EFL TROPHY FINAL

  • You’d expect more from this prestigious fenland city.

  • They're saving themselves ahead of a return visit for the playoffs next month. Bit more at stake for that one.

Bloomfield should print off copies of Swann’s piece and hand them out to the squad before kick off.

  • That's for the EFL & FA to worry about. We don't play anything towards the running costs as both teams are visiting / neutral

  • The costs of hire of Wembley will be deducted from gate receipts before distribution to competing clubs. So will VAT.

  • Absolutely (side note, does the final have VAR to ruin a last minute handball offside winner?)

  • VAR is NOT being used.

  • The front page of today’s BFP. A complete and utter disgrace.

  • Excellent Wembley focused Pre-Match Drills on WanderersTV this week - free to view too. Has got me buzzing for the weekend.

One thing stood out for me is that Max was featured prominently and looked very happy doing his promotional photos. No sign of Franco at all.

Is it a sign, or mind games?!?!

Joking aside, what does stand out (again) is what a fine bunch of personalities we have in our squad. And in a season that’s been less than perfect, it’s good to get a sense of genuine togetherness and joy from them all.

  • Hear hear

And the older I get the more important that is to me

  • Completely agree

  • Isn't the front page of the BFP always a disgrace?

  • (But yeah, I agree)

  • Free fruit at low cost supermarket v the local football team's first ever professional cup final?

  • If people have time and/or the inclination, I suggest they email the editor of the BFP to convince them that the appetite for news and enthusiastic support of the area’s football club is a lot greater than they seem to realise. If 15,000 people have bought tickets for Wembley that suggests their editorial judgement is somewhat flawed.

  • Is katie.french@newsquest.co.uk the best email address Alan?

  • Did they make @glasshalfempty the guest editor this week? At least that would make sense.

Putting aside ignoring the Wembley trip entirely, that lead article has come straight from Aldi’s junior press officer.

    Observations:

Did someone look at the accompanying photo and think it elevated the piece in any way?

Does store manager Stuart have a surname?

Did someone forget the ‘Advertising Feature’ banner?

Was there any need to mention the ‘Super 6 ‘fruit and veg range?

Paralympian star finally named in the 4th paragraph!

’30 colleagues from the local community’ - yay, it’s an independent community small business, not a giant European supermarket chain.

  • That promotional photo day occurred some weeks ago and possibly before Max was dropped

  • Mmmmmm ... Radhuni.

  • I think so but I had dealings with the previous editor who left and I now deal directly with James Richings who is in charge of the sports output.

  • Local news is dead. The editor is probably responsible for Newsquest titles across the whole of the South East.

Up here in Nottingham, I was surprised on reading The Post to discover that Alison Hammond, Kate Garraway, Martin Lewis, The Hairy Bikers, Paul O’Grady, Naga Munchetty, Coleen Nolan and Holly Willoughby were all local residents.

Until I realised they just packed it with regurgitated shite from The Mirror.

Major fail for James in this weeks’ editorial meeting.

  • Maybe the store manager is one of these Brazilian footballers that seem to have increasingly old-fashioned English names.

  • How many times did Luke Leahy say "mate" in his short interview with @bluntphil?! It looks like there is a proper broamnce going on between Luke and Dale. It's going to be a sad day when Taylor returns to Forest......

  • "Canoe gold winner to hand out fruit" is absolutely top notch Local News for Local People.

  • Gawd blimey...I can understand sometimes that finding interesting local events to write about can be hard...but a trip to Wembley for the local team which has been on the cards for a couple of weeks at least is surely five pages worth of copy right there...and football fans might shell out £1.60!

  • I still have the Bucks Free Press specials from our Wembley trips in the 90's.

The paper really supported Wycombe back then and I actually purchased it as a result. They should maybe consider the whole cause and effect thing

  • Haven't bought a printed newspaper in years tbh but a Cup Final special is the sort of thing that would make me consider it if passing.

Just for reference if you go to their awful excuse for a website you'd get RSI (in addition to the usual spyware , ads and blockers) scrolling down far enough to find the Sports section and the game isn't mentioned any higher up.

  • Is this the owner of our swan by any chance?
