He had his contract terminated, not sure about the others. I know he wasn't driving, but pretty poor judgement on his part to get into a car driven by someone who was pissed (even if also was himself).
Something for everyone here. @Shev can be pleased that we’ve continued our streak of signing former players, @ReturnToSenda has something to grumble about, and those who have friends waiting for us to move in the transfer market can tell them we’ve signed a former international and L1 promotion winner.
No one has any concerns about his character? No one's perfect, but what he did was bloody stupid and I don't think we'd have made this signing under Gaz. But I guess this is a new regime and we better get used to it...
how has he acted since the incident? Maybe he made a mistake, learned from it and his character now is 10x what it was previous to it. Unless you’ve followed his every action since?
Much like this signing as a whole, it has a question mark over it (as any signing of a 36 year old would) but it’s one piece of a league one squad puzzle we are making. I’ll judge both the signing and his character over the coming weeks and months
Yeah I was trying to remember if it was him that was caught up in that controversy at Derby.
A very good player if still fit and able and a good sign that we can still attract players of high quality. I remember him playing for Wycombe on loan for a spell early in his career.
At his age though and with Taf and Forino rather injury prone, I'd ideally like us to have another CB on board by the end of August.
I’m not across the facts of that incident as much as others so I’ll park that part of the signing.
What I will say is that I felt we lacked leadership at certain parts of the season last year. The vacuum left by losing Bayo, Stockdale and pretty much all the generals showed. Which is why I think we saw less last minute draws or wins, we just didn’t have the leaders to fight. In which case Keogh is a good signing. Come December and he’s only made 5 appearances due to injury I’ll take it back.
Funnily enough, reading the Guardian article, I'd have thought he's exactly the sort of 'damaged goods', 'point to prove' signing that Ainsworth would have made. It's quite clear that he's suffered for his mistake and he's suffered far more than those more guilty than he was.
The decision by Mel Morris to sack him and retain Lawrence and Bennett was shocking. He's got a Darius Charles style back story- I hope he can bring that intrinsic motivation here in the same way Darius did.
A classic 'I hope to be proved wrong...' signing if ever there was one. Popular player and Captain at Derby before the incident...four clubs since so must be reasonably fit. If he is a leader and can still cut it at L1 level, I am on board for now. For those disappointed I refer to my earlier post...he may not be The Player but which players in our price range would be suitably exciting to suggest ambition and also be high profile enough to bring in those reluctant season ticket holders waiting for a sign?
Anyway, can we go back to more important things, and highlight the best thing about this was Matt Cecil’s use of 80’s Pop music to announce a breaking transfer.
My guess would be that he’s been signed with the 20 matches that Taff won’t be fit for in mind.
I can’t see the two playing together much as we’ll be too short of pace but having at least one in the side to provide solidity will be a good starting point.
No not me. And can’t imagine we’ll see it unless we’ve a real injury crisis.
if we do play a back three the key position is the central role. Needs to be someone who is big, strong and can defend. Taff would be first choice with Forino to fill in.
But big Chris may be on the move, so Keogh might be a decent short term solution.
“Richard Keogh in my opinion has had a massive impact on the clean sheet record that we have and our defensive record because of the way that he works every day, the way that the other centre-halves can learn habits and traits from him, the way that he speaks to them."

Wasn't that in a drink driving situstion which caused him and those in the car to have their contracts terminated?

Fucking hell. If he follows this up with DDH I’m cancelling my season ticket.

I have no idea about his character.

Its a jigsaw and he’s a piece.
I’m assuming this isn’t a footballing signing and this is Bloomfield placing some much-needed dressing room leadership.
I'm hoping this is like the first in a convoy of buses.
I feel a quick trip to Cressex, for petrol, is needed.
Yes although his was ruled unfair dismissal and he picked up £2.3 million in compensation
His international career was under Martin O'Neill. No wonder he wanted to come here.
As club captain but drunk driver was a valuable asset and kept and Keogh was sacked wasn't he? And sued the sheep.

Good Signing for me.

He will actually be 37 by the start of the season in August.
Some would argue that it wasn't exactly exemplary captaincy.
Ronaldo will be 39 in February. Sure he’s no Keogh but age doesn’t automatically rule out ability.
it is a concern, however. As I said.
Arguably, comparing one of the best ever, to a journeyman defender is a bit of a stretch.
My guess would be that he’s been signed with the 20 matches that Taff won’t be fit for in mind.

Seems a solid but unspectacular signing. I wouldn’t want a back three of Keogh, Taff and JJ though.
Centre Backs very rarely play beyond 35. Richard will be the second oldest CB in League One next season.
I hope he has a great season playing for us and manages to play a good number of games.
Thats what you took from that? Wow.
It was a simple age does not define ability analogy. I’d rather judge Keogh on the latter rather than a number.

Must be something about him that meant he played in both the championship and in a league one promotional team after he turned 35.
can’t think what that might be? Some ability maybe?
