Love Vokes, but he looked like he had dropped a couple of Mogadon before he came on; no chance of continuing the high press when he was struggling to break into a fast walk.
But the high press WAS working tonight. We looked like the better team in the first half, were winning the ball high up the pitch and creating chances. Vokes came on, the press stopped, and Bolton largely controlled the rest of the game.
Very frustrating is a good sum up. Excellent first half putting them under pressure and playing good football on the floor, should have put one of multiple chances away. Second half we resort to aimless punts (even before Vokes came on). If we carried on with what we were doing the first half even for a bit i'm sure we would have had some joy. Potts was magnificent. Butcher, Lubala, Taylor (apart from the miss) and Taff had good games. Low, G-Mac and Wheeler (apart from winning the pen) were off it tonight I thought. (oh and I forgot about Sadlier because he was taken off so early-he was having a good game!)
Great commentary from Tim Peach in the second half. Announcing the attendance for a second time about sixty seconds after Phil had already announced it. Useless twat.
The point is the press was working. Their keeper looked shaky and we gained a lot of chances out of winning the ball back high up the pitch. 2nd half the ball wouldnt stick cos we didn't give players half of chance of allowing it to stick with punts upfield. (Edit: just seen @Brownie's post lol)
A Red would have been to our disadvantage. Only a few seconds left, changing their keeper would not alter this result.
Boltons next three games, the ones their keeper would potentially have missed, are against Charlton, Cambridge and Blackpool. We could do with Bolton beating Charlton and Cambridge so I’d prefer they had their first choice keeper for them.
Max should have done better for the first goal, a slow, looping header from six yards out when he was on the goal line.
Max couldn't have done worse for their second. A diagonal back-heel from the corner of the goal area while he was standing and in full sight of the shot?
The more embarrassing the goal he concedes, the more he remonstrates with the officials. Not a great look.
Game was lost in the 1st half, we had the chances to have been ahead, but somehow went in behind at the break. 2nd half I thought we were pretty poor to be honest, even before the changes. Even then, we still had a great chance to equalise, but again failed to hit the target.
Frustrating, the hopefully the changes we made tonight will bear fruit on Saturday and we'll hopefully have some fresh legs.
I had assumed that Bolton would choose their first choice keeper based on current availability - injuries etc - for a league game. So despite it being only his second game of the season he’s probably their current first choice.
if their normal keeper is available after tonight it becomes a moot point as to whether tonight’s keeper gets a ban for a red card anyway
I know you dislike Stryjek and I am more tolerating of that opinion than other posters, but do you have any other comment to make except repeating your usual?
yeah to be fair I also saw it as a lack of closing down as the main fault for the goal, not the keeper. I may be wrong but thought Max's vision was blocked by our players backing off. I'd need a 2nd viewing to confirm whether or not I was imagining that.
We had momentum, so why make changes? Grimmer probably injured but why others? Campbell a complete waste of time. Cannot see what he offers. We needed to take our chances in the first half. Second half we lost all momentum. Why was Kone left so late to be introduced? We are still in a relegation battle. Going to be a squeaky bum time over the next few weeks.

Campbell crap. Still.
Subs poor.
We've lost away to a team that might finish the season as champions. Yet it still feels wrong.

I think that's very arguable when he's so late and wild.
So our job now is to try and spoil other teams' promotion hopes...a target at least. Sadly I will be away so won't see the demolition of Oxford.
Oh well on to Saturday hopefully we can revive the time old tradition of derailing headingtons season.

I take it what you mean is that management are getting nowhere near their potential out of this squad.
Or are not getting anywhere near their potential out of this squad.
Just trying to help you when you sit your English ‘O’ level exam.
We had plenty of chances to have at least drawn that match before and after Vokes came on.
Putting that result down to one substitution (we were losing when he came on) is simplistic, on the verge of ridiculous.
But when all you've got is a hammer, everything looks like a nail with Sam Vokes' face on it
Vokes was fine, had some really nice touches. The reason we lost the game is that when chances fell to us we didn't take them.

All that energy then we bring on Vokes and revert to walking football he has had his time !!!

Some rare posters in on the losing bandwagon I see.
Kone should have been on much earlier, preferably instead of Sam Vokes who looked out of sorts after his tumble in the box.
That would hold some water were it not for the fact that we went to pieces as soon as we stopped pressing high.
He’s not first choice, that’s his second League game of the season
I was worried we'd have an easy cruise to the end of the season and everything was brilliant again for a while.
First half we were by far the better team despite carrying Campbell for the whole 45 minutes. Missed chances cost us.
Second half the whole game plan went to pot.
Shame really because Bolton were there for the taking.

It was already starting, but we're well into "blame the player we have an agenda against" now.
So I'll call it a night there methinks.
What, Brian Clough!!

Not at fault for either goal
