Beginning of the season I said if we were playing well with effort and passion with a system the players understand by March and we’re mid table it would be a good season. I really thought that ship had sailed during the Fleetwood game but here we, more or less, are. And a chance of a big day out at Wembley as well.
We came close to a very good result today. But a point is OK. This time next week, if we have a cup win and 3 points in the bag it will look pretty bloody good.
Not a lot to ponder about on the game for me. Bez’s miss will annoy me for sure. The big takeaway for me is the selection going forward.
We are clearly starting to favour KVY as left back and grimmer at RB, hard to disagree. What we gonna do with Butcher, Scowen and Leahy then? To me they are starters but we can’t play all three especially with Potts in the side. Taylor, despite his lack of goals, is looking more worthy but is he the sacrifice for Leahy?
Just need it to click for someone and to get some goals.
Probably Bill Cleere who I believe was still refereeing Sunday football well into his sixties (and possibly beyond). I think he is 91 now and not in the best of health but still gets to Adam’s Park occasionally.
I’d not heard of Ron Cleere. Was he Bill’s brother?
I was disappointed with the subs coming off yesterday but it makes sense in the context of the games we have coming thick and fast and the high press approach we are now using.
Scowen - Not played for weeks and will need to get match fit
Potts - Possible slight knock
McCleary - Can’t run for 90 mins in a high press.
Sadlier - Looked tired when subbed off.
Lubala - Could have played the whole 90 but Kone is arguably a bigger threat.
Wednesday should be interesting. Bradford are quite happy to concede possession for quick breaks and lumping it up to Cook.
We will not need to play the high press, I suspect Vokes will start and we will mix up the starters from yesterdays game
As soon as I arrived at the ground yesterday, and walked past the area where the players park their cars, I noticed that Vokes' Audi SV09KES wasn't there, so I knew he wouldn't be in the squad. I tend to agree with @drcongo that he offers little value these days, and will be used as a bit part player with 10-15 minute cameos.
However, Lubala and Kone really need to start banging in some goals, we should have been out of sight by half time against a very poor Oxford.
Maybe Vokes will start against Bradford, with either Kone or Lubala coming on later. but Kone should start against Stevenage next Saturday, to take advantage of the excellent service provided by Sadlier.
Yes, both refs and loved their football. Mind you I was on the wrong end of a few red cards from Bill during my Saturday and Sunday football adventures.
Shit. I've left my car park permit at home and there's that hotshot carpark lawyer staring at my parking spot. I'll just hang back until he goes into the ground before I park the Vokeswagen.
''hotshot carpark lawyer'' - I'll take that as a compliment.
I've helped over 300 motorists to defend court claims from private parking companies, with an overall success rate of 81% for Defendants. That's a pretty good xD.
So we go from theres no-one to replace (insert midfield player here) if he gets injured to...can't see how (insert midfield player here) gets into the team.
You could but I wouldn’t. I’m still not totally convinced by KVY as a left back but he’s shown flashes of genius (witness that run and fierce shot against Peterborough) and has the pace and skill to unsettle defences wherever he plays. I don’t think he’s reached his full potential for us yet. I think Leahy is better defensively than him.
With Potts and Taylor obviously leaving at end of season, Butcher and Leahy see us in a lot better midfield shape for next season, no matter how much they play over the next 14 games.
There was no smear implied or stated. I simply assumed that, as he wasn't involved in the matchday squad, he had taken a rare opportunity to have a Saturday off.
The fact that he was there signing autographs etc demonstrates a commendable level of commitment to the team effort.

In Blooms I should have trusted.

We subbed off Sadlier because Chem Campbell is pretty much guaranteed to play every game…allegedly

A fit Scowen is a first choice for me, Oxford were only able to put any passes together and pressure us after he was subbed .
But you are right about the other two.

Cook isn’t available for Bradford on Wednesday, he’s suspended

That’s odd.
My nephew had a party in the tunnel club yesterday and Sam was one of the first players in there having photos and doing signings.
Maybe he’s got an injury that stops him driving?
Yes, both refs and loved their football. Mind you I was on the wrong end of a few red cards from Bill during my Saturday and Sunday football adventures.
I saw him driving (well, queueing) on his way out of the ground after the game. So he was there, complete with personalised number plate
I stand corrected then, but his car was not in its usual spot at 1:45. Perhaps he turned up after 2pm.

Progress.
I think Bez will feel a bit better about his miss when he sees some of the chances Haaland squandered yesterday. They're all human.
I wonder if there is a gasroom type poster:
'Love pep club legend, but he's been found out stubborn playng his mates obviously list the dressing room...'
Taylor and Leahy are chalk and cheese. Not realistically interchangeable. That would alter the layout (or whatever it’s called).
Formation ?
You could (slightly counterintuitively) have Leahy and Potts as the two deeper midfielders, with Scowen in the Taylor role.
You could but I wouldn’t. Good post.
I didn't like the implied smear that because Vokes wasn't playing he wasn't bothering to go to the ground to support the lads.
Good to correct that.
Hear hear.
Bill Cleere once disallowed a goal I scored that literally hit the back of the net, saying it hadn't crossed the line
We spotted his car as we were leaving. 🤷♂️
It’s hilarious isn’t it? Some people just can’t stop looking for ‘issues’.
Lubala certainly won’t start on Wednesday. He’s cup tied!

So is Chem
