Mike Williamson’s Gateshead are off the Wembley in the FA Vase final. They’ll be hoping to survive relegation to make it a double celebration this season.
Anis Mehmeti is currently the target for some Bristol City fans on Twitter. “Not good enough for City”, “League One at best”, “no end product”, “looks flashy but offers nothing”…
Expecting to see Rendell on Wednesday playing for league leading Southern Lg Div 1 Totton. Totton getting four figure gates at step 8 - amazing UK's love of football.
Nicely worded article and almost word for word what he told those in the Vere Suite the other week.
A brutal way to find out your football career is over. Who knows what might have happened had he been able to play out this season in full for us. But then sometimes you do walk into the doctor's a well man/woman and get devastating news that changes your whole future - it's doesn't just happen to footballers.
Spot on. I am not sure what they are expecting - a Maradona dribble past the whole opposing team every week? Someone has already posted some Bristol City highlights on YouTube and it sure looks like he is playing well! Obviously selective, but still.
Anis ranked 36th in FourFourTwo's annual EFL top 50, which is based entirely on opposition fan nominations (he's obvs down as a Bristol City player, but I imagine all his votes from L1 oppo fans!). David Wheeler came out best for us.
That begs an interesting question - who would we rank as the best players in L1 based on how they have played against us? Aside from Alfie May at number one, obviously.
I got asked for my top 5 and think I went - based on what I could see overall, not necessarily against us - Cooper (Plymouth), Cashin (Derby), Collins (Bristol Rovers), Bannan (Sheff Wed) and Whittaker (Plymouth).
He made 14 appearances for us in 2006-07, on loan from Villa and I remember him as an exceedingly fine left back, in particular his performance against Chelsea at home stands out. His career was disrupted by injury and he is now a Physiotherapist.
At the time I'm sure the general feeling was that he was one of those higher level loanees we had no chance of keeping as he was destined for bigger things.
The Stephen O'Halloran performance against Chelsea was one of those standout games for me that willmlive long into my old age. Remember seeing him in the car park after the game and basically indicated that the Chelsea man he was marking was still in his pocket! 😂
And we were so spoilt to have such a run a mere 6 years after the other semi final run!
I still wonder how that Chelsea away game might have panned out if the Doc hadn't played such a horrific ball across his own area, letting Shevchenko cruise in to score.
Betsy giving one of the best displays from a Wanderer, giving Cole a torrid time. Last game for us first time round, and what a last game!
First time I ever felt we were not ‘little Wycombe’ at Stamford Bridge bloke behind me screaming “who’s picking up Shevchenko!” like it’s the most normal thing ever.

It's the mentioning of it that often secures more, hence 5 immediately appearing on that post!
It can only be to stop him kissing people and riding on their backs, and other such nonsense.

Can you reply, generally agree, tell em he was learning but not quite there yet and we'll need him back on loan next season
Oh, and perhaps throw in something about his 29 appearances in the Championship when he was only 20.

Anis Mehmeti is already Destroying Championship Defences... - YouTube
Ah, the memories.
Thanks for posting that, @Shev. We were really spoilt when Anis, Sam and Garath were terrorising League 1 defences.

Good luck to him. I remember thinking that he wasn't much cop but I'll take your word for it @Steve_Peart
Wasn't much cop?
At the time I'm sure the general feeling was that he was one of those higher level loanees we had no chance of keeping as he was destined for bigger things.
Your word is as good as @Steve_Peart 's @Malone I don't want no trouble.

You better believe it. Me and Pert Steve run things.
That league cup run was truly epic.

Highlights are here if anyone can bare reliving them. Disastrous pass from the Doc at 14:50 mark.
Plus a rather depressed Wycombe fan at 21:30 stuck amongst a sea of people who seem happy to be seen on tv!
Ah. That would explain a lot of things…
Quite something to see Shevchenko, Drogba, Ballack and Lampard celebrating scoring against Wycombe
@glasshalfempty?

I removed every stitch and it was still a difficult watch.
Josh Umerah scores his 15th goal of the season for Hartlepool who lead 4-1 at Grimsby.
Anis scores his first goal for Bristol City,
Looks like the winner, no less!
Anthony Stewart was subbed off after 55 minutes for Milton Keynes yesterday. Sullay Kaikai hasn’t featured since his recent international duty.
