Shrewsbury weren't negative. They came to win a game or get something from the game. They scored a goal. After that they knew all they had to do was sit back and not close our back 5 and we would be toothless.
Many posters are sounding like all those fans of teams we used to beat who would complain that we played the wrong way or were somehow anti-football.
Shrewsbury came with a near perfect gameplan and executed it really well. We’ve got precisely the results we’ve deserved in the last half dozen games, arguably all season.
I'm not sure we were playing that well then, luckily Wing discovered a habit of banging goals in from miles out. Difficult to know if that was a fluke or if the tactics changed or he'd just checked out with his mind on all the money he thought he'd make in the championship.
First away loss of the season and the delirium of being in some heck hole service station in the middle of nowhere at midnight on the way back was surreal.
Shooting with feet doesn’t usually cause such a bad run of form as far as I understand. I didn’t grow up playing football, so may have missed something, but from what I’ve seen in the last 30 years if watching, it’s one of the most common expected ways of scoring, rather than a problem.
Last time I did Exeter away we got a blowout on the motorway on the way home and spent a few hours sheltering under a bridge waiting for a tow truck, and a few more hours riding home very slowly in the tow truck.
Last time I did Exeter away I had the pleasure of the company of @glasshalfempty and @ReadingMarginalista in the car, and Max Kretzschmar scored an absolutely beautiful winner
Looking back, every single point counted that season so it turned out to be very important indeed
Shrewsbury certainly were negative in the sense that their only positive intent was to snatch a goal on the counter (which they did with that unstoppable worldie strike by Taylor Perry five minutes before half time) and then sit back, confident that their packed defence would be virtually impossible to penetrate, as it has been all season.
Not at all entertaining but, in order to grind out results, perhaps we should follow suit, rein in our usual all out attacking instincts and catch teams on the counter, giving our forwards a clearer route into the opposition box and a much better sight of goal.
Thinking about it we do seem to want to try and attack, or at least get the ball forward quite a lot, we just seem to do it really slowly at times and don't seem to be very good at it so it all gets mopped up by defenders, or we pass it around the back, get a bit frustrated and then just lump it or throw the ball away.
You couldn't say we have any real identity in how we want to attack other than long diagonals for Vokes to create something from, or for any of his stand ins to fail hopelessly to connect with.
You consider wanting to win a game negative? They scored, they knew what to do to stop us creating chances, they were coached into performing that role perfectly, they won. I would call that positive. Playing out from the back is not positive, it is a hoax, it is the Emperor's New Clothes of 3rd division football, it is the reason we are a struggling team. It is negative when you play in a way that is destined to defeat.
We had some great years with Gareth loving what some call negative football. And after the last seven games I would give so much to see that much negativity once again.
I don't have the stats to hand but we had plenty of 7 or 8 game winless runs under GA that were also excrutiatingly boring and negative. He was very stubborn during these periods as well, and almost fell into a new system due to injuries forcing a change rather than perhaps him going in a different direction.
We would then quite often stick with the new system for far too long.
It seems a lot of fans are reflecting on GAs time through rose tinted spectacles at the minute. He had some very impressive seasons and we were highly competitive but we had some shocking patches as well.
I've said before under GA we were rarely out of games. That is why we had so many last minute wins or draws. God those were great, so great we sold T-shirts in some cases. With 10 minutes to go on Saturday you could have been warming your car up, we were done. The body language was done, the tempo was done, both teams just waiting for the whistle. Same story v Morecambe, we were done long before the final whistle. Something I haven't experienced for a good few seasons.

100% agree @TheAndyGrahamFanClub

Shrewdsbury.
Salopportunistic.
Wycombe to Exeter says 3hours 10 on Google. In thr middle of the day so doesn't sound as scandalous as I first thought.

So we deserved the six wins and four draws so far, at least @Lloyd2084
Not sure we deserved to lose to Barnsley or the game just 3 days back.
Both screamed draws but a ridiculous mistake / ref ignoring the rules scenario scuppered one and a supreme strike the other.
Agreed - and we have had some other good performances where the breaks did not go our way, such as Portsmouth, Bolton, Peterborough etc.
Saying you always deserve the result you get is like saying life is always fair.
He'd be going Heathrow to Exeter, you can add two hours on just to get out of Heathrow.
Does Bristol Airport take flights from America ? Will only be an hours drive then !
Actually, Exeter has an airport as well ! But think they are only European flights
I went to Exeter away on the coach once.
Midweek.

Looked it up the other day, it wanted to go via Newcastle for some reason and that does rather affect the time and price.
Supreme strike? I thought it was a very good pass that caught out two slow CBs and a decent shot that the keeper should have saved

The stairs? Leading up to the bedrooms?

"our all out attacking instincts"?
Have I stumbled upon a parallel universe?
We're all out of attacking instincts.

Yep it's hilarious calling his style negative.
We were always a threat and would build a real head of steam late on leading to many epic memories of late goals.
Memories so far? Very few.
And the classic we could play all night and not score type comments.
But this has been a 40-game run of excruciatingly boring football
