Sorry, I don’t think it’s obvious at all. As others have said, he looked very uncomfortable on the left at Exeter and his forte is attacking, not defending (as he would mostly be doing in a back four).
I think @Major’s shout re Phillips playing alongside Potts is a good one. He’d get some juicy passes to run on to.
Didn't want to put a downer on a great team display but I thought he looked totally off. Normally chases everything down relentlessly but just when we needed that he came on and jogged around. I assume he was ill or something.
I thought the same Glenactio. When he came on I thought...here we go madly running at defenders and keeper until end of match and he just conceded space and time. Perhaps that was the tactic but with not much time to go i thought he'd gone on to keep them busy. Just an off day perhaps. My main point was the team seemed solid and attacking without him which was the surprise.
I'd like to think he was unwell, it was another addition to the "late sub looks more tired than players who've been haring around for 90 minutes" hall of fame.

I like Phillips, but dare I say it, the team looked better without him on NYD.
How dare you, @Wendoverman. But you could be right (again).
In terms of backup for LB.....
Has Boyes gon/einjured/suspended?
Is JJ injured?
Do we miss McCarthy more than has been mentioned?
What happened to the "B" Team?
Can Sadlier play LB?
Is Pattenden injured?
Can Grimmer play LB and Wheeler RB?
3-5-2?! haha
Spoilt for choice!

Looks a bit like the dad in American Pie

He came on and instantly put in one of the latest (yet harmless) challenges I've seen for many a year.
Literally just bundled a player over, comedy style. Not even a look from the ref who wasn't bothered.
