One swallow indeed does not make a summer. But if we had won with flat back five and a ponderous build up I could see a situation where the management felt vindicated. Yesterday was played to our strengths, and that's something we have not done. Vokes looked like Vokes and that was our first point of defence. When you play an isolated lone striker the ball is always coming straight back at you. One of many, many tweaks that worked and gave us hope for the games ahead.
My point has always been that criticism of referees tends to be completely biased.
For example I don't think anyone has mentioned the nailed on penalty Rovers should have had when Joe Low blatantly controlled the ball with his forearm in the first half
Having seen the sending off again I have to say it isn't great.
At the time I couldn't understand it and gave the ref some robust appraisal from the terrace.
Viewed from another angle it is definitely a straight red and Josh's reaction is a little disappointing. I think you need fight and aggression in any team (I enjoyed several tackles yesterday where we flattered an opposing player just to let them know we wouldn't be pushed around) but gesticulating at the ref like that isn't on really.
I'm sure he didn't plan to go in that high and when you have a player that combative they'll inevitably get some tackles wrong.
I'm not convinced there was any actual contact, and you could see their physios pretending to treat a cut to the face that magically produced no blood. I think Josh's reaction was trying to explain to the ref that he'd been conned.
Having said that, it was a very high boot so hard to have too many complaints about it. I was more annoyed that their players repeatedly kicked the ball away without even a telling off let alone the mandatory yellow that that should now be.
I know what you mean. Their player clearly takes a second to realise theres potential for a red card and decides to collapse to the floor holding his face.
But that kind of tackle has to be given as a red, even if he's made minimal contact.
I'm sure you're right, Josh was protesting about the dramatics. But the threatening gestures towards officials isn't OK.
The manor of his exit from the pitch could land him an extra game ban. It depends on how the ref has written up his report.
The sending off and subsequent increase in our lead from 1-0 to 3-0 was just what we needed as a club. We nearly threw it away at the end but a wins a win. Well done to MB and the team for a 10/10 for entertainment, my ticker has only just recovered.
Oh I hope not, I think Boyes has been OK, I'd much rather see him at left back than Leahy, to me Leahy is wasted in defence and should be in midfield, a definite replacement for Josh while he's out
Definite red. You are asking for a sending when your foot is that high. A very rare blot for Josh. He had been wound up for some reason and you could see something coming. When you look at the stats 6 yellows and a red you would think it was a bloodbath. As their manager said it’s a contact sport.

The last few months have been tough for MB but hopefully the words of Kahil Gibran make sense now.
Your joy is your sorrow unmasked.
And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises was oftentimes filled with your tears.
And how else can it be?
The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain.
Is not the cup that holds your wine the very cup that was burned in the potter’s oven?
And is not the lute that soothes your spirit, the very wood that was hollowed with knives?
Beautiful!
No noise

Pathetic
Yes, in fact it was being advertised pretty regularly on the advertising screens today.
Such a nice start to the year. It would be fantastic if the two goals with ten men was the turning point for everything.
Happy New Year @Shev
You, sir, are an extremely popular guy,
Same to you, @LX1!
I heard the abuse but I didn't know exactly who said it because it came from a group behind me. It could've been any one of about 30 people

Like I said eric....poor referee 😉

Matt Bloomfield in his post match interview confirmed that the player suffered a cut to his face.
I think it's probably one of those that seems harsh because it was an accident, but I certainly don't think we'd have any joy with an appeal.
A real shame because we will miss him massively

Agree. Going down to 10 men and then scoring twice should be a huge shot of confidence at just the right time.
Josh is a massive loss but Wheeler showed he can be effective winning turnovers in a similar(ish) role.
We'll also get Josh back fresh and rested in late Jan, which could be a blessing in disguise. Although to be honest he normally seems pretty tireless.
Scowen’s league suspension means he will almost certainly play in League Trophy match v West Ham, which is big as we hunt silverware.
Ahh, thanks for clarifying. In which case, no complaints and totally agree about the accidental nature making it seem harsh.
I think I'd be inclined to move Leahy into the middle, and start Boyes at left back in Scowen's absence.
A couple of people on another thread suggest Boyes has left.
No idea if that's true or not.
Oh I hope not, I think Boyes has been OK, I'd much rather see him at left back than Leahy, to me Leahy is wasted in defence and should be in midfield, a definite replacement for Josh while he's out
My thoughts exactly on the Rumour Mill thread,,,I would be disappointed to see Boyes go early.
There doesn’t need to be any contact for a red card. In fact you can win the ball cleanly and still be sent off depending on the circumstances.
Quite a few Bristol fans never coming to a game against us ever again if their forum is to be believed.
Ten men scored two goals against them....can't all be timewasting.
Gonna be another great oppo view on rtb

Matthew Bloomfield, you are the best
Matthew Bloomfield, he'll show the rest!
We've got Ivor for Chairman we've got Martin and Glynn
We're Wycombe Wanderers
And we're gonna win
