33 points from 26 remaining games will see us in the playoffs-offs. I know that seems a bit negative but just trying to emphasis that our run of 44 points from 20 games, has given us a brilliant platform to achieve something special.
Bang on Blue, we’re nothing like the side of last season, too many square pegs in round holes, no creative players and bound by Evatt’s awful play it our from the back system, although last night just a big hoof forward was more the case and we just don’t have forwards to play that way. None of Charles, Collins, McAtee or Adeboyejo are target men and none can hold the ball up for the others so we never get the best from them. So you can probably see from last night why most want him gone, we’re just going backwards yet he’s unwilling to change? As for you I thought you probably missed Morley’s passing game, you seemed all about banging high balls into our box instead of working the ball through, stretching our makeshift defence and then crossing with your strikers in position but then what do I know? I still think you’ve more than enough for the automatics and if you can sign Morley permanently in January so much the better. Since we’ve no chance of automatics now good luck for the rest of the season and keep beating those we’re fighting for a play off place. Up the Wanderers, both of them. 😁
Interesting reading through the comments. Like one or two have said I never come out the ground thinking the referee was shocking and it was his fault we never won, yes he got a few things wrong (which ref doesn't) and I definitely thought he would of added a few more minute's on at the end, however I was more disappointed with our set pieces, especially first half.
Thought our fullbacks defended OK but never really offered anything going forward. We we're wasteful in the final third and thought we could of brought another striker on and went for it. However we looked solid and until the final minute we looked like the only team who was trying to win the game.
Be nice to pick up at least 4 points in the next 2 away games and set us up nicely for the 3 home league games we have in a week.
Good day with the kids, Bicester village was a waste of time really. Was hoping to pick up a Wycombe blanket from the club shop for Ellis to use with his chair but they've sold out. Hopefully we get more in stock and I can grab one at the Huddersfield game, with the kids back in school I'll probably just come down with Ellis.
Thought it was a nice touch with the kids writing out Christmas cards in the Vere for the players. Even the little table football was good. Kept the girls entertained after the match whilst we waited for the traffic to die down. Ended up getting home at 2.15am.
why ? I say it from my perspective, Blooms has done an absolutely incredible job and the squad is sensational , players like Pattenden have stepped up massively , however do not get the obsession with many of the posters on Leahy , a couple of nice FKs that all he offers, Bakinson is another who has turned things around and makes a positive impact on the team. Leahy would be good to bring on for 10 mins with Vokes but defo not as a starter ....I would love to see what many posters see when they see leahy play.....apart from him being a throughly decent human
Still trying to work out how I I feel about last nights result. Obviously by some metrics one of the most disappointing results of the season, but good to get something out of a game with no Harvie, Scowen and Morley.
We need to do whatever we can to get the players Blooms needs in January. Promotion this season could change the club forever.
Had the pleasure of hosting John Gorman at the game last night and he was complimentary about how we played with a couple of minor criticisms, pretty much reflecting what the majority of posters have written in this thread. I thought Bolton defended very well and we lacked some imagination and variety in our attacking play, unusual for us this season. I also thought the referee had an absolute shocker.
Agree with the comments about Leahy, his deliveries were poor. I think Bakinson (?) took a couple of corners in the first half that were also flat and easily defended at the near post. Hartridge put in a solid display but had that good opportunity to cross that ballooned behind the goal and into the terrace. Sums up the difference a player like Harvie makes. It just wasn’t our night but no dreadful mistakes or individual performances. Get the first teamers back and possibly strengthen again in Jan and top 6 minimum looks very realistic.
There's a clear group of 4 emerging - us, Birmingham, Wrexham and Huddersfield. I think we'll be part of that scrap for the rest of the season. Expecting Birmingham to pull clear and 2nd to be up for grabs amongst the 3 remaining sides. Play offs might seem like a scant consolation if we run it close...
You only have to look at Leahy's goals and assists stats to see what he brings to the team. He so often provides big moments for us in games.
I don't particularly like comparing players, but if we are going to compare to Bakinson, I think that Bakinson offers greater control in midfield than Leahy, but Leahy offers much more attacking threat. He may not be in our first choice midfield 3, but he's a great back up option to have.
Has your Chelsea mate seen the other 40+ goals we've scored this season, and run of league games where we scored 2 or more in every game. Nonsense to make a judgment on the management style based on a 0-0 where it sounds like the other team parked the bus, but could equally snatch something from the game at 0-0. There has to be a level of responsibility when protecting a 17 games unbeaten run.
First things first we have been superb this season , last night just proved that although we have strength in the squad maybe some of the backups just not cutting it . 2/3 quality players in jan could still see as going up automatically if not the playoffs is still a great season. Signing morley is a must if Bolton look like taking him back .

Playoffs
I said much the same to the referee on many occasions last night.

Last night was a reminder of how lucky we were to have Joe Jacobson take set-pieces for so many years.
Luke Leahy’s set-pieces really were absolutely appalling last night.
they are always appalling, apart from when he is central from 20 years out...we cannot keep him in the ream for just that
@Konetheming one post on your hate figure per thread will be fine.
Evatt doesn’t fit at a club like Bolton Wanderers. You certainly deserve much better than him at Bolton. He is more suited to someone like Stevenage.
Is Konetheming another one of Trevor's sock puppets?
why ? Leahy is better at left wing back but unlikely to get a regular spot in the side in that position, as Harvie is outstanding.
Fair enough & apologies
I think Leahy is a solid enough CM but is a better LB, I also agree with you that his set pieces particularly corners have deteriorated recently
@Konetheming 👆
Bit hard on Stevenage that Blue what have they ever done to deserve him? 🤣

They have previously employed such delightful characters as Graham Westley and Steve Evans tbf
And kicked the shit out of us last year followed by some unsavoury comments when Leahy was seemingly unconscious on the pitch for a good few minutes.
Was that the match where the guy suplexed Brandon too?
It was.

I hope top 6 minimum is doable whatever we do!
Not making top 6 from this position would be a pretty monumental collapse
Exactly, get the top boys back and make inspired signings and you'd hope top 2 is the aim
