Having family in Barrow, I can confirm they have most definitely been to Wembley....a year before us in 1990 and more recently. I remember the 1990 final having a page in the 1991 programme but can't remember where it is
Leek Town. I remember a 5-5 draw (cup replay - FA trophy I think) there back in the eighties played on a pitch that made last night’s look like a bowling green
I love these kind of threads. Starts off with The Annual Warboys Lecture to Wycombe Wanderers Football Club, then morphs into 'Wembley trips I've known and loved', via the London Fives, and 'Wembley trips that never were', to a splendidly random memory of Leek Town from January 1986, and with the 'fil rouge' of @flymofrank trying to get the record for the most drawn-out sub-discussion. Just needs @micra to pop up with the cricket score now...
I was very nervous about tuning in to the overnight recording of the Test Match. I watched the first 9 overs but other activities (like breakfast) intervened. I shall return to it shortly, still nervous, but it has to be done!
Can’t risk staying on line and seeing comments. TV on mute until recording located - number of times Sod’s Law has led to the match being mentioned on some unlikely channel etc etc. just as I’ve switched on.
Must admit I was deflated when I turned on the phone this morning to see the score (test match) so much so I avoided looking again for hours, only to be delighted to see how we ended up !
I remember an old boy saying to me years ago about Shane Warne "Appreciate watching him now, as he's special and there won't be another like him for some time" . Well I kind of think a little bit like that about Joe Root now, he's so good we really do need to be thankful, and cherish him while we've got him.
Sorry.. nothing to do with which end we get at Wembley I've just realised
I don't understand the end argument whatsoever. Yes, the west is fractionally closer to the station, but it's like a two-minute walk between the two ends...
Besides, anyone who was at the Southend or Sunderland finals will know that Chiltern Railways couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery and that it's far easier to go to Wembley Park.
I don't think you can get a train from Aylesbury to Wembley Stadium without changing at Princes Risborough - so you'll end up on a Wycombe train anyway.
If you live in Wycombe it'd be pretty ridiculous to make an hour round trip to Aylesbury though wouldn't it. Not to mention the extra time on the train as well.

Oh maybe. I thought it was the women's Euro year.
Why Ashton Gate out of interest? Strikes me as not only unglamorous but also geographically inconvenient!
I can't remember why they did it. Mind you, not particularly inconvenient for the other team in the final: Torquay!

Trophy final 2010?
They beat Leek Town 3 nil in 1990 from memory. Their second was more recent I think

Neil Warnock their manager?
It was in June 2021 so restricted capacity as lockdown restrictions began to ease.
Ah, it would have clashed with the Euros then. Still doesn't explain why they played it in Bristol.

it's a really good stadium with the appropriate capacity?

It’s a hard life !
@micra You never disappoint...!!
Hope you are enjoying that gutsy innings from Rooooooooooooot 😀

Apparently, the good news is that we are getting the West end (nearer the station).
The bad news is that we are the designated 'away' team, so won't be playing in the blue quarters.

It might be a two-minute walk for a young whippersnapper like you, assuming that you don't trip over your umbilical cord.
But for us old geezers, it's like the London Marathon, except with a stop for a fag half way there.
After the Sunderland game I got a text from a young mate saying he was already back in Stokenchurch.
Whilst I was miles deep in a really unregulated queue miles from any prospect of a train.
That wasn't a great moment.
It was peak Worbs.
Just needed his signature "what a missed opportunity" stamp.
Last time I drove and paid to park on a driveway…pretty straightforward as we got there quite early to enjoy the pre-match party.
ended up surrounded by Sunderland fans most of the time…grrrr
You have to consider that most people queueing for the train want to go to Wycombe. Loooooong queue guaranteed.
So pick a queue that goes to Aylesbury and drive there to catch the train to Wembley beforehand.
Oh shit now I've given away my "cheat".
I don't think you can get a train from Aylesbury to Wembley Stadium without changing at Princes Risborough - so you'll end up on a Wycombe train anyway.
My group bailed and got the Met line back to Chalfont & Latimer in the end
Get the tube from Amersham, miles easier, and cheaper

Assume they all left on the 2nd goal 😋
Yeah, it's about 3 quid
Or drive to Uxbridge and get the tube
Or join the short Oxford queue at the far end of the concourse and get off when it stops at Wycombe
Woops that’s two hacks given away
