Wycombe Wanderers: among the least searched-for football shirts

Disappointing news in my inbox...

A new study has revealed the least in-demand football shirts in the UK, with the Hull City kit taking the top spot.

While Manchester United, Liverpool, and Arsenal dominate the popularity charts, teams like Hull City struggle to garner attention for their shirts.

The research, conducted by football shirt retailer UKSoccerShop, used Google Keyword Planner to analyse nationwide searches for the shirts of teams within the Premier and Championship League over the last five years - identifying the football clubs with the least enthusiastic fans.

Hull City ranks the least popular, with only 2,120 searches for their team shirt in 2023. Despite their efforts on the field, Hull City faces challenges in drawing interest towards their shirts, indicating a disconnect between the club and its fan base.

Following Hull City, in second place is Rotherham United's football shirts. The club's kit also struggled to capture fan attention, with only 2,640 searches throughout 2023. The club is clearly facing an uphill battle in competing for fan interest amidst more prominent teams in the league.

Peterborough United similarly grappled with low search numbers for their shirts, with 2,700 searches in 2023. Their relegation in the 2021/22 season hasn't helped their popularity, revealing their shirts as the third least popular in the UK.

Wycombe Wanderers' shirts also ranked among the least sought-after, with a modest 3,450 searches recorded in 2023, ranking fourth. The club's popularity from their 2020/21 stint in the Championship League was evidently short-lived.

Preston North End faced similar struggles in generating interest for their football shirts, with only 3,630 searches in 2023. The club's low ranking, as the fifth least popular shirt, is surprising given their consistent position in the Championship League since 2015.
