I'm confused. You say it happened 5 times in 86/87 but not before or since and yet it happened 8 times on the trot, which means it happened 3 times in either 85/86 or 87/88?
I believe we played in a different variation of the home kit.
It was during the time when Trend Communications was sponsoring the club. I think we had two home kits, one with light and slightly darker blue stripes woven in to the fabric, and one with plain light blue. Also, the Trend logo was slightly different for each variant.

Hat-tricks by Wycombe players?
No
Scored five or more goals in a game five times? Seems unlikely that we wouldn't have done it before, but I can't think of anything else at the moment.
we did have 5 matches that season where the support was less than 400.
Not the answer I'm looking for.
Clue it actually happened 8 times on a trot, but 5 in 86/87
Played five games against teams whose first-choice colours were light and dark blue (Walthamstow Avenue x 2, Croydon x 2, VS Rugby x1).
Missed penalties? (I seem to remember a couple at least that season)
Does it involve WWFC?
Certainly does.

FA Cup wins 5 that season ?

Certainly not in 86/87 !!
Five different players scored 10 or more league goals.
Not the answer I'm looking for.
Has it anything to do with players being sent off?
We lost five league games across the whole season, the only season we've ever done that?
All incorrect so far, Mr Newbs was closest.
Our opponents had to play in our change strip? (I am clutching at straws here but again a vague memory of it happening)

Or once in 85/86 and twice in 87/88
We won a game scoring 5 or more goals
