That Forest game tonight was very entertaining. Two teams who can’t defend at the required level.
Morgan Gibbs-White is superb, everything you want from a team player…commitment plus.
Great to see Martin O’Neill on TV tonight, the fire still burns bright in him and I’m sure he could still do a job in management. Forest treated him poorly as manager I think.
It’s 50 years since I first went to the City Ground to see Forest - October 1972 as my brother reminded me tonight. We had moved from Newcastle with our family and the two of us had been to see Notts County play first. We decided we had to see both the Nottingham teams and then we would choose which team to follow…we made a good choice! My brother would have been 13 and I was 10. We always went to the games on our own with no adults. Do kids still do that?
The odd time I went on my own at half time because they opened the gates at the City Ground at half time and I could get in for free and stand on the Bridgford End open terrace.
Apart from the Champions League, another game on TV tonight is Partick Thistle v Queen's Park, Premiership play-off QF 1st leg. Available on BBC Scotland (on iPlayer, BBC Sport etc), ko 7:45. I am hoping Thistle progress after being impressed with their style of play when I went to see them on Friday.
You can also watch the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup Final tonight, Marlow v Bracknell Town, ko 7:45 at Ascot, streamed on the "Live Sport Now" channel - https://youtube.com/@livesportnow2023
Notts seem to be making a meal of getting promotion...I hope their efforts in the semis do not do for them in the final. (As was the case with us I thought...!)
Got my ticket for Oxford City, You can only get a ticket online for Brackley if you have bought two previous match tickets this season, otherwise you have to visit the club.
Honestly, I don't even know. But the term has because so ubiquitous, and synonymous with any small team using analytics to punch above their weight, that even from a lexicon perspective he has had quite a reach!
I think that's the proper usage - it's just that a lot of people in the media use it to describe clubs who make ever-increasing profits on player sales (e.g. Brentford), when really it's about creating a team greater than the sum of its parts (any examples spring to mind...?).
Yup he died in the boozer there. I believe they had to take a wall down to get him out (or something). I'm assuming by modern standards, he would be considered only slightly overweight as he waddled through the cake section of Tesco.

Playing players in the correct positions. Having a proper forward helps too. Give ourselves a chance but city at home next on Sunday.
Another bonkers game at Forest
Or "What football would be like without any defending night" as it should be subtitled.
Now 4-2 to Forest
That is 20 goals in 3 games in the Premier League today - totally mad
Just as well MOTD have a show to tonight then ...
Southampton get a penalty & its 4-3 & well into added on time

That tifo at the Bernabéu must be blocking some people’s view.

The incessant mispronunciation of Benzema is making me want to throw a brick through my screen
Is this ref a martial arts fan?
Yep everyone knows the last 4 letters are silent.
A very interesting look at time-wasting: https://theanalyst.com/eu/2023/05/guide-to-premier-league-time-wasting/
Excellent article. If only football was governed by authorities who had the power to make rule changes to improve the game. But alas.
Classy response to stupid fans

I do wonder if Billy Beane is going to be looked back on as one of the most influential figures in sports history.
Is it actual Moneyball, though? Because people who clearly haven't read the book misuse the term all the time in football.
(not you @Shev)

Fair play https://twitter.com/henrywinter/status/1656684083517194240
Fair play indeed. Stamford is a very nice town... (Also the site of the grave of Daniel Lambert.)
The fattest man in England? Local football club nicknamed 'the Daniels' after him, I believe.

Leics Uni Students Union bar used to be called the "Lambert Bar" in his honour - until it was re-named the Mandela Bar.
Looking forward to the playoffs. Interesting games at London Road tonight and the Toughshit tomorrow
Wednesday have truly fucked this season up, from a great position as well
Has anyone checked on Alan Swann?
