Pre-season isn't about challenging yourselves; it's about building fitness. And some experimentation - but not anything that will give much away tactically.
It's not just about money and I'm sure he will want a meaningful game against a team he has connections with and at League One level it is notoriously difficult to generate interest in a testimonial during the summer holidays when people are away and spending more due to kids off, holidays and going out more due to the better weather. He will probably make more money from other events going on within his testimonial year.
I can't imagine Wrexham would generate much interest for Wycombe fans for a low key game and you certainly won't get many Wrexham fans travelling seven hours return to a meaningless game. Bayo playing would generate more interest for Wycombe fans than Wrexham.
He will be doing exceptionally well if he gets 3000 through the gate. Myself and my family will be in attendance unless I'm in Zimbabwe and if I am I will buy tickets anyway. He deserves our support for his 10 years of exemplary service.
It would be naive to think that we aren’t playing against competitive sides behind closed doors. Bet most of these games have written clauses where neither team is allowed to publicise the results, line ups etc.
I had assumed from what was said last night it would be Cardiff given JJ's connection.
I would certainly hope that no matter who the opposition is that there are a few cameos from people who are either still playing or very recently retired who have played with him in his time at Wycombe, like Bayo & Sido - that ought to attract punters.

At least this pre-season can't be worse than the last one.

Last years pee-season was an absolute shambles.

Pre no pee but maybe pee would be better.
It was a bit of a damp squib
Probably Maidenhead then.

I'm so certain it doesn't happen, if it does, you can borrow @ReturnToSenda for a weekend for your stat filled delight.
This seems more likely.
Bayo, Gaz, Sido and some other recent mates.
Not guys he has a vague link to from 20 years ago, or someone in the team knew a while back.
Knew it wouldn't be long before someone brought up the state of the toilets.
Who knows but it's fun guessing.
Just hope he gets good support on the day, always a risk it could lose money.

Yeah I thought they pretty much gave it away that it was Cardiff. It would seem to be the natural choice.
It's been pointed out for decades on this message board. Pre season means jack
So Swansea it is
except when it is absolutely vital for a good start to the season and/or revealing the owners/manager's exciting new approach/lack of ambition.
I'd rather jack, than Fleetwood........Town
I think I get this. Don't put it on tinder though
I was hoping someone would get the Swansea ref
Didn't Rob say the choice of testimonial opponent would "excite" our fans?
No disrespect and I'm sure JJ loves them etc, but Cardiff isn't exciting, is it?
Wrexham?
Maybe a Wrexdiff XI playing in red and blue quarters?
I think so
I remember going to the first Charity Shield game at Cardiff the day after we played at Ninian Park.
A fantastic weekend for every Wycombe supporter.
A dreadful day for any Manu wanker who was naiive enough to attend
Cardiff and Wycombe made a bond that day
Sam Hamman doing the 'ayatollah'
Brilliant City
Pathetic
I'm guessing you live in Marlow or some of the soulless satellite villages nearby?
Imagine calling Cardiff boring. One of the greatest cities in our country. Go and visit it and find out.
