Noel Ashford was a tough one to take when I was a kid.
Like Mehmeti, he was a player I looked forward to watching each week, just to see what piece of magic he'd produce. Rare to have players like that at Wycombe.
A huge shame to see Mehmeti leave but overall it has to be seen as a huge success for the development squad. If we're going to compete above our station (i.e in the top half of League 1 or above) then we'll need to be making net gains on player sales to subsidise our relatively low crowds.
Demonstrating we can be a platform to bigger and better things should also be a big plus when it comes to recruiting the next gem.
Nice that his final game for the club ended with a goal and an assist too.
I'm sure he'll do fantastically well. And if not there's always the well-trodden path back to AP on loan!
I was taken to games in 76, but can't remember to much. I remember not being able to see over the white wall surrounding the pitch at Tooting about that time. I remember liking Derek Harris running style about that time.

Here’s one for the golden oldies:
Keith Searle to Enfield 1975
Well if Stewart goes to MK I’m going to go and be sick. Along with Blooms to Col U that would leave… I don’t know…. Scowen to the Plucky Non Leaguers?
Morgan
Howard Kennedy's retirement, then change of mind, and then moves to Slough Town, was a bitter pill to swallow.

Chas, just out of curiosity, when was your first Wycombe game?

I always imagined you emerging fully formed at the Gasworks End in the late 60s.
Keith Searle was my first realisation that heroes don't stay forever... (or was it when “Big” John Delaney went to Bournemouth...?)

I thought it was a lovely parting message indeed, and I expect to see him back as a guest of honour much like Luke O'Nien.
just not on the same day...
Touche!
Noel Ashford, leaving for Barnet at the start of the 87/88 season when just back into the conference in no small part due to his brilliance.
compounded a few weeks later when he returned with his new team and they thrashed us seven nil.
at the end of that night, I despaired, but our lack of ambition was going to forever, condemn us to the Isthmian league or thereabouts
six years later, we were a football league side, so that goes to show what I know
100ml limit will soon be a thing of the past brother
Never was a player loved as much as Noel Ashford was at Loakes Park.
But then he broke our hearts, and 35 years later, it is still scarred.
He gave us goals and scintillating performances.
We gave him total love and adulation.
He fucked off.
Ironically, one of our own is keeping Mickey Bell's son out of the Bristol City team most weeks
There have been way, way better players leaving than Mickey Bell over the years, probably pushing triple figures in the 20 odd years.
But him being stolen off us for next to nothing mid 90s absolutely killed a huge amount of joy that pre season.
Would I boo Mickey Bell’s son? I think I would.
I think that's perfectly reasonable. I'd just boo Bristol City. Robin by name, robbin' by nature.
Slightly off topic but I was a bit upset when Madge departed in Neighbours.
I've never fully got over that myself. Whenever I catch myself getting sad about it, I put this on..

MON was the hardest to get over in my 33 years of supporting WWFC.
100% spot on.
I also think the younger you are the more departures hurt as well, as you realise the way of the world a bit more too.
Seems to be almost the opposite for me, one or two of the more recent departures have been pretty hard to take.
Anthony Stewart stands out for me. Even worse now he's where he is. But I'd never hold it against him.
Anis, Luke O9, Sergio, Scotty K.
Going way back, like others on here, Noel Ashford really hurt.
Not forgetting the gaffers, Gareth and Martin. Plus Matty B going to Colchester.
Stocko too, especially in light of Bishop-gate.
I was always happy to have Stewart on the pitch, but never quite bought into him as much as some do.
Williamson felt a much bigger blow in terms of centre backs. Pierre I was really disappointed to see go.
Tyson of course. Easter and Beavon were really horrible exits.
Williamson was indeed a big loss. And Scott McGleish leaving under a cloud. Who didn't get booed on HIS return despite scoring against us!
