the score charts. What a berk.
Bucks Free Press have their own take on our home form following the Bolton game.
I think we need to invest heavily in some wider goalposts.
In the club’s 28th and final home game of 2024 in all competitions, in which they won 18 times at Adams Park, the Chairboys failed to register a league goal in 25 games – a run that dates back to April.
Strange comment to make about one of the top scoring teams in the country. With goals coming from all around the pitch. Don't think I've ever seen a Wycombe team that are more willing to take responsibility. Everyone looking for the ball, confident playing out from the back. Easy to criticise a player for not taking a shot...I did it in that instance. But not always easy to see how clear a shot on goal they had. Can't remember the three players involved. But I'm sure it wasn't a case of abdicating responsibility, at worst it was poor decision making. Guess they thought maybe incorrectly the player they were passing to would have a better chance of scoring.
It's a shame we couldn't have taken the win last night as that would have completed what seems to have been a good, although very long, trip for you.
We should have told you to avoid Bicester Village, it's really set up for tourists who flock their by bus and train loads from London. A lots of the designer stuff is actually made specifically for sale there and only appears at higher prices in other outlets to comply with "sale" terms.
The problem being that as local papers have no sub-editors anymore and journalists are required to write hundreds of words against the clock errors are going to be made.
But it's not just mistakes; it's a consistently awful command of the English language. There was a headline the other week about the storm 'reeking' havoc. It's embarrassing.
What's also not great is showing the PA match report - I assume Newsquest, who own the BFP, have a PA deal à la BBC, Sky etc, as I've noticed this numerous times this season - but with your reporter's name in the byline. That's basic stuff.

Huddersfield away in our penultimate game could be a very big game!
I think whatever fixture list you're looking at is a bit out! Huddersfield away is on 22 March.

22nd March is international weekend so I doubt it’ll get played then (if I remember correctly)

Nice to see Chelsea still have a "permission to fail" culture after spending billions. Must be nice!
I like that it seems a big surprise they're in the thick of the title race even though they've spent absolutely unprecedented levels of wad.
Replay confirms a clear penalty in the first half.
Don't Chelsea and arrogance go hand in hand?
I dare say they've got absolutely 100s and 100s of hangers on who quote the "Chelsea" badge as if it means they know what's what too.
And racism, to complete the throuple.
The Referee/linesman absolutely bottled that. Anywhere else on the pitch and it’s a free kick, no question.
It was this one. I ignored the date. My bad.
Chances of the Birmingham and Huddersfield aways kicking off 3pm on a Saturday have to be miniscule don't they. Sure fire tv picks.

Or some better local journalists.

I also thought the referee had an absolute shocker
Finally something we can all agree on.
He was one of those refs who wanted to be the centre of attraction. The ref certainly slowed the game down and broke up any flow.
Thanks, I don't think we'll be heading back anytime soon!
How on earth does that happen? Typos I can understand. But that is so far from anything even resembling the truth.
The problem being that as local papers have no sub-editors anymore and journalists are required to write hundreds of words against the clock errors are going to be made.
At last someone who understands how local newspapers work.

I assume it's Chat GPT at work - we've all seen how accurate it is at forecasting match day attendances.
Chat GPT would form coherent sentences
