As "talks" (if they exist) will only stall until the court case is concluded, I would like your views/ comments. Is Rob Couhig someone who would be determined to carry the case all the way to the highest court, even though it could mean the end of the club. do you think he is hoping the club goes into administration soon, so he can buy it at a knockdown price. Or as one or two of you have said in the past (jokingly?), It's all a ploy to get his own back on the reaction Royals supporters over the sale Bearwood to him? Would he care if my club has to sell off our better players in January, even though we are under an embargo and only able to replace them from the academy?
Rob Couhig's legal claim in the High Court against Dai (Redwood vs Renhe) has been publicised. Had a skim through it and here are some key points...
Chiron as the takeover party officially switched to Redwood on 19 April
Exclusivity was first extended to 21 May, then to 31 July, then to 15 August
Between 25 March and 9 August, Redwood made nine loans to #ReadingFC, for the total of £4.655m "or thereabouts"
Redwood state, as part of the case that exclusivity wasn't honoured...
"In early May 2024 or thereabouts, Renhe or persons acting on a document headed 'Reading FC-Investment Opportunity Incredible immediate opportunity to acquire the club for a fraction of its worth'. The said document invited a "Submission of Letter of Intent & Proof of Funds (£45m) to the club by 22 May 2024".
Redwood's case essentially seems to boil down to this:
"Renhe's breach of the Exclusivity Provisions in the [Letter of Intent] has caused Redwood the loss of a chance to acquire Renhe's shares in Reading FC. It is Redwood's case that the chance of acquiring the shares in Reading FC from Renhe (but for Renhe's breach of contract) was at least 50%. Redwood reserves the right to argue at trial that the lost chance was significantly higher than 50%. If it be determined at trial that Redwood's chance of acquiring the shares in Reading FC from Renhe was a percentage more or less than 50%, then Redwood claims damages accordingly."
"Redwood has therefore lost at least 50%" of potential financial returns.
Redwood say that, because of the phrase "fraction of its worth" being used in the previously referred-to doc, it's "uncontroversial that the potential profits to be made [from a sale of Reading FC] were substantial".
Redwood estimate profits in the region of £24m, or in their words: "Redwood would realistically have achieved a sale price on exit of approximately double what it would have paid for Reading FC."
Therefore, to oversimplify, because of their apparent 50% likelihood of buying the club, Redwood want £12m (plus costs, fees etc).
It has never been wise to ascribe motives to Rob Couhig beyond what he himself has very carefully put into the public domain. Best to simply take him at his word. He entered into terms with Dai Yongge and those terms were not honoured, he is now seeking redress just like businessfolk in general and lawyers in particular tend to do. Since Reading FC are not owned by him they are not his responsibility, they are the responsibility of the owner and there lies the blame for this whole sorry affair.
ps - well done for vilifying the guy who seems to now be a key figure in the club's survival. Great work.
Rob C can be criticised about fireworks, cheerleaders, the toilets, the fabric of the building and not opening his checkbook for The Player, but on the whole he did alright for us. He obviously wanted a bigger plaything, but he did us more good than harm in my opinion. If Dai has played him false, he's got a right to ask for his money back and even if he gets the club at a knockdown price as a result it will be better for them than more Yongge surely.
Agreed, and he also stuck by Blooms when so few owners would have - though having watched the documentary where he says managers do not matter like fans think they do, I am wondering if he really just sees things that way!

It is the way of the world but it doesn’t mean I have to like it.
However, he did sell our club to ML and that is proving to be a super move for the club. I am very impressed with the new organisation and especially Dan Rice.

Wow, whilst these two millionaires try to score points over each other, a legendary club is on the verge of going out of business.
I think Rob's point scoring is to force the sale of the club to him.
This at present is still Readings best hope of survival in the short term.

To be honest, if someone made death threats to members of my family I would not see the survival of their club as top of my to-do list anyway.
