I actually thought that Max’s confidence improved as the game went on on Tuesday.
First half he looked fairly indecisive with high balls across the six yard box. Second half I remember him claiming almost everything. If he hadn’t have had that ‘unfortunate incident’ at the end he would have been well up in the Man of the Match scoring at the end I think.
But I think @Commoner hit the nail on the head in their earlier post. His strengths (in common with most keepers at this level) do not align to the fannying around at the back that we (in common with most teams at this level) seem so keen on at the moment.
I’d start him on Saturday and then substitute him at half time when we’re 5-0 up.
I too hope he doesn’t play until he is right to. But I think that will be earlier than the New Year providing there are not any complications that we don’t know of.
I agree but that must be a very difficult judgment to make. He’s probably felt OK for some time and if the 21 days are up tomorrow he could in theory play but our club always (rightly) err on the side of caution when it comes to a player’s health and safety.
I thought it was a minimum of 7 days but presumably, that doesn’t apply when a player has lost consciousness.
Concussions are incredibly difficult things to predict, especially those as severe as Luke suffered. They’re also cumulative, so the next time he gets one it’ll be even worse.
Blooms was hit on the back of the head by a ball and never played again, Luke was unconscious with paramedics looking for a pulse. I think it‘ll be a long time before we see him again. I hope I’m wrong.
We somehow have 7 games in December and one on New year's day. Some tricky one's too, need to grind out some wins soon or it will go from disappointing to massively concerning by anyone's standards.
I am sure that thought will have occurred to Matt and the players @StrongestTeam . I’m sure all will be doing their best to achieve the results we all desire. Honestly can we ask any more of them?
I'm not suggesting they aren't trying but yeah we can ask for more, they are better than they showed on Saturday (less said about Tuesdays issues the better) and some of those being relied on due to injuries would certainly tell you they should be in consideration to be first choice.
One week is the minimum protocol, but because it was more serious than the standard, you'd imagine we'd definitely go on the safe side. Especially with Bloomfield's background of head knocks.
New year seems slightly overkill though? But if the medical people say give it that long, that's how long it needs.
It seems odd that there would be a difference in length of recovery for professionals and amateurs. I wonder whether this is science based or insurance based?
Perhaps with all the medical staff professionals have access to they can give the all clear, whereas an amateur wouldn't have that access so they go to the longest acceptable time.
Luke's work with the ambulance service since he had his injury is something we should all be very proud of. Our club has a history of doing these things and long may it continue.
That was the one where he was down in the box wasn't it. I was sure at the time that was another case of us getting bitten by our reputation for playacting.
Blooms was so unlucky with the head injuries. I feel as though he had a clash of heads a game or two after finally taking the protector off. He also had played with a face mask in the past, before the head protector. And to have his career ended by getting hit from his own team's free kick is just rotten. I don't think I have even seen that happen before, let alone to someone with a history of head trauma.
The silver lining is that Blooms is deadly serious about how head injuries are handled, and our players should benefit from that extra caution.

On the one hand, it's giving us lots of coverage. On the other, it's for embarrassing reasons.
No idea what you're talking about @Otter87
My post was in response to the one above suggesting the ref had been suspended following the Max incident.
Not sure what you are basing that on but I’d be shocked and concerned if we don’t.

”Nurse?!?!?!?”
He suffered a massive concussion, I hope he takes all the time in the world.
I saw him eating a turkey panini with an espresso in a Marlow Bistro yesterday
Worryingly he hadn't availed of the 'pigs in blankets for one pound extra Christmas Special.' Which suggests we are paying our players too much imho
(Unless he'd lobbed them in a full gravy boat and drank the lot as a kind of aperitif, which would be understandable)

I think he'll be back before the new year.
Concussion protocols are minimum of 21 days before return to play.
The first time Luke would be allowed to play should be 5th December.
2nd December would be his 21st day.
As others have said, he should only return when he is fit and well enough to do so.
I believe that protocol is for non-professional players. For professional players the guidelines are 12 days minimum.

Missed that comment. That’s it in a nutshell.

Blooms played with a head protector for a while didn't he? Was that a previous head injury?
That was after he got clattered against Lincoln and the ref let play continue to the point they scored, I think?
Well, not quite clattered as I think it was a coming together with a Lincoln player, but Blooms definitely came off worse.

I also remember Blooms getting clattered by Charlie Lee of Peterborough earlier in his career and having to go off with a head injury.
He had a horrible run of head injuries in his career.
It's not 21 days, it's about a week.

It’s 21 days in grassroots sport but shorter for professionals due to their access to specialist medical care on a day-to-day basis.
I don’t think any of us would be surprised if Luke takes the full 21 days here and maybe more.
Quite agree. Would or should be.
That was the one where he was down in the box wasn't it. I was sure at the time that was another case of us getting bitten by our reputation for playacting.
Cup run solves everything.
Yeah, ref just froze
No it was a knee injury 😂
