Don’t know if this is a positive or negative but at the moment there is not one player certain of a starting spot in our side, quite a change on previous seasons.
I thought hartridge was signed as our left back as replacement for JJ... is that not his typical role or what he is used to playing? I'm sure when he signed everyone was saying he was the jj replacement?? No?
Throughout last year, we realised that we don't like / can't play with 3 at the back so why have a few listed it as our strongest formation?! Also, please can we NOT have Fred in a wing-back formation!!!?? Yes, he played well in the championship but for Luton, he never played there and didn't play there in the Premier League last season. Lets stick with where our players can perform their best at people!
It's funny isn't it, that we think Scowen is being played "out of position". I mainly blame Makelele for being so good, and more recently Pep for being so regimented tactically - but what happened to the days when you were just a "midfielder". Box to box, one stays, one goes. There aren't many of those anymore.
Lol yeah I get your mentality. However the game has evolved and we neither have Makelele playing for us or Pep managing us. Scowen is excellent doing Scowen.... we need to let him do Scowen stuff?!
Hes one of... if not our best player...
Hes coming into his later years as a player. Just let him do his thing and stop playing about with his position no?
True that on paper we have a good squad, the loan players seem to add to the depth of the group, unlike some of the loanees last season. But we shall have to see how the squad gels, also that the players are chosen in formations that bring out the best in them. The difference in approach between Southgate and Carsley is a case in point.
Hopefully Bloomfield will choose the Carsley route.
As regards Fred, he did not sparkle every game in the past, he may not be the great signing some people are thinking. But if he does perform it will bring the extra pace on the wings that we are missing at the moment.
On the ‘Fred not sparkling in every game’ tangent (and I will add that I think it is a great signing!) I remember bringing my daughters to the last home game of the Southend play-off season and them actually laughing at how poor Fred was that day. They were right - he had a nightmare.
I’ve had to check back and it was (almost inevitably) Morecambe and we lost to a late goal. What I hadn’t remembered was that if we had won that game we would have had a fighting chance of automatic promotion that year.

@Midlander All of the players you’ve mentioned have only played left-back in extremis or experiment.
They’re also the only reasons they’d play there for us this season, and would only weaken the defence / team further.
I think Hartridge is a genuine left back option. I don’t think he was an experiment v Swansea.
Harvie is clearly first choice but if he doesn’t perform he will be out.

Errr - Scowen.......
I don’t think even Scowen can now be considered a certain starter with the talent alongside him.
Possibly not this season. He hasn’t hit the heights yet, partly because he has played out of his usual more defensive position.
I don’t think it’s time to even question Scowen
Still the best player we have at the club. Always gives 100%.
I don't care who we have signed... Scowen is 1st name on the sheet

I think you’re thinking of Harvie
I must be

I think Hartidge was signed as Forino's replacement but the club & player couldn't announce that he was leaving at the point he was signed
Totally agree. We played wing backs when we were up against it in the championship. And yes Fred worked well there.
But I don't see any reason at all to waste Fred there when he could be one of the best out and out wide attackers in the league.

Down voting this as you can't mix First names and Surnames on a team sheet. If you start with one, you need to follow it through #confusing!
Be glad he didn't throw a couple of nicknames in too.
Fred's Fred.
