I would say it needs black shorts, rather than white. Because many teams have blue shirts with white shorts, so our kit needs to not clash with shirts and shorts.
Agreed. We're massively hamstrung most years with the home kit so it's good to try something new (or in this case historically significant) with the away kit.
White shorts in fine, I believe you can mix shorts/shirts from different "kits" if necessary to avoid a colour clash. Although I suppose that green shirt - which is excellent, I might add - wouldn't look esthetically good with blue shorts.
The thought of going topless in the supermarket gives me the shivers. I tend to don a light jacket before entering Morrison’s, even (especially?) when it’s 30 degrees outside.
We are no nearer to establishing the origin or meaning of “skin in the game”, are we?

Back then dog shit often turned white so was a more useful marker than those deposited by the modern well nourished mutt.
This thread has gone down the toilet
Depends on the sport too.
In running, skins means just what you say.
In football I don't think I've ever heard skins to mean a base layer.
I just assume you didn’t play football then haha
You've played rugby at Felixstowe as well then....
It's a brand name isn't it
Waking up to a plethora of new responses on this thread had me momentarily excited that the change kit had been released.
When will I learn....
The perils of living so far behind Chair Metropolis Standard Time.
When I'm from "skins" meant extra long rolling papers.

I really hope it is this, much better than boring all red
I could live with a permanent variation on this for the change.

OK.. stop throbbing..."change" kit.
How about green for shorts?

It was always green shorts back in the day wasn’t it?!
Who said they found that it helps to have more skin in the game ?
I heard it in an ad on LBC but didn’t know what it meant.
I thought @Malone had more class than to remove his top at every opportunity. Better not do that at Lords next week.
From the ‘August’ issue of WSC. Think I prefer the green stripe strip.
Nothing wrong with losing the shirt if engaging in sporting activities if you're reasonably trim.
A lot is wrong with waddling round the supermarket with your shirt off. No-one wants that.

At your age you've earnt the right to do what you like.
In the words of a great man, erm Homer Simpson, "if it feels good, do it".
Skin = interest is the meaning.
We'd need someone with a lot of time on their hand to research the origin.
Or sat bored in Zoom meeting...
This whole discussion has given me awful flashbacks of school PE and Jock Learmonth shouting "shirts v. skins, gent'men..."
But I am looking forward to digging out my old green 2nd shirt from '93. So I hope that particular rumour is true.
Wait until you guys see the Barnsley kits if you haven’t already!!
Was just going to post it - one of the worst kits I've ever seen
Carlisle have a very nice new retro home kit
Carlisle looks quality!
Barnsley justification on their kit and long diatribe speaks volumes. The home shirt is trul shocking.

So bad it's.... truly awful
Fair play to Puma, though - I didn't think they could do worse than their 'pyjama' kits from the other season.
