Reports on Sky that AAH is a target for Ipswich in the last week of the transfer window. Hopefully we’ve got a decent sell on clause. 17 goals and 7 assists in 29 games is not a bad return. Pity we didn’t give him a chance.
When De Barr scores 32 goals in his division and goes for 2.5million in the summer, there will be the usual suspects saying och what a missed opportunity with him too.
Not being wise after the event - but i said this time last year that I would have preferred that we sold Mellor to Rochdale and loaned AAH to Wimbledon, rather than the other way round. However, the club in their wisdom did negotiate a decent sell-on clause, as Rob confirmed recently. They also justified the decision by saying that at that time he wasn't threatening to hold down a starting position up front. As @flymofrank suggests, no-one amongst us last January was particularly 'up in arms' about it. We were in the middle of a purple patch and AAH wasn't featuring...
I don't think many of us saw him before he was let go. At the time we had prolific goalscorers in the squad that were banging em in left right and centre so we hardly needed another one I guess.
As usual on this topic I’m struggling to see a piece of business which is likely to result in turning a squad player into one of our highest ever transfer fees as a catastrophic error.
We are at the point where every decision (whether it has actually been made or not yet) on and off the pitch is a massive disaster/missed opportunity by the club.
I still can't work out why I cannot get a half decent coffee at AP on matchday...
Sardonic, little used these days @micra, interesting. I believe, whilst the Gasroom is often cynical and sarcastic, more often this is laced with irony, which may make sarcastic a more apposite epithet?
A rare mistake by Gareth in letting him go never felt that he got a good run in the team always thought he looked promising and that’s not with hindsight honest !
I seem to remember Gaz saying we would be watching his progress closely, which didn’t make a lot of sense until we found on there was a generous sell on negotiated. Good business if it comes off because he was never going to be in the shop window with us.
Good point, and I think the angst comes from the fact you wouldn't want any of our current forwards bagging your onions at Tescos, rather than any negative from the AAH2 situation itself. If we were scoring goals ourselves, we would simply be looking forward to the sell-on fee without a backward glance.
As I remember it, the main problem was that Max didn't get the ball to AAH with pinpoint precision to allow him to show us what he was made of by scoring a hatful of goals
“We will keep an invested interest in him as there is potential in Ali to go onto things.
“He just needs regular game time and that was difficult for me to give him at Wycombe, as we have got a great front four in Sam Vokes, Brandon Hanlan, Garath McCleary, and Anis Mehmeti.
“Ali has had his time in the team curtailed and it’s only fair that he goes out and tries to get some games.
“I think his pace will be something Wimbledon will be happy to receive, and I hope he works on the aspects of his game that we spoke about.
“It’s the journey of a young footballer sometimes as they have got to go and cut their teeth at certain places.
“He came up to me and thanked me for restarting his career, as he had hit a brick wall at Swansea, but he came here and really impressed.
“He has been a great acquisition for us and I hope he goes onto bigger and better things.”
We surely knew Anis was on his way out the door then. Hanlan is a five goal a season striker. GMac about the same. I remain disappointed that we never gave him a fair crack of the whip.
I think sardonic is gentler than sarcastic and has a hint of irony about it. I didn’t want to needle @TheAndyGrahamFanClub. He’s been going through hell lately.
it’s true that Big Sam once scored 17 goals in a season but for the life of me I cannot think of any recent prolific goalscorers.

If only there was a way to tell that a player who barely showed anything for us would suddenly develop into an absolute goal beast.
Exactly. It happens to all clubs. I don't remember many people batting an eyelid when he left. Hindsight is a wonderful thing...

It's just the slings and arrows of football. De Bruyne and Salah were once on Chelsea's books. Hey ho.
was he given a chance to show his potential at WW? answer is No.
Al Hamadi impressed in his one league start and several limited sub appearances. I said at the time he should have been kept.

There were a few of us who said that AAH looked a far more accomplished striker than De Barr and that we were letting the wrong one go.
It wasn't hindsight for all of us. Just a genuine error by Gareth Ainsworth.
I’m not sure we had too many prolific goalscorers at the time. Or are you being sardonic ?
Ahh if only our best ever manager had listened to you guys!!
What Might have been.
Serious query. I’m old and cannot recall.
There was a lad called Vokes who scored 17 in a season.
Did you see that pig fly past your window?

True - it always comes to Max letting us down. People say he is a good keeper, but he never scores hattricks of overhead kicks for us. Some goalie.
Maybe that’s what we are doing wrong, we should play him up front. 😂
Gaz on Al-Hamadi.

I miss GA.
Damn QPR for wrecking our flow completely.

Wimbledon supporting friend with links to the club was previously told 30% sell on. Don't know if that's accurate or not. Seems about right though
I do love an apposite epithet when I see one.

I’ve just reread this post and I am certain that you had your tongue firmly in your cheek.
