Who replaces Josh for the next three games?
Some discussion of this on the Rovers’ match thread but I thought it might make for an interesting thread in its own right.
Wheels for me. He can do the dirty work while Potts runs the show.

Leahy if he’s not required at LB
Excellent pairing. Even better before they both succumbed to injuries would have been either Dom Gape or Curtis Thompson. Jasper Pattenden is injured currently and has been used predominantly as a right wingback but he has much of the tenacity of those three musketeers and could be an option before Josh Scowen completes his three match ban.
David Wheeler would do a good job and is good defensively when we come under the cosh. Against that, he seems to play mostly wide right.
I would.like someone at left back and leahy being the midfield general myself.
Have to find a way to play Leahy in midfield. I’m still none the wiser as to where this Boyes rumour came from. KVY at left back doesn’t seem like a sensible option to me.
i was unexpectedly impressed by KVH in his short cameo appearance replacing Gmac on the right at Brisbane Road but there was another recent match where he looked uncomfortable on the left.
I think this guy might get a run out.
Was it Exeter away? Always looks like a square peg in a round hole to me at left back🤷♂️
Ditto
I think I may be in the minority but I would rather keep Leahy in defence. For me, he’s a real difference maker and makes us far more dynamic when he brings the ball out of defence and links things together.
I’m certainly no fan of the back 5, but I always felt that he was the one who made the system work and we played our best football with him as the LCB.
That said, he’d be great back next to Potts but I think we would lose some of his dynamism
Leahy if we have a suitable left back option. Either JJ or Woodhouse could play left back.
If not, I wouldn’t have a huge issue with Taylor Clark being given a run out. He was excellent against Wimbledon but might be too soon.
Leahy for me. KVY to left back. Or Wheeler keeping Leahy at LB.
Please, not KVY at left back.
Reckon we could probably get away with that. Scott Owen, signed on Friday.
I have a sneaky feeling we may see a new face go straight into the side either at left back, with Leahy moving into midfield, or straight into midfield
As a more left field suggestion, recall Jack Young from Ayr and give him his chance.
He could even be loaned back to Ayr at the end of the month if it worked for all parties.
I’m looking forward to seeing Christie Ward get some long overdue game time (and he may well get some against West Ham U21 next week) but he’ll not be starting games until he’s had a chance to prove himself during substitute appearances.
Yes, it was. Grimmer, Keogh, JJ, KVY. A pretty grim back four. And he played the whole match.
KVY seems like an attacker to me. I like him running at the defense at pace, but I don't see him offering much at the back. The yin to Grimmer's yang.
Agreed. His crossing from left flank is too good to give up and his passing into midfield give us a platform to start decent attacking moves.
Moving him also means someone else playing out of position if Boyes is unavailable/not at the club.
Josh is a ball winner in midfield, a role which Wheeler can cover.
Didn't Leahy move to WWFC in large part because he was promised he would mostly be played in midfield?
That was certainly my understanding but I’ve probably underestimated Matt Bloomfield’s powers of persuasion.
But doesn’t Wheeler mainly win the ball in the air ? Don’t really see him as an ankle snapper in the tradition of Dom, Curtis and Josh.
He's a swiss army knife of a footballer. Would probably do a decent job in any outfield position.
What’s wrong with his goalkeeping?
Probably not much - he was a decent high-jumper
I wonder if a goalkeeper has ever headed away a cross or a set piece. Wheels would probably be more comfortable doing that than catching or punching it.
Did I miss something, is Boyes injured?
Whilst he's not torn up any trees, it seems the most obvious move to me is putting Boyes back in at LB and moving Leahy into CM.
I'm not sold on KVY at all (yet, I had very high hopes) but the same move with him is seemingly the other obvious solution.
Rene Higuita must've done it
I would personally go with Leahy at left back with Phillips alongside Potts. He done a good job next to Josh while Potts was out. He can attack but also loves to get stuck in and seems more than adaptable to play there while we await Josh's return.
I am hoping we send Breckin back and try recruit a more capable league 1 midfielder this window.
The way Taylor (D) played on Saturday, he could be a handy midfielder chasing down the ball and taking players on.
