Yeah, he's gone down there because he thinks he can and to waste a few seconds not because he was charged into and knocked down. Normally given and wouldn't have mattered either way if he'd held onto the ball.
It’s a collision and only a foul because goalkeepers are a protected species on the pitch. Especially with ball in hand. Max has invited the striker to challenge for the ball by messing about from the drop ball, waiting and waiting to pick it up.
Anywhere else on the pitch that is not a foul. The ref was letting a lot of contact go tonight and no argument with that.
But I do think the ref should have given a foul on this occasion as you can’t barge the keeper with the ball in hands and shake it free. Well not since the 1950s anyway!
Ok, let's say it's a foul.... He's a fuckin goalkeeper, all he had to do was fall over holding the ball but he thought he'd emphasise that fact by letting go of the ball and the whistle never came to his rescue......
Spot on Alan. Although I disagree about the challenge. The ref wasn't giving free kicks for similar softish challenges elsewhere on the pitch. I think the ref had a good game including that decision. But I'm still behind Max he's been an excellent keeper for us.
If they had ouplayed us for 90 minutes and we lost then so be it, but they didn't; we held our own, rode our luck a little and had a few decent breaks & half chances of our own & I suspect would have been happy with the point only for one truly immense moment of stupidity by our keeper gifting them a goal.
I am furious & I suspect once in the confines of the dressing room the squad will be furious too.
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, but also: WHY PLAY FOR A FOUL WHEN THE FREE KICK WOULD BE TAKEN FROM THE EXACT SAME SPOT YOU ARE ALREADY STANDING IN WITH THE BALL IN YOUR HANDS???????????
Yep. Exactly. Completely agree. What was our xG today? I’d guess lower than 0.5. Appalling. We didn’t even look solid at the back. They hit the bar, missed big chances and had many balls flash across goal - those don’t even contribute to xG so are masking the full extent of how poor our performance was and has been for a sustained period of games.
Not sure what game @glasshalffull was watching, if he says it was one of the worst decisions he’s seen in 60 years. Just watched the video again, Max was hardly touched. Went down like he was shot. Totally embarrassing.
That's not a foul for me, a 6 foot 3 keeper getting knocked of his feet by someone's little finger was just plain trying to cheat, and he wasn't very good at it. Thought we'd been better this season at the gamesmanship stuff, but was awful tonight and.it came back to bite us in the arse... we are in trouble people !
It could've been given as a foul. That's as generous as I can be with Max. It was a completely unprofessional. He needlessly dived to the ground and dropped the ball assuming he would get a free kick. The ref (who I thought was very good) had let a lot go and clearly wasn't going to give a free kick for a very slight push.
Honestly, how must the defenders who stood firm all evening have felt watching that? They must be absolutely fuming! I'm a big fan of Max and I hope he'll learn and bounce back from this, but I would hope Ravazolli will start Saturday.

The video is already going viral as a goalkeeping howler. Still can't believe what I've seen.
Max was being stupid, but you just can't push the keeper when they have the ball. It's always a foul.
If you don’t think that sort of thing isn’t given as a foul 999 times out of 1000 I don’t know what to tell you.
Of course Max was being stupid. And of course it was a foul.

Not a foul. What was going through his brain?

I said Max did something stupid but that doesn’t alter the fact that Cosgrove pushed him with both hands.

The xG numbers are making for dire reading over a sustained period now. We're as sharp as a balloon in attack.

Not sure how he managed to drop the ball either. Just a bizarre incident all round.

Watching the actual games doesn't look very good either.

Absolutely dreadful goalkeeping, not interested in whether it’s a foul or not, you don’t drop the ball
football is not won on XG!
This will be shown at drama classes everywhere in the future, under the title 'When Bad Acting Goes Really Badly'.
May I refer you to your comment at half time where you suggested my negative approach was getting ‘tiresome’. Swings and turntables
Timewasting to protect a 0-0 is a great advert for......shoe shops?
On the plus side, the defence looked much more solid without Keogh.
The sad thing is that this detracts from the decent showing from both Breckin & Pattenden
Show me where I said it was?
Might be missing that gag.
As adverts go 0-0 normally ends up looking quite good for goalkeepers who have made a couple of decent saves though.
Are we winning anything at the moment?

It's your "relentlessly" negative approach that saps life.
Not a gallows humour response go @ReturnToSenda 's love of judging games by stats 🙃
After the nature of that defeat I think it'll take until tomorrow for even the most relentlessly positive poster to get some steam back.
